The Liberty Sword was added as a promotional item to celebrate Independence Day of 2016. It could be claimed as a promotional item along with either an Empire Firework or an Independence Day Firework (both in their 2016 editions). This weapon is unique not only in its powerful enchantments, but also in the fact that if the sword is held in either the main hand or off-hand in-game, the player's attack speed will increase by 20%. This bonus is reflected in several lines of lore attached to the sword (though not all are directly relevant; some are simply there due to Mojang's mechanics at this time).
