The problems of Krysyy, Aikar and how EMC is run.

  1. This is not illegal. LMAO. Free speech protects you against GOVERNMENT censorship. Private entities (like companies and even Minecraft servers) can censor whatever they want.
  2. Yes, the First Amendment applies online, just as it does in regular written, personal, religious, and political discourse.

  3. So? The government isn't censoring anything here.
  4. What was the point of this thread again? I think we're getting carried away here.
  5. it's not just goverment censorship they pretty much are being told that you cannot respond to this or we demote you

  6. I've forgotten, but I know it didn't include fighting each other...
  7. Note for reference that this thread was requested to be locked temporarily to allow the OP to respond without too many community posts. This request has been denied as this post is more than just the OP and staff feel it's necessary to allow it to continue, even in the OP's absence.
  8. yes.

  9. Krysyy, I am just curious what is the reason you will not let staff give their input on this situation. I am not asking for either side as I am neutral.

  10. Sounds reasonable. But so far I'm not sure if this thread could accomplish that goal, because of how it was started. How can a constructive discussion be initiated by so aggressive a post?
Maybe. But thinking EMC needs some changes is very different from standing behind Burki in this thread.
Um, no. It doesn't work like that. On any 'public' space you manage, whether online or in real life, you get to decide who gets what permissions. I'm no American myself so I'm not sure how to make this clear to you, but you misunderstand freedom of speech.
  11. Although I am in agreeance with some pointers above, some of them are more worrying than constructive.

There are so many solid points here but at the same time, it feels like even though it's good to let the boiling pot vent some steam, only when deaf ears and blind eyes can't get a good sense of direction anymore; I for one don't know where I stand on this with the lingering community. I cannot join you all in pointing fingers at Krysyy. I don't know her, she doesn't know me. Not one single individual is at fault for how we got here. Have you all forgotten? How many people walked out on us through the years? Influential players from all over, our original founder, Aikar's wife? the list could go on and on. Whether it's boredom or the excuse of time, the bottom line was, we lost important people along the way. And it won't be the same ever.

Yes, I agree the community has come up short, and we're shot down in a pit waiting for the next release. I realize and can take into consideration that STAFF is, in fact, human too. I wish we had a progress bar or something, anything to just show us some uplifting hope that the update is coming. I don't need fancy events or promotional items, I just want to know how long my friends and I have before we can't enjoy it anymore. That's it, so some encouragement or hope would help indeed. I even wondered, what if we cut back on some customizations to account for a quicker release. It seems to me people want both, but the latest release seems to take the cake.

Money? Yeah, I think that's becoming a big deal. I love the servers we have, but tbh, we're too small for how much space we have cornered ourselves in. I sure hope there is a compromise in the future for this arising issue. I don't know what all the costs are tallied up, but it sure feels like we're spending more than we're making back. Wasn't always like that. Some of it can't be recovered, some of it can. And the clock is ticking down, sooner or later, it will cave in on itself. Keep it going, make the change. I hope when you get a supporter, you're doing it not to show that you donated, but to show that your dream is still alive. It's only dead when either you give up on it, or the ignorance of "higher authority people" shut you out from it.

If you guys really want to keep the wheels turning then, that is fifty percent us, and fifty percent theirs. The staff needs players to fill up the servers, grow and prosper. We need the staff to bridge together constructive friendships, enforce the rules, and ultimately to serve and protect. If the community believes intervention is the best route then so be it. The player base will always be the root of any successful game. We know that. Maybe they've overlooked it. While I admit to thoughts of "What am I putting my money into", I want to salvage this great place. I think it can still be what it once was again, even with fewer players. I want to keep it alive. It's breaking me that it's falling apart like this. Keep it alive anybody? Somebody? If the server falls - will we still have a website? Will we start another gaming group? What will become of us?

I, together with some other staff members, have been in a discord call for about an hour "looking for another EMC, but without Kryssy." We also discussed setting up our own server.

You see this really caught my eye. In one way, I see this as an Alert! A call for change is imminent! We need to stick together. Don't quit on each other. History will end up to repeat itself. Another person might see this and think it needs to be deleted out of the post. "Stop them! They're trying to advertise for a chip off the old block". Honestly, though Jelle, I hope it doesn't come to that. The last of my two closest friends and I work on Smp8 often, building this incredible place that would be lost forever. Now, all I'm in it for is hanging out with the only two people who didn't give up on me. I owe them, and I'm grateful to them.

One or way another, I believe change is very much a healthy occurrence in life. It binds us, defines us, allows for the new. If a change in power is requested by the community, it should be heard. I don't think one person is to blame. I'm just at a loss for words at this point. Frankly, the only thing that has stung me since I joined was the loss of IcecreamCow. We lost a great many people because of the decision. I can only wonder if it was worth it to those that made the judgment call. It will always hold me in question.

    TL;DR
So for clarity, I stay because of the people. My friends. The gameplay still hasn't grown stale for me in 6 years of EMC and 8 years of Minecraft in total. I love it you know. It's nice I can still find someone that does too. If I had a mountain in the sky, Empire Minecraft would be the top of it.
  12. Tbh I’m kinda curious as to how often krysyy checks up on what people tell her cuz I feel like she ignores a lot of dms

  13. Really, please, be a bit more constructive everyone. We're not here to decite who's the scapegoat of the problems or anything. Burki adressed some concerns regarding the way EMC is currently lead, some of which might be valid. Let's try to discuss that, and talk about stuff that is actually meaningfull instead of shouting what is wrong.

I'm leaving this tread now. It has started to become a shouting room. It's a pitty it came to this so quickly, but this just isn't the way we should talk to eachother.
  14. I'm pretty sure I know just a tad bit more about law then you I mean my bachelors degree in pre-law might help

  15. It may not be against the law but it's just inherently wrong to tell someone yeah you have not made any huge mistakes or anything but you responded to a post we didn't like you are not demoted

  16. I do also wonder about this.
The most obvious reason for me never applying for staff is that I actually don't play Minecraft. However, there is a reason why I would never apply for staff anyway: I want to be able to say whatever seems appropriate, and I want to be able to participate in discussions.
There might be a good reason to not let staff participate in such meta-drama, but it does mean that we lose valuable input. In a thread such as this, I am eager to read a positive and in-perspective-putting reply by dear Moople. But now that she is a mod, she isn't allowed to respond anymore. :/

And in case you don't realise, this problem greatly skews the thread. There are roughly four groups of people who could reply to this thread:
    1. The management, being Aikar and Krysyy
    2. The rest of the staff team
    3. Ex staff
    4. Members who have never been a part of staff
The first group will obviously defend themselves, they have to. The second group isn't allowed to respond. The third group mostly consists of members who have either left, and as such won't see this thread, and members who got demoted for various reasons, and as such are likely to have some beef with staff, so to speak. And finally, the fourth group, which comprises most of us, doesn't know what the truth of the situation is, because the only things we can go off are things told by the first and third group, while it seems to me that the second group would be the most reliable source.

  17. I mean having 12 total staff may be a big problem

  18. I just want to leave my bit of experience with Krysyy here.

I do want to mention that many things she has said previously about Willies and Jelle were leaked, and were of bad taste. I have screenshots of her rant about Jelle as well as staff stories about her rants with regard to Willies. I believe this is ridiculous for a "Community Manager" to do when all she does is rant and rave to her staff and shutdown the community as if they were worthless.

I have not believed in her management of EMC for a while now, however I do understand life happens. With this being said, I personally believe if life is getting in the way constantly, perhaps one does not need another additional responsibility.

I believe Aikar did at one point in time truly care about EMC, but I feel as though with the large chunk of the lack of updates on EMC being Mojang's fault, he has somewhat given up-- at least from what it feels like to me.

I think ma boi Squiddy did the right thing by being transparent and I hope Krysyy/ staff don't get butt hurt and lock this thread, cause its a necessary community discussion.

    As for censorship-- lol.
  19. They wouldn't get demoted for it. They would just be told not to do so again and we'd have a discussion why.
    Demotions are for major issues.
