My mind raised the question recently: is it possible to cycle from one edge of the USA to the other? With so many desert areas, I can imagine that there are parts that are not connected via roads accessible on bike at all. Nov 21, 2020 at 6:08 AM

Yeah I think it is like TJ said. A lot of the deserts have roads and that’s it, they are just like plopped there in the middle of nowhere

        Interesting, thanks!
I thought that the roads in the desert might be too high speed for bikes to be allowed.

I stopped procrastinating and cleaned up my room. :D I also handed in lamps and batteries for recycling that had been piling up since I moved out. :P And I found my watch, that I lost two weeks ago! It was in my bin.

Being a farmer I don't let the winter get me down. It's a 3 - 4 month break from everyday outdoor tasks. Look at it this way, the shortest day of the year is a little over 30 days away. Spring is on its way!

Pff, it's been a while since activity was so low. I don't feel like starting a new thread now either, though, as I don't have thát much spare time, I just wish the threads we've got would be (a lot) more active. :P

Good point. I watch that at least twice a year and never grow tired of it. It is a great mood boosting movie. I actually enjoy Mr. Collins' role. Have you watched the 2005 version of it?

I have! I really liked that one as well. I'd have to watch it again to compare the two, but it seems an unfair comparison anyway, as for a 6 episode long series you can afford to spend a lot more time on certain things than in a feature film.

In any case the 2005 version has a stellar soundtrack, and I found the 1995 one fairly lacklustre in comparison. The main theme is good, but it plays too often, and the other themes are unmemorable.

The final exam for our theory of computation course was a Halloween edition, this year. For example, we had to prove that it is undecidable that a given TM will for no input write "Braaaaaains!" to the tape at any point.

I do keep a document with all of them (starting from when I started writing them myself, in July 2018; I used to get them from Roblox), it's up to 14 pages now!

A bit ironic that in the three days following this status update I have not been able to decide on anything to put in my signature. :P I've come across interesting stuff, for sure, but I want to make sure that I can make it applicable to people's daily lives in some way, and first and foremost that I interpret the passage correctly.

Two things that greatly upset me are people discrediting my integrity and collisions with people in function. Yesterday I had both, when the bus driver believed I had not paid for a ticket. I had, but due to COVID-19 regulations they aren't physical. I had to leave the bus.

@Soul I was also wondering. I heard from some people that there are in fact people lying about fare dodging, and that that makes some bus drivers very careful. In Italy, they apparently get so many rude fare dodgers that the ticket checkers tend to start by shouting when an issue arises, as they assume civil methods won't work.

Giving tutorials to Logic students has been very challenging and lots of fun! The course is much harder than when I took it myself two years ago, and there are no lectures this year. So there's a lot on my shoulders, but I can take it and that's an amazing feeling! :)

I got banned from my most frequented Discord server after someone swore at me, told me I should get myself checked out because I'm not normal, and accused me of being a child molester. Why did I get banned for that? I don't know. But I'm glad EMC's staff is not so toxic. :)

That sounds like a terrible thing to say. Don't think you should have been banned for what they said, but it's probably better you leave anyway. No reason to hangout with toxic people.

@lucky I agree! I was considering leaving the server after what happened, because staff did not seem to care, or even encouraged it... and then I got banned, for whatever reason, so I didn't have to decide anymore. :P

Today I learnt that in the USA, there is no distinction between university and college; they're the same thing. There's not much of vocational training either. After secondary, you don't go different paths but you go up to a different point. Thanks, Rhy and waffle!

I find it peculiar that it seems that in high school everyone has to do somewhat the same level of lessons. Here there is quite a clear difference between what people had to do, and I'm fairly sure that if you were to try everyone to do our highest level, most people wouldn't manage it.

Indeed, it is peculiar. Maybe the level of secondary education is just lower? Or they tailor education towards each student? That would be ideal, but seems infeasible. And sounds very un-American on top of it. :P

What makes my situation a lot worse is that I have been hearing my bloodflow for the past 100 hours. My left ear being completely stuffed after preparing to go to the general practitioner's but there being no space. And now I had to cancel the appointment I did have, of course.

Frankly, even if I knew I didn't have COVID-19 I might not want to get into public, as I might spread the common cold I probably have, and as such put other people into an awkward situation. Honestly, I'd be happy if it turned out that I _do_ have COVID-19, as in that case all the hoopla would seem a bit more useful. :P

I try to keep at it, but the subject wasn’t ever my best. Truly, as CD pointed out, if the point is understood, that is what matters most. Not how formal it is written.

Yes, but in this case it doesn't. I am left to guess whether 'the point' includes the person in question being depressed or not. In some cases it's obvious they are, in others it's obvious they are not, but in most it's left ambiguous to me.
