It's been a while since I posted my setup, and since I've made a few upgrades since then, might as well show off them. I've upgraded my GPU, mouse, and keyboard, got my old monitor on a VESA mount, and won a Pikachu plush from a claw machine. Thanks to the Ethereum mining boom, I was able to pawn off my RX480 for more than I payed originally, and I planned to buy a GTX 1070. Unfortunately, the Ethereum boom didn't just inflate the prices of the higher end RX GPUs, but also the GTX 1060 and 1070. So I bought a 980 Ti instead, which is basically a 1070. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. (please ignore the low quality photo and poor cable management) Next thing I need to do is upgrade than anemic CPU cooler so I can actually pull a decent overclock without risking the poor thing's lifespan. Then I'll probably find some aesthetic quibbles and throw money into that paper shredder. The keyboard I'm using is a Qisan Magicforce 68 with Gateron Blue switches. I love the 65% layout, although I imagine it would be a bit frustrating if I had to use function keys often. I love the tactility of the Gateron Blues (I am not a fan of linear switches), but I think going with Browns would have been smarter, clicky switches sound lovely to me, but not to anybody else. The mouse is a Corsair M65, and it's heavy and sturdy enough that I could probably use it as a bludgeon. I'm thinking of replacing the mouse mat with a Kill la Kill themed one I saw recently. Not sure.
I was looking at the Cryorig H7 instead of the Hyper 212 EVO everyone loves and hates at the same time. Im not yet sure on whether im getting a 1080ti or a 1080, I don't think im going to custom loop watercool for my first build, but ill try and watercool my GPU and CPU. I've got most of my components so far, i7-6800k is my cpu and I was thinking of overclocking to 4.2Ghz. Does watercooling your GPU really worth it? Overclocking my GPU didnt cross my mind till now. The GPU I was going to get comes with a great waterblock as an option.
I'd agree with you, CRYORIG H7 is nice, but it won't fit on LGA2011-V3. I believe the new, flashy H7 quad lumi does though. Same performance, just lit up. But the thing about both is that there is little headroom for overclocking ; 140W TDP. A Broadwell-E CPU has 140W TDP even though the actual drawn is like 100W on the 6-core models, but still you'll be running pretty close if you don't get over. A nice 240mm AIO is gonna be expensive ($100) but will give plenty of breathing room. Be Quiet! Silent Loop, Corsair's are all good, Deepcool Captain 240EX, NZX T Kraken X52 are all quite nice. Watercooling is only really worthwhile if you do overclock, and most GPU overclocks on stuff from the factory (even partner company cards) don't get much farther in terms of performance. Again I believe your best bet is a good quality card, something like MSI Gaming X, ASUS Strix, EVGA FTW3 (1080Ti) or ACX 3.0 (1080) I should also note OCing GPUs was a little learning curve for me, dunno how you'll fare. You should be able to get a decent bump in clocks and likewise a little performance boost, but these usually come tuned with factory OC's. I should also note 1080Ti is pretty hot because of the power draw so don't expect to get far... not like it'll matter because it's so beastly
What particular versions were you looking at? If you're getting a 1080 or 1080 Ti, I would expect that you should be able to get a reasonable overclock on air alone. Watercooling a GPU would be for lower temps, less noise, and aesthetics rather than the performance increase over air cooling. That isn't to say that you won't see an improvement, it's just that you shouldn't necessarily look at the extra investment primarily being a performance boost.
It's been a very long time since I last checked but I think it was called the amp extreme. My PSU will be able to handle this stuff as well, the one I bought was an EVGA 850w G3 80+ gold.
So I'm currently on placement in a Hospital in Swansea, but here is the last desk I inhabited (During exam season) I'll be moving to a new place in September, but this desk had so much space to spread out, and an awesome pinboard too :3 Whilst I may not have an OP computer, as long as I have some way to play on EMC I'll survive
I have been wanting to post on here for a while, but waited until I upgraded my setup to post. This is the original setup which I have had for a very long time. It consists of an Acer tower with 4 gb of ram, 3 core processor, and an integrated graphics card. My main monitor is 17" and 720p. I can barely get 25 fps even with optifine unless i'm in an empty void world..., and the laptop is eve worse. I mostly use it to listen to music or watch youtube. Well I said that an upgrade was need, so this is my new setup: (I took the pic at midnight so the lighting isn't very good) I now have a new pc with a duel monitor setup. The one to the right is the one in my old setup and now my second monitor. The main one is 28" and has a 2160p resolution. The new pc has an i5 cpu and a 1070 gpu. I can finally play MC at 60 fps!!!! I should also note that I have a g500s gaming mouse and a generic acer keyboard. It preforms just as well as any "gaming" keyboards do so im happy with it. On top of the desk I've got speakers from the early 2000's that have horrible quality, an a dictionary so I can read when i'm bored
Probably because other people haven't got access to those pictures. At least we don't get people linking a picture from their hard drive anymore...
My new setup ft. really cool flower mug This has been in the works since March when Bara got me into the idea NZXT S340 elite case Ryzen 5 1600 16GB RAM 1050 Ti GPU (don't use it for games besides MC) LG 34UMP68 34" Samsung 27" can't remember model number Can't remember exact model but PC MATE mother board Can't remember PSU Yeelight bulb and LED strip Desk is from Fantastic Furniture super a mart?. It has a shelf thingy too but I put that somewhere else Logitech G810 KB Logitech MX-something mouse Google home The cable wasn't long enough so I had to run it in front... So far no issues with airflow. Fortunately, I barely see this view so I cheaped out with fans too also #shameless bump
