The problems of Krysyy, Aikar and how EMC is run.

  1. That's doable. I'll personally shift some of my events to this.

  2. I mean the average middle school student could probably go off on a rant on why you're wrong so I'm not going to myself. However, I am going to say that I cringed so hard I fell out of my chair when I read your posts

  3. I've been only here to talk to old friends on this server, some are new via discord and such but...

With my colorful history with this server, it may be better of being quiet but I shouldn't be discounted for what I say.

This will be my only time I respond to this Thread

I've had my doubts with upper staff before and that uncertainty has still stuck with me since the UHC days (2016ish). I talked to my friends of my conserns and the future of the server and I can tell you, it's a lot about the information presented via discord calls and here in this thread has put my suspicions to truths. I don't want to get into the nitty and gritty of what I said/talked about because most of these players in this thread had similar issues and already posted, discounting some who are trying to throw more fuel into the fire.

So where does this leave me with this thread, I am 100% not surprised a thread like this hasn't shown up earlier. I hope we can actually start moving forward with updates and find solutions that are community based which I've complained before while making the auction rules.

As for staff things, I can't put words of how disgusting it is to see these stories/threads pop up. I expect you Krysyy to be open minded on the issue and have a full resolution when the flame war subsides.

    Thanks for reading.

  4. Intersting, the views of all the people. My takes on most topics are as follows:

I agree with Carbonyx that I have never had positive nor negative experiences with admins. It has been totally professional and I respect that.

I understand how players may be upset that events don't always happen on schedule, or some other small thing; I agree it's annoying.

It is, however, not annoying enough to demand reform or a new Community Manager. EMC is run by a company, Starlis, and as a company it is in their best interest to cater to the people. Also, as a private company, Starlis is free to hire whomever they please to be a Community Manager. Not to mention, reform typically has 3 stages: reform, radical reform, and finally people realize the radical reform has gone too far, so it reverts to the original system as seen in 16th and 17th century Europe's absolutist monarchs (>:) haha AP euro) .

One idea is possibly rename Community Manager to Staff Manager?

Oh my goodness this topic makes me cringe, but private sector censorship is perfectly legal. It is not at all against the law as seen in Tinker v. Des Moines School District. Anyway, talking about how the SS decision to request staff to not respond to this post because "they'll expose you" is a tad childish, eh?

Good point and I agree. As a Community manager, Krysyy should have followed through, or asked a build team member to make a design she can implement. +1 on this.

Going to assume this post was made with at least the smallest amount of bias due to your demotion Burki.

This is excellent. This is amazing. This is a summary of what the people want. Many people also want Krysyy and Aikar to appear in game more frequently, however, as managers I believe they should lurk.
As you can possibly see, I am trying to view this matter through an unbiased, and provide support or a rebuttal to certain points. Thanks :)
  5. Uk time

Cause every event it at 12am or 1am in the morning

  6. What time UK time? What time in EMC preferred?
  7. Afternoon bst like between 13-17 uk time

So right now since we have swiched to gmt

So 9am - 1pm? Emc time. These are rough times
  8. Honestly I just want 1.13 so I can play on EMC and be able to join in with all the angry people in this thread. Right now I have no reason to and I feel like an empty shell of my former self because I always had something to say in drama threads, while this time Iā€™m just enjoying the show.

  11. Also i woukd like to apologise for what i have said earlier today i think we are all a bit angry and where looking for someone to blame

I still think we need change but not anyone needing to resign.

At the verry least i would verry much enjoy updates where we are on updating and mabey some of the forgot things could be done/restarted

I will post the results of my jotfourm thing in a post later on

Just for people who are interested

  12. Weekends would be amazing!
  13. Honestly, I think the thread has opened up a chance for disgruntled members to vent and has given ALL staff the chance to see what everyone is feeling. Agree or not I think this is a good step toward fixing things that are going wrong and helping the community in a good way. I know when I am online I always greet new players and if I am on smp7 I have a full shulker gift box I give to new players. The events are lacking though.
  14. I agree with some of what you said. But we cannot deny the fact that the development team is, nearly non-existent(?).

Chickeneer cannot update the entire server by himself, especially since he has personal life affairs to tend to. EMC needs more than 1 developer, otherwise the server will die on 1.12.2...
  15. Hoo boy. I feel like I've been here before. Going to try to post my opinions here without igniting some kind of dumpster fire, like I have accidentally done before. I have only skimmed most of this thread because I am pretty busy preparing for an very important interview at a software company, so I apologize if I repeat something or missed something.

    On the topic of burki:
I don't know what behind the scenes action has gone on exactly that has lead to the burki being demoted/quitting, but I do know that I thought burki was one of the best staff we had. When I made my staff activity thread, he was the #2 spot in activity. I always see him active, always being nice, and basically the ideal staff member in my mind. I hope whatever reason was a good one. I'm sad to see you go, burki. I hope we can come to a resolution in this thread that helps you reconsider leaving.

    On the topic of Krysyy:
Y'all are forgetting that Krysyy has the most difficult job of any staff member. She's both the management and the laborer here. She has to spend her time doing community management AND doing the implementation of it (hosting events, etc). However, I do think that having an additional rank that's below her but fulfills some of the implementation like hosting events would be really helpful both to help distribute the workload as well as create a stronger presence from the staff team.
Yes, krysyy has made mistakes, and I've personally spent time waiting for them, like at art class, but I'm not going to crucify her for it. Everybody makes mistakes, even big ones, and regularly. Your bosses will, your parents will, and your teachers will. I've had college professors forget to bring our midterms back to us for weeks after grading them.
Oh, and I don't think it should be a big deal if she talks about personal stuff with the staff. I don't see why it should be an issue unless its getting in the way of progress or other stuff. After all, krysyy's personal life has always been a big interest of the server, we've seen her married and unmarried, and through the thick and thin. Staff and non-staff alike have grown attached to our community manager and I know I speak for many when I say we like to see that kind of stuff from her.

This sounds kind of like a foot-licking via thread post, but a lot of you are being pretty hard on her throughout this thread and I want to make sure she knows that we do support her. I don't know what you guys would think would come from replacing her, but I guarantee it's not going to be a positive change. I think y'all underestimate how much she does behind the scenes, or even right in front of you. Having an untrained new person would probably result in a substantial drop in quality and quantity of many aspects of the server.

On the topic of Aikar and the devs:
Already spend a lot of time on this one on other threads but I have some new points here as well.
Make EMC's code public. Every last bit of it. Let us see the github that houses the whole back end, as well as the issues on that. Some of it is already available, Does that open us up to vulnerabilities? I hope not, because concealment is not security, and I'm sure the dev team knows that. Does that mean other servers could copy us? Who cares? We are struggling as a server.
Then, we can make our own clones, update pieces, and then submit pull requests. I'm sure that the devs already use a similar system, with the master and dev branch, if you allow us to see it and see what issues need fixing, others can contribute. Do you have to review our code before accepting the pull requests? Yes, but you already are, right? This isn't a revolutionary development structure. The aikar reviews the devs' code, and the devs review aikar's code. Senior watches junior and junior watches senior. Now, you will just have far more juniors to look over, but you will also receive far more viable updates. Spigot has been on 1.14, paper has been on 1.14, and now the portion of EMC that is public is also on 1.14 thanks to willies. So whatever holdup is on the parts of the server we cant see, we should be seeing and able to help.

I think my most important point here though is that the staff need to bring in more hands. Especially as more staff go inactive or go the way of burki, it feels more and more like too few people at the top have too much on their plate. Losing burki is a huge loss for the server IMO, I don't know if there's any way to undo that loss, but I hope that we find a way to compensate.
  16. Love it. No legal NDAs will be required (very minimal if any) and any programmer can contribute where need be. There are a lot of EMC players who are skilled with programming, but their hands are tied as they cannot do anything to expedite the updating of the entire EMC infrastructure. Especially if they do not have access to the code.

  17. As much as I LOVE this idea and would solve many of our delays of 1.14.4. The dangling carrot of Dragon Tombs (and Empires) been dangling over our noses for a long time. I mean a LONG time. To fully expose the code that may or may not of been touched for 3+ years could loose more faith in the server that it has now especially with the veteran players.

I would like to see what progress has been made but in all honesty that won't happen with Aikar holding it.
Tigerstar, FadedMartian and Carbonyx like this.
  18. To summarize what I was told by chicken today: we wish we could, but at this point we can't. There are very likely some major holes that could be exploited to a drastic degree. We wish we had it formatted differently to expose only certain parts for players to help with, but it doesn't work that way.
    607 and FadedMartian like this.
  19. "Find all threads by [player]" has been broken for way longer than it should have been, and I've heard nothing about getting it fixed.

[EDIT] As for making the code public, although it would be nice, there is no doubt in my mind that it would be exploited. For example, the survival update v2 mobs: If we know exactly how they spawn, we can make farms that abuse this knowledge, and that just makes it less fun for everyone.
  20. That's a bigger decision than it may seem, and would be something that would take Aikar a long time to setup if he even were to consider it.

However, something that it made me think of:

You mention that a lot of the fixes for Mojang's code goes into PaperMC and that there are lots of fixes to be made there still for EMC to operate properly.

Seeing as PaperMC is open source, would it be safe to say that if more development was done on PaperMC, that EMC could then update sooner?

What I'm suggesting is that players who want to contribute to EMC's update process can support PaperMC development to achieve that.

So another question then, is: If players wanted to start contributing to PaperMC, what kinds of things should they be looking to do that would help EMC to update sooner?

So, Extendingskys - contributing to PaperMC would essentially be exactly what you're saying you want to do. Seeing as Aikar is a lead developer on that team, he would be able to review and merge your changes into PaperMC and when EMC were to update to 1.14, it would be using that version of PaperMC as its base.

Just a thought I had and wanted to share :)
