The problems of Krysyy, Aikar and how EMC is run.

  1. Something else happened around that time in the background (not in my personal life before anyone suspects) that affected the way that I communicate with the players. A very large backstab is all we'll say because I choose not to provide details. To be completely honest, it's made me scared to show my human side to the community at all because it was used against me outright. I stopped talking in discord, and became hesitant to make any large changes that might result in the backlash of the auction craze as well, because that was blown way out of proportion frankly. In summary, I allowed the actions of a few members to change my perception of the entire community and it was a wrong thing to do. I have recently stepped over that obstacle, though a little part of me is still hesitant to allow myself fully back to where I was because of the level of burn I took. Where I have remained active is my statuses. I agree that a more official post on my activity would be appropriate, but I didn't want to detract from EMC for updates on my silly minor health things. As mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, the newsletter was mostly stopped because the posting of it was detracting from the value of the individual threads since it was more of a reposting of links and not new content. Players would say 'congrats to all' instead of taking the time to give individual congrats to new team members, etc. Looking into a re-formatting to make it more update-minded instead.

When I stress that I'm human, it's not an excuse. It's just a reminder. My 'excuse' in this matter if you want one is quite frankly the problems that are being directed towards me are not mine alone. You think I'm the only one here? I'm not. Some senior staff could do more. Some moderators could do more. Some devs could do more. Some team members could do more. We all could do more. We all could improve. That's the real and honest truth.
  2. Thank you for saying this. It really has cleared up a lot. I've been backstabbed by people here aswell, although I don't know how it compares to what happened to you since I don't know what happened to you. I'll just trust that it was sufficiently bad.
The community has gotten a little complacent, myself included. I did specifically say though that not all the problems were your fault. Or at least I believe I did. I cut a big chunk out of that post and might have accidentally cut that too.
I'm sorry for saying it was an excuse. It just sounded that way to me. I'm glad you responded though. This is how we will move forward.

  3. Couldn't agree more with this. We have it very good here. If people tried this stuff on other servers, they'd likely just be tossed aside without a thought. For the most part, the overall maturity level of those on EMC is FAR greater then pretty much any other server I've tried. We're allowed to AFK here.. something most servers don't allow. Maybe little things but it all adds up. I've not found another server that bundles all these things together like EMC does. Even I can forget how good it is here until you try other places and see it's not even close.
  4. Haha yeah. I was too far in for lazy me to (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ it:p
  5. Chicken also answered this but I wanted to add an additional clarification; EMC has most of it's code hidden to try to protect against people finding ways to exploit it. Willies updated the portion of it which is publicly visible, which is sort of the foundation for the rest of it. I'm guessing its about 10%, however it's the most important 10% since it's the bottom.

Im very glad to see that this thread has gotten more on a positive and constructive track by this morning, it was quite the fiesta yesterday afternoon.
  6. What wrong with Mexican parties? I love parties! haha~
  7. You may not like what you read here but I used to be a hot head and fly off the handle - over the years this took a toll on my health, so I have learnt to put things aside an approach them in a more diplomatic way, using reason and such.

That being said, I get it Burki..., I have been staff in the past but left because it was not for me, I was not pushed and the offer was and I still think is there for me to return. When I was staff I was also pulled up over things by Krysyy and although it was text speak it definitely came across sharp. That does not mean that Krysyy meant it in that way or that it was not needed, we are all on a journey through life and we get bombarded by all sorts of things which have an affect on us. Such as issues from rl and how we speak to each other, the tone of what we say then has an affect on the recipient.

I have also had short sharp replies from Aikar in DMs in response to a question, not nice being on this end of the conversation, but again not necessarily meant in the way it came across. As I stated I get it, however we started with 2 CMs, Maxarius left [I will not speculate on why] but we where left with one CM, who has been doing this job for a long time and been loyal to the server and has been through a lot in her personal life over the past year or so. You do have to make some allowance here.

As for the MC update I feel your pain and I get the impression that Aikar has lost interest but again I don't know for sure, it would be nice for him to stick his head above the parapet once in a while just to let us know what his plans are. As for leaving and going to another server, all the best on that one. I have never found another server as good as EMC, I used to complain because the community size dropped to 250 on average a day, I think that's down to around 50 now. This was a big investment for Aikar but he may have lost heart.

I would also say this, if you have an issue with anyone always try and resolve this in private, take a moment to think about and how you want to respond, trying to create drama is never good. EMC has seen enough drama in its life, If you don't like Krysyy, Aikar or anyone else that's ok, your not expected to like everyone you meet irl or virtual.

What I dislike about this thread the most is the additional backlash Krysyy has gotten here, creating vote and survey pages to get her removed is equal to bully tactics.

P.S it will never happen, Krysyy will leave when she or Aikar chose not the community
  8. Big kudos to Burki for saying things that need to be said. It's about time more people started standing up for themselves and others around here rather than standing by idly watching the staff and sycophants pretend they can keep this community together.

If anything says where the support in this thread really leans just look at the amount of user likes Burki's intial post received versus Krysyy's initial. The bandwagon is missing some wheels.
  9. I just wanna say as someone who has been here on and off since April of 2012 (wow it's been 7.5 years already), this ain't the first time I've seen posts/threads/situations like this.

    I think there's a meme for this?

  12. I read your post after making my first reply to this thread, and totally agree with what you have said here.

That brings back nightmares of 1.3 and vanishing items when using portals, although frustrating, this is the right decision.

Thank you for the update Aikar, Really appreciated.

I knew there where issues but I thought they could be overcome but clearly they are worse than I though.

Mojang/Microsoft not so interested in Java-MC as most sales are for games machines such as X-Box

Dev's need to get together and rewrite Java-MC and remove the paperclips and glue, now lets see, how many millions of lines of code is that and would they even get permission

You should be a writer, your an artist with words, I particularly liked this ^ little snippet.

  15. 8 years with this community and it's beyond a shadow of a doubt that EMC is on its last legs. The forum is so inactive that in the recent posts column you'll see posts from yesterdays at around 3 in the afternoon. This place is basically dead. I can tell you that what EMC was and what it is now are two completely different things. Change is good but nothing is changing. I acknowledge people are human, make mistakes, have real life issues and commitments, etc. But you can only make excuses to a point, and that point passed long ago. I don't even know why I have this as the first tab in my browser anymore. Stop telling us to give you time and tell us to work with you. We have been waiting for a few years for the complete Empires update. And Dragon Tombs is just that. A tomb. I have given you so many chances to fix yourself and the server but it boils down to this:

You can't expect players to change the server when you don't change anything yourselves. And when people do make an effort to change, I HIGHLY advise you don't force them out/push them away. Every time something like this has been broached before it is shut down almost immediately. I can't believe this thread is still open to be honest.

Work with, not against, your player base.

(PS, I am literally the oldest active member (in game, joined the forums almost 2 months after I started.) I have seen every mod, SS, leader, even owner change.)
  16. Do you have another alt that you play on? /p says you haven’t been on in over 8 months. I’d hardly call that active. Also, EMC gets usually around 50 players across the servers at any given time. That’s not exactly “last legs”, but I’ll admit it’s nothing compared to what we used to have. Also you make very good points about dragon tombs and whatnot, the rate at which we get new content is really low and while I’m glad to hear that 1.14 is coming not too far out, I hope that the devs have a long term plan to prevent holdups like this in the future. Because what happens if another update comes out that’s like 1.13? As it stands now we might as well just call it quits if that happens.

  17. Ok, I'll chip in as well.

It all boils down to that we need EMC 1.14 NOW!

The playerbase is dissipating. As people gets older they have new priorities in life and leave, that is always gonna happen. The big problem is that we have very few players joining the server as it's still at v1.12. This also makes older players quit as they want to play 1.14 since (nevermind the apparently bad coding) it's more fun to play 1.14. (I happen to agree)

So an eroding playerbase which in turn gives an eroding platform for recruiting new devs and mods. Which in turn makes the transition to 1.14 even slower.

It's now sad to logon and find 1-2 players milling about on each server when a year ago or so each server was filled with 10-20 players on the weekends.

The eroding playerbase is in itself a reason why EMC players are leaving. No banter on the chat. No players to go adventuring with on the SMP. Less posts on the forum and so on. I'm even guessing fewer players will increase the friction btwn those who are left which in turn might lead to rougher forum/chat climate.

About Krysyy and Aikar: I've had very little to do with either one. I have no clue about their leadershipstyles or
lack there of. The only time I've had dealings with Kryssy she responded quickly and efficiently, but What EMC cant
afford right now is mods and devs quitting or being fired. So I think it could be time for some introspection on why that is.

I just hope we havent passed the point of no return and the playerbase will return once 1.14 is up and running,
but Im not sure anymore since it has been over 15 months since 1.13 was released. Im not sure EMC can wait any longer.

If there is a working half-stable EMC 1.14 perhaps it's better to do the transition now.
I'm pretty sure another holiday season without 1.14 is gonna be detrimental.

  18. I look away from lurking from forums for a few days and this is what I come back to. My account has literally turned into a monotonous posting machine for my themed SOTD. I haven't posted a LICK of anything, so I think it's time for me to interject with my deranged BS.

I'm sickened and disappointed in this community.

That's all I can say. Because in this community, if I say anything beyond my opinion, I will probably be attacked. So all I can and will say is, is that I'm disgusted in what this place has become.

I came here when I was 12, young, stupid, and in middle school. This place was fantastic and has helped me through everything. And this place I once loved has become a place I regret I ever came to. And that is something I shouldn't be saying. I came here to have a fun time, and to meet and interact with other people. And now all we can do is fight.

There's a reason I say the X years I've been here have been the worst years of my life.

I'm 16 and a little less stupid, but my opinion hasn't changed of this place from my 12 year old self. This place had an amazing and supportive community with some amazing people. And those amazing people have left this place to seek grandeur. And I should join them. But I'm hanging onto the shadow of what used to be what my childhood was. The shadow of what used to be a community that supported each other instead of bringing each other down.

I'm probably screaming into a brick wall and no one will probably read this, so I'll leave a TL;DR.

TL;DR, I'm gone by years end, and I'm disappointed on how I'm leaving, and on what this community has turned into. EMC now is living in the shadow of what it used to be and we all need to work together to make this place better.

Viva la revolucion. Wakanda forever. Bye.
  19. (Disclaimer, I only read the OP and first couple of pages).

It sounds to me like there needs to be a big change, including some changes in leadership. If people are behaving in a largely toxic/negative way then it's time to step aside, at least partially, and let others lead. The community should be positive and energetic and so should the leadership. Bitching behind peoples' backs is bad behaviour in any context and inexcusable, but even more so in the context of professional or group project environment. Treating other people badly is never OK, no matter what is going on in your own life. If you can't communicate constructively then say nothing or step away.

Not many people can be in the same position/role for a long time and not lost enthusiasm or get cynical about it. That's why it's important for leadership renewal periodically.

The 1.14 delay is, imo, completely unacceptable if you are asking people to be paid supporters.
