Are you on Windows? If so then I suggest to check out IrfanView sometimes. It's an image viewer but it also allows you to edit parts of your pictures (such as resizing, cropping and even applying affects to it). If I need a screenshot then what I usually do is hit alt-printscreen (makes a screenshot using only the active window) and then open IrfanView, hit paste (control-v) and wham! I got my picture ready for processing. Of course you can also simply use printscreen; this would capture your entire desktop (including the status bar). Maybe food for thought?
