  2. If by EMC, you mean Minecraft in general, then yes Minecraft is on a big decline:
    https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today 5-y&q=minecraft servers

EMC's activity levels corresponds with the overall popularity of Minecraft in general.
I wish it was on the positive trend, but can't deny that MC is on the decline.

But no, EMC is not dead. EMC does fair pretty well in maintaining activity compared to the decline of MC itself though.
  3. I've seen some servers that used to be really popular going downhill, not just EMC. Like Aikar said, a lot of it has to do with Minecraft in general. From what I've seen EMC's still doing pretty well
  4. You've only got 161 posts at this time. Maybe you need to be more active on the forums to see that EMC is a two-part community. Not all the action happens in-game and that is where the forums come in. I know a lot of people tend to be more forum bodies than in-game... Do your part and make EMC or even MC great again!!!!

  5. Minecraft has reached its maximum growth potential and is on the decline. It's the best selling game of all time (144 million units). The efforts to turn it into a franchise, for the most part, appear to have failed. Mojang's success with developing other games has been extremely lacking. From this point, it can only go downhill.

EMC has a dedicated community though, and is mostly shielded from this downturn, I think. I stopped playing Minecraft years ago and I still check in here.
  6. oh dear... So I'm heavily caught up with work for a few weeks and suddenly people think EMC is dead? :D

    ok, ok, lame joke ;)

I've said this a dozen times, I'll probably repeat it many times as well: EMC is what you make of it. If you think it's dead then I guess that's it. Time to move on, maybe find something else.

But to me it's far from dead. Sure, it's in a bit of a slow period right now but that's really not that much different from last years. So far there's one kind of "That moment when..." screenshot which I've shared each and every year that I have played: the moment when I'm the "sole ruler" of SMP2 (read: when I'm either alone on the server or with a few friends who have all gathered on my res.).

Soon we'll have another vacation period and then things will get a bit more crowded again.

And in the mean time... This is what I'd use to verify a servers livelyhood:
    • Is the owner still active? (spots Aikar's comment above: check!)
    • Do players still enjoy the server? (spots several supporters in the thread: check!)
    • Do players actually still play the game? (spots several people online right now: check!)
    • Is the player <=> staff ratio still healthy? (I believe it is: check!).
      • This might be a bit controversial but it's an opinion I have formed based on several examples I've experienced over the years. Once a server gets filled up with staffers up to a point that there's always a bit of a strong presence who don't necessarily play the game anymore but seem more busy (or obsessed) with "playing staff" then... you may be onto something unhealthy.
    • Does the server actually still work? :D (I think it is, maybe I should go check: check!)
    (edit)
PS: And I'm even still firmly convinced that one day the tombs of the dragons will emerge!

  7. That's just what the world needs, another third-person shooter game. A wide open niche that is.
  8. I would say Minecraft is going down but Empire is staying the same.

  9. The amount of active players on EMC seems to have been staying the same.

  11. As someone who uses Minecraft to teach JAVA to kids, I can say that Minecraft is still relevant.

  12. Erm, well if you set difficulty to 1, you can do that.

  13. Personally, I feel like EMC has a good number of players. Theres always people on (at least on smp7) unless its the dead of night. I find that the server isn't crowded either, which I actually quite like. It makes EMC feel like more of a community :p

  14. I think EMC's light is far from out! Like Aikar said, Minecraft is general is on the decline, however EMC can still be found out there, I just checked TopG and EMC is rank 11!

I also checked the servers above EMC and they're all pretty much PVP servers, so for players that are not looking for PVP servers, as they scroll down EMC would be the first they find!

Definitely keep the voting up because it keeps the players coming!

I'm also considering doing EMC tutorial videos to help bring players in. Simply to help the players understand how the server functions and introducing all those commands. When I was new here, the commands were tough to memorize, but I didn't give up and I've pretty much mastered them.
  15. EMC cant be dead we are all here! when there is none left to ask that question then its dead :p
  16. Aikar, I'm glad we have the like button. But...we need to add the 'bwaaaa-ha-ha-ha' button

Ayanami, I know how you feel.
