I agree, German does occasionally sound a bit harsh. I kind of like that, though. And yeah, writing every Noun with a Capital can throw People off at first, but you get used to it soon enough, and it's not really a Problem. It is quite unique, though, I don't know of any other Languages using it. Haha, I like Nilpferd, that sounds so cute! ^.^ My favourite German expression I've heard so far is "Schade marmelade". There was a YouTuber who said that occasionally, and it made me laugh every time I'm really interested in languages and cultures, so I'm really liking this thread so far! People, please don't just post your country, add some things in you think are interesting about it, too!
Yay! I got the -snip- right! I know a bit of German, enough to survive at least. How to say beer please, water please, bread please, and meat please . Actually, the first girl I ever really loved was a German exchange student (no, she did not live with me). The first phrases I learned in German were "I love you" and "what's wrong", lol! She now lives in France. I hosted many German students over the years. Most I have lost contact with, except a friend in Hamburg. Many German words are somewhat close to English, especially if you understand how Germans pronounce certain letters or letter combinations. For example wasser and water. What I have trouble with is remembering which to use der, die or das.

It's confusing when you include the Crown Dependencies (Guernsey, Isle of Man, etc.) and the Overseas Territories (Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Elizabeth Land, etc.).
Pakistan gets a bad rap because of terrorism and stuff, but it's actually a really nice place. We have the second largest mountain in the world, K2, at 28,251 feet above sea level and other beautiful scenic places like Hunza Valley. There's a bunch of different languages spoken there like Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi and Balochi but the main language everyone speaks is Urdu. We also have amazing food (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ
What is "what's wrong" again in German? I love you is "Ich liebe dich", which is really hard to pronounce by people speaking standard Dutch as we have a very hard "ch" while German uses a very soft one.
Jeg er fra Norge. I'm from Norway. It's a beautiful country with fjords, fish, trolls (haven't seen any yet, unfortunatly ), and shy people. It's really cold in the winter, and lots of snow, but we're used to it. We like skiing. You can use google to find images of my beautiful country. I would say when you speak Low German nearly every englishspeaker would understand what you're saying. German "Hilf mir, das Wasser ist zu tief." Low German "Help mi, dat Water is to deep" English "Help me, the water is too deep."
one of my friends who used to play on this server is originally from Hungary, don't think that's on the list (he also hasn't played in about 3 years lol) if you're keeping tallies of countries that are already represented, kalaallit and I are norwegian, though neither of us are fluent in norwegian sadly we eat enough lutefisk and fattigmann to make up for it
It sounds kind of like how I talk :c Then again, the city where I come from used to be the ghetto capital of the UK until their residents were moved to council houses where I live now or in other areas of northern England and upper Wales (why the Scouse accent is spreading through north Wales and stuff, killing the accents already there :c) lol.
It's funny, quite a lot of those are almost the same in Dutch In Dutch, Nilpferd is nijlpaard, which is also basically the same, but "Dutchyfied".
