If I have an auction, and feel like the bids aren't high enough, I can use my alt to either bump up the bids to invoke higher bids, or bid something so that you win and don't have to sell the items at a low price - both of which are not allowed on EMC auction style, for the same reason as why we can't cancel auctions just because we feel like it.
Especially since that could make people bid twice as much for whatever the action is and allow that person to make double the money. Pretty much scamming them in a sense.
Auction tampering is illegaly interfering with an auction's outcome. An alternate account bidding in the same auction as their main account is considered tampering because it can be seen as a way to illegaly inflate the price of the item being auctioned, one of the reasons why there is a rule determining that bidding again with the same account that holds the last valid bid doesn't reset the auction timer.
Rhy was the host, though, and isn't an alt (except if you count Hashhog). I included the quote for a reason, but it got messed up.
If you include a quote but it gives an error page (I've tried multiple times), I can't do anything with it, and just give the standard answer.
They won't. I already started a PM with the host and the last top bidders. The majority of them are willing to uphold their bid aka promise. So one way or the other the host will get his payment if they want it.
It's coz it has a min bid to only go up. So you can only bid 1r above the last bid. And they banned that part a few years ago after someone did it with a dragon egg.
No, that's a maximum bid increment rather than a minimum one. I'm guessing it was the bids between Shel and Aya who are alts(?) which isn't allowed.
Though I remember that rule being created, it actually isn't on the auction page here... And I've never seen this (quote below) before. --- I hope we're talking about the same auction, in any case, the auction I'm talking about just has a minimum bid increment, like it should have. (and the reason for its closure was "auction tampering", which isn't "maximum bid increment")
If it wasn't an alt, but rather the main account making all the posts, the auction timer would not have been reset and it would seem as if the player is just increasing their bid. Since it's an alternate and main account, it seems like the interest for the item is a lot higher than it actually is, which can be seen as inflating the final price. The issue is not with the auction host or the bids, it's with alternate accounts.
Strictly speaking, an auction can end at any time as set by the host, as long as it's clear and concise. "5 minutes after the last valid bid" or "6PM EMC Time, 14th January 2018" This can't be changed after the auction has started, of course.
Seeing the auction you guys are speaking about, I did not see any tamper... Outbidding oneself is completely legal... At least in these auctions I found, but I have seen this type of behavior plenty of times before: https://empireminecraft.com/threads/auction-unb-iii-eff-v-fort-iii-pick.10474/page-2#post-154190 https://empireminecraft.com/threads/auction-chest-of-enchants.13914/#post-227903 https://empireminecraft.com/threads/auction-qwertychest-1-dirt.15044/page-3#post-259853 https://empireminecraft.com/threads/auction-turkey-slicer-viking-battle-axe.43390/page-2 https://empireminecraft.com/threads/auction-two-2014-emc-birthday-cakes.42118/#post-793050 This one is not a case of outbidding oneself, but here a Staff suggest that outbidding yourself is legal because the latest outbid by yourself still stands and you have to pay https://empireminecraft.com/threads/auction-empire-firework.61515/#post-1108738 SO... My question is, what was tampered with on this auction: https://empireminecraft.com/threads...ing-diamond-pickaxe.75325/page-2#post-1406190
Currently have a pm with Krysyy regarding this issue, will update once the problem has been resolved.
There's no issue with outbidding yourself. The issue is using an alternate account to do so. Players don't necessarily know who is and isn't an alt. As a matter of fact, I handled a similar auction last week: https://empireminecraft.com/threads/auction-1-dc-of-emeralds-starting-bid-1r.75079 As you can see, no problem with using the same account.
