  1. Weeeee! We have our own little Brexit. Or not. This is one of the best April Fools I've ever seen, and I'm in my 60s. I absolutely believed it.

  2. Given the premise of the Empire and how it has managed to survive in the Sea of Servers out there, and as a long time member, after reading the initial announcement .... there's NO WAY this would be allowed.

    Nice try y'all ... and I appreciate your outside-the-box thinking for April Fools ... but I find this one not believable ;)

  4. Thanks to Davie who helped to orchestrate this joke thread well in advance. I hope you all got a good laugh, or at least a minor chuckle, out of the post and reactions.

    To anyone that was gullible to the joke, it's wise to check logic before overreacting. The concept of one server of EMC breaking away from the others is completely irrational. Not only does SMP8 share hardware with other servers, but the code is the property of Aikar and couldn't just split and keep that. This was a joke, based primarily off the political Brexit situation, created solely for the purpose of being completely over the top for April Fools day. Seems we weren't outrageous enough =P

Oh please be true, SMP8 deserves to separate from EMC. 2 years ago it was Scotland, last year it was Britain, this year it shall SMP8's turn to break away from this oppressive establishment and to flourish under our own rule. We shall establish ourselves as an example for other servers to follow, who wish to join in our footsteps and to tell their parent servers that enough is enough.

    We are the future, we are the counter culture, we are SMP8.

  8. I'm repeating myself but who cares... I enjoyed this joke and I also think it was brilliantly executed. The preparations were honest and also caught me offguard. I recall Davie warning us up front about a possible change and I even wondered what the heck that was suppose to mean. And right now it looks funny to get quite a few like votes merely for voting no ;) But I think it's also fitting :)

    Then the joke itself... Yeah, I know some fell for it but hey; that's all part of the game. I also think this years joke was done much better by not censoring the words of reason. I think that really prevented things to escalate while you could still have some fun. And also SMP8 as target was cool; those guys can take a joke even if it is a little bit at their own expense :)

    The best part (IMO) is that you could even be honest while still enjoying the joke. Some players PM'd me to share their concerns after which I've merely been honest by saying that if it was rupees they were worried about then that was no reason for concern at all because GRIP would be paying the bills. And I meant every word I said, I would have been pushing for that next week.

    Of course also saying that they should sleep it off and wait until tomorrow :)
