[IMPORTANT] Empire Update: Silence Of The Lambs!

  1. This is great, thank you guys. :)

Any chance of a "dye" command, so people can't dye your sheep?
  2. My opinion is that there are too many mobs spawning on top of me in the wild now- getting 3 or 4 creepers and 4 -5 misc other mobs all at once. Please consider tweaking the number of mobs that are spawning around players. Thank you.
  3. Okay. Just wondering. :)

  4. You would have to go to Y 80+ to make slimes despawn.... Thats WAY away from any slime floor spawn chunk (thats 16 above typical ground level)

At that point you've obviously left the farm.

As for spawning, typically youd want to stand in a middle point to maximize spawning levels anyways to keep them out of despawn risk.

But one good news is... Slimes are spawning ALOT faster now with this update. I went to someones base last night and was swarmed with slimes.

  5. I have a couple Slime Chunks that I did out a couple months ago... I could never get it to work properly - maybe I should go back there...
  6. EGGcellent work guys. I'm going to chalk this up to you and Aikar. Although I'm pretty sure I mentioned it over mumble about 3 months ago. :p

  7. you know, at first I though this was a bad Idea and in the Thread there is Certain Points I would complain about but. I wont because its Totally worth it. I really like this Update and I am Sure to enjoy it.
  8. It's overall, really not as bad as it would seem... if you are farming animals for Eggs, just do one kind of an animal at a time... If you have 66 animals spawned, you can breed all them once, to make your 100 max... Egg the new ones, and you just got half a stack of animal Eggs. Personally I don't use all of my animal farms at once. I will maybe focus on one or two at a time...
  9. Id like to note even 100 is a "dangerous" # for us... We really compromised here.

100 animals x 1500 residents = 150,000 POSSIBLE animals. This doesn't include paintings and items nor anything in the wild!

A mere 100 residences with 100 animals puts us at 10k entities which is when the servers really to start to take a beating with lag....

100 residences only take like 30 players to load... and this puts us at potentially 11k entities.

so these limits really are very sane, and give us a little more breathing room before things reach critical levels..

Those people with 1000 animals - they consume up to 10 players worth of lag!

if 10 of these players were in a close area together, ONE single player logging in could bring the server to critical lag levels....

I hope that makes it more clear why this limit HAS to be enforced.
  10. So just to clarify (sorry if this has already been asked)
If I have 100 cows walking around in my inhumane cow coop, and I destroy a bunch of full doublechests, my items will still appear on the ground, no? And will they despawn in the regular time or will they despawn quicker because the entity cap is reached?

  11. They will still appear, and i have no idea on the despawn rate!
  12. well just a did a little test at my fortress I am working on and the ghasts definitely are not swarming like they were before. :D Thanks for the awesome work Aikar.

  13. on an additional note, this lower spawning doesn't mean the nether is easy...you can still get ganged up on if you are not careful...like my tears though.
  14. I have a base way out in the wild, and deep underground. I was getting about 1 slime an hour which i was very happy with. now i get 5-7 at all times. if i leave the slime there are more waiting for me where ever i am going. They jump in front of my mine carts, and are stealing them from me (i have a five track 4 story system, and i had 3 slimes riding mine carts at once). please advise how I can reduce this.

  15. I found this answer on another site where this was asked:

Slimes can spawn in any light level, so having your area well-lit will not stop them.
However, just as with other mobs, slimes require an opaque block to spawn on top of. You can stop them from spawning by lining the floor of your area with transparent blocks, such as glass or slabs.
Additionally, the three sizes of slimes require different amounts of room (i.e. non-opaque blocks like air, signs, torches, etc.) for them to spawn:
    • Big Slimes: 3x3x3 block area.
    • Small Slime: 3x3x2 block area.
    • Tiny Slime: 1x1x2 block area (or 1x1x1 if the upper block is not opaque).
So, another solution is to simply fill in the area as much as possible.

  16. don't leave minecarts lying around... Don't they stack now?

Edit: they don't stack... I have never had this problem though...

This is what my base looked like a month ago, now it is 40 wide 400 long and 33 high, I have 600m on 4 lvls of mine and and minecart tracks. Even if i cover the whole hall floor with slabs they will still spawn on my tracks.

Edit# please do not take this as a complaint, I understand what had to be done about the lag, and I am very happy with the work that has been done. I was just not expecting to be over run with green bouncy squares everywhere :). But if there is a fix or something I can do personally (besides filling in my whole base) I am all about it.

  18. Mobs spawn on Slabs as of 1.3... So, increase the probability of them spawning other places than the tracks
  19. I think if you have glass of either side of the tracks, or half slabs then you would be good on that end...not sure though, but from what I remember mobs can't spawn on half slabs...

Well forget what I just said...I guess you could just make your minecart tracks into tunnels that won't allow them to spawn...
  20. ghast are spawning like crazy again and its already caused me to crash
