I know I am not the only old person that plays Empireminecraft. I get the rest of my teeth ripped out of my face tomorrow while I am awake. That scares the crap out of me in itself since I already have a phobia about dentists. I'll be with out teeth for 2 months and then get fitted for my permanent dentures. I'm the dentist will give me some instructions once I get my dentures but I wanted to ask if anyone has been in the same boat as me and if they have tips for denture care. This is gonna be my first time. With Dentures, Do you find it hard to eat any specific foods? I know I gotta eat soft stuff for the 2 months without teeth. any recommendation? Thanks, Breezy
My Grandparents both have dentures and they cannot eat super sticky foods(I.E. Gum laffy taffy) anything that sticks to your teeth can be a problem when you first get them just be extra careful about stuff like that
Oh man, I'm so sorry... Just hearing about teeth being forcefully removed makes me quite uncomfortable.. :s Me personally, I've never had dentures but I've worn braces for about 4 years of my life. Personally, I know they were doing good for my mouth, but I didn't like the experience. I was glad when I got them off. I know that braces and dentures are two completely different things, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with dentures. At least those have fake teeth on them. I wish you the best of luck in this little adventure in your life, think positive thoughts.
Looking for ideas of soft protein I can eat over the next 2 months. Eggs and tuna is all I have at the moment I can think of. Only person that can't comment on this is Krysyy. I know where she works. hehehe
Peanut butter (almond butter if you have a peanut allergy) is an alternative. I eat that, and it's quite effective.
Any fish is good. Also beans should be soft enough.. lentils are high in protein especially. I like black beans.. or maple. Cottage cheese is good too. Could mix with pasta.
Thanks Raaynn. Trying to think about what I'm gonna be eating over the next couple of months that I can and I do like a variety of things.
They would need to be falling off the bone smoked on a smoker for hours but that is a great idea since I have a smoker. Just looking at getting through about the first week. I have no top teeth as of now and I still eat corn on hte cob.
I'm not far behind you Breezyman. Ground beef (like taco meat) in mashed potatoes with gravy. S.O.S. is good as well. I'll be watching this thread, for future ideas. Good luck Mr. Breezy!
Hey Breezy! I'm sorry you're having to go through this buddy. I don't know, how tight it limits you, on what you can still enjoy. I mean, I know you can't just go munching on anything, but I hope you keep yer spirits up, able to keep at least some things you like and find new ones too. I don't suppose it'll be easy at first, but I hope that your dentures work well for you. Best of hope to ya, take care. For those of you who are youngins, I cannot urge you enough, to take care of your teeth while you are young! You're not getting away with anything if you don't. I don't yet, share your boat Breezy, but I have had my own share of less than favorable trips to the dentist. There's nothing like sensitive mouth pain.
Thanks. That's a great idea actually anytime. I'm a biscuits and sausage gravy kinda guy down here in Alabama. It's got a twist with the mashed tatoes. Hmmm.
* Obvious answer I didn't see listed is shakes and smoothies. Totally different fruits and flavors there - too many to mention. As well as the addition of protein powders and flavorings. (think chocolate! berry or vanilla as a base and go wild) It's winter for most of us... *Soups are a warm food. Personally, I loved Potato soup and tomato soup as comfort food when I was young. Split pea and Squash are a favorite now. I have an easy peasy recipe for Pumpkin soup if you are interested. * Baked Potatoes, Squash, and sweet potatoes/yams can all be made in the microwave and ready in about 8 minutes. Very soft, when mashed with a little butter and salt. Add ground spices: cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, with a touch of sweetener/sugar - all of which compliment the squashes and sweet potatoes/yams fabulously. Or even brown sugar. * Guacamole or Bean dip doesn't have to be eaten with chips makes a decent soft food. * Premade chicken salad (think canned or pouch) is usually very soft and already in small pieces. Otherwise, make your own. Use a hand mixer to get a really soft consistency and skip the celery in it (or use cooked there for softer pieces) Tips: 1 - Skip diced onions and use dried flakes or onion powder for similar flavor, but smaller pieces. Ground spices are your friend after dental work. If you have Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes you want to use, that isn't ground: rig a mortar and pestal or something to crush it into powder, even a coffee grinder would work. 2 - Crockpot for batches of soup on low will go for hours, if you nap inadvertently (while healing) 3 - Blenders can be used on soup to make them a fine puree. Best Wishes on your recovery.
Thanks Nick. I would like to stress what you had said Nick in a nutshell. That care of your teeth when you are young or any age.
Here is an update. I only got the top side of mouth up rooted today. I got an appointment on the 11th of Feb to have the bottom half of the teeth taken out. I had a few infected teeth on top and the nummy stuff wasn't working correctly on them and the last 2 to come out today really hurt but I said just keep going and get them out. I am on antibiotics over the next 10 days to knock out any infection(s) in my lower teeth so the nummy stuff works the way it should during my next visit. Mean while the nummy stuff has worn off since I been home and I have a throbbing mouth right now and yes I did take a couple of the pain meds I got today. Feels weird inside my mouth right now with my tongue running across the top gums. I guess that is all for right now. I took the day off tomorrow to chill for a day before going back to work so I'll be in game tomorrow on and off all day. Thanks for all your support everyone. I appreciate it.
