  4. Already knowing the first 20 digits of Pi, I'm gonna spend today learning another 20 :D
  5. You should have included at least 3 in the promo, Beacause we would have eaten them instantly :p
  6. Mmmm smells fab! Happy Pi Day everyone :3
  7. So what you're saying is the real ultimate Pi Day is still a few years away?

  8. That looks like a broken image to me - not pi or pie
  9. I really like this promo, nice addition, happy Pi Day everyone! :D
  10. So there's no promo for the British as it is American national holidays, but there's a promo for an irrational number? A number that cannot have a date because it is infinite...

  11. Math holiday. REALLY?!

  12. Awesome, I love it!
Too bad there isn't an April 31st for us non-Americans.

  14. I just hopped online (in-game, was already on the forums) for the sole intention of grabbing that pie (I still need to have breakfast and get some tea going)... Yes, I am addicted ;)

I'd never realize EMC could be so geeky, and I love it!

  15. Surely rounding up a number can't be all that irrational.

otoh, wait a second... Dude, you're right. Lets look at the first digits, up until the one we could discard due to value:

    3,14159 26535 (I got lazy and just copy/pasted from a previous post)

If you round up pi to 4 digits then that 9 up there would cause the 15 to turn into 16. It's simple mathematics; how to round up numbers. So, although I'm all in favor of pi day I'd also argue that the official ("mathematically correct") pi day is next year: 3,1416. Man, now I feel like a geek :D

Edit: I need some coffee ;)

  16. Dang it! I won't be on :(. I'll buy it from someone if I can.
  17. Mailed you a little slice of pi
  18. You are not thinking about a large enough scale!!!
Pi: The ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

Let us say, you are working in the units of centimeters (to please most nationalities). A common formula using Pi, is the formula for an area of a circle: A=pi*r^2; r is radius.

Using a radius of 1000 cm, the difference between a result using your value and and a more accurate approximation of pi is an entire 7.3 cm^2! That is huge! More decimal places allow any individual the freedom to make the decision of how accurate their answer should be. In science this is referred to as Significant digits.

Furthermore, pi has many beautiful applications with radian angle measures, allowing for exact measurements.

I could probably talk about pi all day. I am a Mathematics Major after all.

  19. The ultimate Pi day has already happened in 3/14/1592.

Why didn't you guys make a promotional item then? #SlackingBehind
