  1. Well, fair enough, but I think maybe giving the community some sort of democratic control would add an extra element of fun to the EMC experience. Probably just me, but I'd like to see a devolved EMC legislature who can decide on certain extra laws, acts and orders, with the Ten Commandments as their Constitution. Probably not necessary, but I'd personally find it fun, don't hate :)
  2. I voted in the majority the whole survey! Glad to know the majority of EMC feels the way I do. I imagine people who took the survey who have been banned before probably account for the "more lax" votes.
  3. i'd like to make a recommendation;
everyone whose account is over 200 days old and clean from griefing on this server should be able to use tnt. i find that completely banning the use of tnt unless you pay $2o/month is kind of unreasonable and i hope to see it change. also, any news with dragon tombs?
  4. Not really unreasonable... just a precautionary measure. Griefers can be clever, and will wait if it will give them additional griefing tools - I've seen it happen. By making TNT diamond supporter exclusive, it does two things:
    1. Adds an additional safeguard for griefing - supporters have money to lose if they're banned, often meaning they'll be more careful.
    2. Makes diamond more worth it. Without the extra TNT perk, all you get is a blue name, a few extra rupees and two extra reses from gold - not really that much.
  5. keep this in mind, it's easier to pay $20 than it is to wait (x) amount of days.
and i'm sure that veterans of this server (people who have been on for x amount of days) would love to use tnt and wouldn't dream of being banned for the use of it. maybe a reset along with the derilict policy would be a good call too. like you have to be a member for say 200-250 days, but if you don't sign on for 10 days straight than you can't use tnt and your res gets deleted. every kind of block should be allowed, just in moderation and with rules (some loose as a goose, and some tighter than a 4th grade friendship).
  6. Yes, there are many older members who'd never dream of breaking the rules. But there are some that would. Do I even have to remind you of the recentish Cophermort, PThagaard, Happyshopper and Kells18 incidents? They were "senior" members, but they rule broke. Sure, they didn't grief, but they did still break one/multiple of the simple rules. The next person like them could easily be a griefer. And then there's good old jlopez - no-one suspected them, and they were a pretty old member. Look what happened.

And every block is allowed in moderation. That moderation is the diamond supporter requirement for TNT. :)

And yes it is easier to pay $20 - but at least makes people think twice, as they'd be losing IRL money.

  8. it's absurd to have to pay $20 to use one block. honestly. it doesn't stop griefing at all, it just changes the way that they do it.
  9. How does it not stop greifing? If far less people can use it to greif, you can bet it's hurting greifers quite a bit. People who greif are not exactly model minecrafters, and would not care about a server (even just to greif) enough to pay 20$

  10. You're not paying for one block. You're paying for:
    • 1300r a day
    • A light blue name
    • 4 reses
    • Supporter chat
    • TNT usage. No-one's forcing you to use this one block.
    • Live map hiding
    • Custom res messages
    • Reserved slot
    • Utopia access
    • and that warm fuzzy feeling in your tummy. :)
While I see where you're coming from in my honest opinion, real money is a bigger barrier than time. It does stop griefing - if anyone could use TNT then they'd be able to cause mass damage even quicker (and get caught). Sure, people can grab a pickaxe, but they have to actually mine the blocks then, TNT is pretty much automated griefing.

  11. One hacker using quick place and placing 3 stacks of tnt then lighting it could destroy very large creations in seconds.

a lava bucket while messy, is recoverable specially if not wood, and much slower.

breaking blocks one by one? yeah alot more slower...

Also lets not forget if we didn't have certain plugins that optimize TNT (one which we do not consider critical enough to hold up updating EMC so this partially holds true), blowing TNT can crash/grief the entire server with memory leaks and lag

  12. As nice of an idea this is, it just is something that would not work here. Politics and games don't often mix well. I don't know how many times I've had to kick people for talking about politics, because it gets nasty. We have a lot of both, republican, and democrat players.

While this may work well IRL, again, it's just something that wouldn't sit well in the game.

  13. Not to mention - some players are from other countries in general - so they have a whole different ideal of politics in general; (socialism, nationalism, fascism, independent, totalitarianism, republic, communism, democratic) ... If we try and make a whole set form of politics like 'the staff are the senate, icc is president of the house, and justin is president for instance' (kind of already is) ... but if we have the players do all the voting on what goes on - it will completely change the way the game-play runs and mess everything up ... I got all of that from what you said :)
  14. so basically we're S.O.L. if we want an area blown out of our land, or we have to pay $20 and gather resources to blow out an area. i see how tnt CAN be an issue, but animals and egging was an issue also, and you fixed that. why not tnt?
  15. The issue was fixed. The fix was making it diamond only.

  16. Which is what the Middle East does.
Also, which seems more appealing (for anyone)? "We understand that people make mistakes, and if we see honest change in you, you can get another chance due to the seriousness of your crime." or "You damn once, and you can bet all your rupees that your @$$ will never be allowed on this server again."? Exactly. Even the mods have slipped, and we wouldnt want to kick them out cause they said damn in public chat.
  17. there was no original issue. they made it diamond only from day one. i don't understand why you're being so cocky and bullheaded - i'm trying to make compromise here.
and back to the donation 'supporter' status. if you're paying to get things it shouldn't be called a donator or donation status. it should be called purchased rights status instead - because that's essentially what all of you are doing. i know i payed $5 just so i could be hidden on the dynamic map, and now i have a choice of whether i want to or not. what do people who don't purchase their rights get? unfair treatment; you can't NOT be located, you can't use TNT, you can't have more than one residence, you can't use certain chats, etc.. Equality needs to be established here.
  18. Not every place where a political landscape can be created eventually results in a Democrat and Republican faction, and it won't happen on EMC.
The kind of political landscape I would predict would be 2 main parties, a conservative one favouring older players and harsh judicial policies and a more liberal one favouring wild communities and rebellion against conformism. That's the best prediction I can come up with, it'll conform very little to real-world politics though many real-world political ideologies may inspire some movements.
I think it'd be interesting, but that's just me.

  19. It would be interesting to see what would happen. As of now though EMC is kind of a limited Democracy (kind of).
  20. I don't think that's the case, actually. It was either available or disabled for everyone at some point. :)
