[IMPORTANT] Empire Update: Silence Of The Lambs!

  1. Still doesn't really explain how SMP3 lagged with 5 people on (I counted 840 entity's around all of us - I've had 1800 around a wierd griefer on my server before and it didn't lag.
  2. ...which was what we expected. However, we got half of that.
I get that's why you do it, but my opinion still stands. I'll test how easily I can hit that count, and I'm guessing I wont need to put much effort into doing so.
  3. Nice picture.
So if you have more than 200 entities on your res, items won't drop anymore?
  4. It very well might explain that. You never know what someone has in a res NOT by you or in the wild. For all any of us know, someone has a 10,000 sheep farm in the wild (for now anyways).
  5. Great news - All too often on my nightime wanderings, there's not been a mob to be seen (smp7)

  6. Items are not limited. You will always get all your items, but your required to pick them up in order to get more animals as items too cause lag, but at least they auto despawn...

EMC is already running really high quality servers. The only way to upgrade farther is to jump into "too rich to have brains" level of spending on the bleeding edge processors.

It's not really fair to spend money on that kind of hardware instead of spending it elsewhere like helping EMC grow.

Large animal pools cause server lag and client lag. How frustrated would you be if you logged in stuck with 0 FPS because of your neighbors farm? We can not allow that to happen.

We have 1500 residences in teach town, so 100 animals per still has potential to bring us to critical levels even... Thats why we decided to do 100 instead of the originally mentioned 150-200.

It's not just 1 or 2 people bringing us down, its when 50 people have 200-300, and then their neighbors keep their chunk loaded, which makes the animals process.

If you want a larger farm, then please use the wild and spread them out some. This will give you more overall animals and keeps them unloaded when not in use.

  7. Well, no matter what you're doing to try and hit that count, it's likely going to be overkill for what you NEED.
  8. Looks like my old stomping ground (Scotland) - especially taking in the amount of cloud - it rains there more often than on Minecraft! :)

  9. No, this doesn't affect items dropping, just mob spawning. I've updated the main post to explain this better. :)

  10. It should be made that mobs don't render and get loaded unless your on that residence - There's already checks in place to check your current residence - I'm pretty sure it would be pretty simple do get this running.
  11. this is cool but when will it stop people from spamming chicken?
  12. Right now. :)

  13. Reread my post about has in a 'res NOT by you' - All players were in town at the time - 4/5 minutes after a server restart
  14. My res is officially under the limit =D Next anticipated update: dragon egg dirt removal =P

  15. Awesome update, congratulations :) My neighborhood had like 800 entities in the area, because one of my neighbors had insane amounts of sheep in his res, and this made my shop lag, which made my costumers go away because of lag :p
I have to thank no one but the staff for making my shop go back to normal!
    :D Good job!

  16. Great upgrade, congratulations.

I have some hypothetical situations that I would like to know how the new system will reacto to one week from now:

1.- I have in my "area" 200 sheep, 200 zombies and 0 other entities, everything good. Suddenly a wandering sheep enters the "area". What happens?
    a) The new sheep despawns.
    b) A random sheep despawns.
    c) A random mob despawns.
    d) Other

2.- I have in "area" 200 sheep, 200 zombies and 0 other entities, everything good. Suddenly I decide to harvest some wheat, creating for a few seconds 2 other entities. What happens?
    a) Nothing despawns.
    b) 2 random mobs despawns.
    d) Other

Thanks for all your great work.
  17. Was it plain network lag or tickrate like lag, (im guessing you dont mean FPS lag..)

What time was this? When was this?

Could of been a random network hiccup, or one of the other servers on the same machine went into using alot of resources and it affected 3.
  18. I'm actually really excited about this
  19. Animals would be the one over the limit, so 1 random sheep will disappear.

Nothing despawns. Total Entities is only used as a factor for creating more animals or monsters. It is not factored at all into removal.

    If your report looks like:

    Total: 430
    Animals: 200
    Monsters: 200
    Items: 30

Then nothing will happen to either animals or monsters.

But if your report looks like this:

    Total: 410
    Animals: 190
    Monsters: 200
    Items: 20

Then nothing will be killed, but you will be unable to spawn more animals until you pick up the items.
