Vrakroth's Guide to Mythical Beasts and Monsters

  1. If you ever read the Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief series they mention this!
  2. Name: Shades
    Myths: Greek
Description: If there is one thing I'm not sure if you should fear or dismiss, it's the shades or as many of you call them now Shadow People. These things resemble shadows, yet they are alive. They've earned many names over the years, yet the name Shadow seems to persist even today and even though we've known about them for many years nobody knows what or who they are, not even the High Draconic Council.

So, what do these things do? Where are they from? Why are they here? I don't know and that scares me, I don't know what these things are. These menacing creatures silently watch us. Even in all this mystery, some have ideas of what these things are.

The men of Greece thought of the shades as the dead. These Shades stayed with the god of the underworld in what a past assistant described to me as aworld devoid of life, full of misery. This has made me think about an idea, are the shades from another realm that can be accessed? Certainly, I would say so, the Aspodel Meadows. For now, we simply wait or I'm afraid maybe one day silence will fall upon this world.

  3. hmmm, most interesting Vrakoth, reminds me of several creatures I have run into in the past. Also many stories told to frighten small children to go to sleep and behave.

I would think there is no connection to our friend Shadow_Dcord...

  4. Sometimes a story meant to scare children is more than a story.
  5. only found out today about this, Really nice, I've just read them all :)

  6. Glad you're enjoying it.
  7. Does the newest Pokémon have a relation to these two mythical creatures?

    Lycanroc

    Marshadow

  8. Lycanroc, maybe. Marshadow is likely based on shadow dancing or shadow boxing, not Shadows.

  9. I've looked over every page so far and corrected as many grammar issues that I didn't realize I made, along with altering the text a little. You can thank Aunt Josephine for a lot of it. Also so you can tell who's talking on off page posts from me, Vrakroth will write like this as always and I will write like this.

  10. Name: Qilin
    Myths: Chinese
Description: The qilin is a mythical horse-like creature from China whose appearance foretells the coming of a great ruler or sage. They bear many resemblances to my cousins in the East, yet their form is that of a horse, some would even call them a unicorn.

The qilin is an extremely peaceful creature, it won't even harm a single blade of grass. It's also a judge of the wicked. Wicked men are burned in a magical fire by these creatures, killing them almost instantly. It is extremely painful and serves as due punishment for you fools. This mystical creature is also the inspiration for China's written language, or so it is said. Legend goes that an emperor saw a qilin turn the mystical Yellow River crystal clear, it then spoke to the emperor and left. On its back were symbols which the emperor quickly copied. These symbols later became the language used by those who live in China.

One emperor caused many to believe he was brought a qilin. This emperor didn't realize the animals brought back to him were giraffes. I have no idea how he could have possibly mistaken a giraffe for a qilin, it's quite rude. A giraffe is nothing at all comparable to such a mystical creature as the qilin.

  13. Name: Apophis
    Myths: Egyptian
Description: Apophis, he is something dragons don't discuss often. He's known by many names to us, The Betrayer, The Corruptor, The Fallen. You also have many names for him, most notably Apep, though he is known by many more to your race. Apophis was once a dragon, one of the first, but he was consumed by darkness. This corruption caused him to turn into a snake-like creature, he attempted to destroy Gailana, instead he was imprisoned. With his final words of madness, he told all that he would return, once he did, none would be safe from his insanity.

Every night Apophis would attempt to escape as he promised, so two godly beings were employed to prevent this, they were Ra and Bast. Every night, they travel to the realm by a sacred boat and slay Apophis, every night, he returns anew.

Other than this, Apophis has a long history of corrupting creatures and sowing chaos when he gets a chance to manifest an avatar upon our plane. One example is of when he accessed paradise. Disguised as a slightly smaller serpent he tricked one of you into eating from a sacred tree, sowing chaos among your people.

  14. Apophis really freaks me out. I learned about him last year when I read the Kane Chronicles books and how Bast the goddess of cats would slay him everynight.
  15. Oh trust me, he's a lot more disturbing than what you know already.

  16. Name: Mikoshi-Nyudo
    Myths: Japanese
Description: The Mikoshi-Nyudo is a spirit that appears as a human monk at first, but is something more sinister than you would believe. They appear at night walking down paths, sometimes they may also appear by bridges and above tall trees. Waiting for a passerby to come close enough to them for their true danger to be revealed.

The reason for this creature's danger is its ability to elongate its neck to ludicrous lengths. If you're stupid, you will continue to look up at it until you fall over unto the ground, once you do, it will tear at your throat and eat it, likely killing you and providing a slow painful death. There are other ways it kills. One example would be if you try to run away, try that and you will be stabbed with a bamboo spear and simply bleed to death on the path or eaten.

If you would like to not be gnawed at by this creature, simply look down at your feet and say the phrase "Mikoshita". This roughly translate to "I've seen past you" or "I've seen through you". This causes the Mikoshi-Nyudo to leave you alone. Kitsune also may sometimes shapeshift into this creature and tell people to wipe their bottoms while on the toilet; for what reason, I care not.

  17. Name: Kelpie
    Myths: Scottish
Description: The kelpie or better known as the Scottish Water Horse is a shapeshifter that commonly appears as a beautiful white horse, until you touch it that is. You'll find it's true form has a mane of water weeds and blank eyes, its hair black and sticky.

As mentioned the kelpie kills your kind. To accomplish this task, it will appear in its more beautiful form by a body of water, this form lures children to it who may want to take a ride. Once the child touches it they will find themselves stuck to its hide. Now that the kelpie has its prey it will run into the water and drown the child, then eating their flesh once the child has breathed their final breath.

Kelpies also attempt to lure men to their doom by appearing as beautiful women in or near the water also. The men will typically go and see the maiden, she will swiftly drown him to the man's surprise. If you wish to survive a kelpie, you may cut off the limb stuck to it or you can take its bridle. The one who controls the bridle, controls the kelpie, this will be no easy task, yet it’s a chance you shouldn’t neglect.

  18. I have been waiting for this :p Finally someone writes something on the Kelpie!
  19. I did say somebody would be interested in talking about them a while ago didn't I? Things take time, but a promise is a promise.
