  1. It has been said multiple times - The wild is not a safe place to build. If you build there you should do it with the expectation that it is not a permanent location. You can label me however you wish, however I am happily willing to put anything I have aside for the continued prosperity of EMC - which can only happen if we stay current with content.

    If you spent any amount of time actually reading what I wrote instead of flaming on about what your own selfish wants are then you would have noticed I never said anything at all about not wanting to walk. What I said was that - if you have to walk an hour away just to have any chance of finding an already rare item - it is going to make the item impossible to find. If the item is impossible to find then we can not claim - as a server - to be current with the new MC content. If we are not current with the content the server will suffer. Do you really want to put your own needs above the servers?
  2. I've carefully read your posts.. to suggest I havent.. well thats kinda a flame right there isnt it? Pot calling the kettle black a little there, dont cha think?

    I'm not speaking only on MY behalf, there are plenty of others that also agree with me:

    And you're confusing me wanting to "put my needs above the servers" with defending mine and countless others hard work and hours of building from being needlessly destroyed for what can only be considered a minor update.

    Yeah. There is absolutely no reason at all for a reset. Who would more naturally occurring cocoa, villages, and pyramids.

    Not resetting will cause major problems for EMC. No new players are going to pick a server that is not up to date on content.

    I'm sorry? Did I hear that correctly, 'Selfish wants' Your lasts 10 posts have been nothing but moaning about WALKING, Sounds like your describing yourself there.

  4. The idea that we arent going to grow, or (lol) "die" if we dont reset is preposterous, but I'll indulge you just for a moment..

    You are concerned about maybe losing members that might join? What about all of the loyal long term members and supporters (and a MOD or two) that might leave if we do a reset again so soon? You arent concerned about them at all? Or did you just over look them because they dont help you make your point?

    • Trading with villagers - I seem to remember hearing they'll spawn a random profession. We have eggification. Problem solved.

    • A new ore block Emerald Ore - True, it's a problem. Then again, it will appear in the PRA. Admittedly, this would work better with PRA's around outposts.
    • Villages can spawn in Jungle Biomes - NPC villages are pretty much always destroyed.
    • Added Pyramids, a new structure in Desert biomes - Contain traps. People would moan, say it was PvP (it's not). They'd be deactivated.
    • Cocoa plants on Jungle Trees - Cocoa + Jungle log + Bonemeal + ???? = profit!
    See. No need for a reset.

  5. by her logic we should have already "died" as a server because we dont have a hugely popular "rare item": the ender dragon. yet....here we are, doing just fine...

  7. Anyone - especially a mod - who says. If I don't get my way I'm leaving. Is not worth having around. The server will loose gaining new players in a much greater number than it will loose old players.

    you can grow these right in your backyard on your res with a jungle sapling and some bonemeal.

  12. Yeah. I totally see how you could compare people playing a video game to important historical figures who helped to change the world by standing up to intolerance. You have completely changed my mind with this completely relevant argument.

  16. Okay, I've read through all the posts here and would like to offer a few thoughts. First and foremost, I want to say that I respect most of the people who are heavily debating here, and mean no offense with what I say. I am aware that there are multiple advocated opinions in this situation, and there are plenty of good points on both sides of the argument.

    First, I think we should all take a small step back and calm down, and then get back to CONSTRUCTIVE debate. Nothing gets solved when sarcasm and bitterness are used, it just steps on toes and perpetuates an already bad situation. EMC has plenty of very intelligent people, and I am sure with some cooperation and compromise, we can come up with a solution that will appease most people.

    Second, despite all the arguing about living in the wild versus living in town, what I've seen since joining is plenty clear. Building in the wild is dangerous. Choosing to live in the wild, regardless of motivation, inherently assumes that risk. There are some beautiful creations out there that would be really sad to lose, but that is the end result of going against the strong suggestion of not building out there. Do I live in town? No, by no means. I try to find spawners and resources all the time in the Wild on several of the servers. Do I want to lose the things I find? Of course not. Do I know there is a good chance of it happening? Unfortunately I have to say yes. These things are the reason that a vast percentage of the 30k members playing here follow the suggestion of building in town. Which leads me to the next thought...

    Thirdly, I think it would be unfair to deny the masses of players who don't live in the wild the chance to play with the new things in the expected update. There are methods of playing with some of the new stuff without a wild reset, granted. And for the most part, that may solve a lot of the problem. However, with that many players, many of whom aren't game mechanic inclined, playing with new concepts in-town wouldn't be sustainable for long. I advocate for people to play their own way, and those who want to live out in the wild should have the chance to do so. However, inline with what I said above, the Wild residents know the risks they take before they live a life apart from the norm. It's a simple Democratic notion. The wants of the masses decides action. Note though, that I do feel it would be important to find a way to prevent this in the future. And that leads to my final thought for now.

    Lastly, finding a solution, not proving the other side wrong, is the best remedy for this debate. Is there a way to protect certain areas of the Wild? Maybe a way to relocate spawners and farms built around them? Maybe allowing donators to move spawners into residences on Utopia? There are pros and cons for each of those things, I am aware, so let's not go into that just yet. All I mean is that we should be focusing on ingenuity to solve the dilemma, not putting each other down. So, I officially call for suggestions on how to mediate this situation. We could add the idea of only resetting half the servers. Or maybe resetting unexplored areas only? Outposts would be more utilized then. Discussion abound about new perks for donators, and while I'm not privvy to what the server staff are thinking up, maybe the idea of being able to destroy a spawner and pick it up if you are a donator would serve well here. It would be a huge boon to those who support the server, allow for a way to rebuild mob farms after resets, and solve the problem of some people feeling the ranks of donators are too close together.

    There are a lot of people here a lot smarter than I am on these things. Maybe one of them has a better idea I haven't mentioned, and I am sure we all would love to have it come out. Peace to you all!
  17. Why not just reset all wild areas but as mentioned give players a good 7-14 days notice that the wild areas on all server will be reset.
    Have a HUGE MASSIVE countdown timer on the Empire homepage so no excuses can be said. It gives people enough time to remove any items they have out in the wild. Seems pretty logical to me, that the wild areas NEED to be reset for new content. New update = new code. So get a friend and start hauling when the time comes :}
  18. I appreciate your comments on this chrystian, I only have a few things to add:
    As you have mentioned, suggestions about living in the wild and inherent risks that goes along have been made. However, these warnings are not soley based on resets, although that is a part out it. It is risky and warned against mainly because of griefers and that your belongings and creations are not protected in the wild as they are in town, that is the main risk and reason why you are warned about building in the wild. With that being said, yes, people who build and live in the wild must understand thats resets will occur, that fact is not lost on us, and that fact is not my main objection. Myself and the majority of wild residents understand that resets are inevitable, what I am protesting against isnt that resets occur, it's that they need to be neccesary and that I wish people had a tiny bit more compassion and consideration for the people that lose an enormous amount of hard work and effort every time a reset occurs. Take for instance the last post from weeedblaze... he is suggesting that people's main objection to resets is the materials they might lose... that isnt that point of our objections, it is the loss of time and effort that we have put in to creating something new and unique.. which will be completely destroyed by a reset. Basically (and this is an analogy before some of you try and take this too literally..) you're saying, "its ok! you can take all your belongings and any lumber you want to keep out of your condo before we bulldoze it! so that should make you feel better!"

    As I've mentioned numerous times in this thread, I dont think a reset for this update is absolutley neccesary, and we've highlighted the reasons why a reset isnt neccesary for this update. I'm fully aware that down the road another reset will occur, but I expect that to happen only when it has to happen and that the staff and community wil take everything into account before reaching that decision.

    What some of you fail to realize is that MC updates are not always synonymous with resets and every single update does not warrant a reset. From a post that either justin or jeremy made before the last reset when all the debating was going on, they stated that there had been multiple small updates that had occured that didnt require a reset, but the last update provided a good opportunity to catch up on all the things that hadnt been added with each subsequent update prior, hence the reset was proposed and voted on.
