"8. Thou Shalt Not Use Excessively Foul Language"

Be careful of what you type into the chat. The Empire is a public place for all people of all ages. It's not the place for foul language. Save it for private messages with your friends. If you’re not sure what is considered ‘excessively foul language’ ask a moderator.
Doesn't this mean that you are allowed to say Foul language however if used to upset someone it is not acceptable?
I mean sure the F-word isn't pleasant to hear in chat I think no one should say that because it becomes excessive at a point however WTF? shouldn't get someone in trouble. I think that Foul language is not at all good but at some points, because we all are 13 and above, we should be allowed to use it. This is what I think about this situation.

So with that logic, someone who is lost in the wild, and takes one loaf of bread from a chest, posts a sign with his name, and sends the chest owner 5oR, should be dealt the same as someone who takes a stack of diamonds and leaves nothing in return.

This is where my knowledge of the law comes into play

The demographic of most players I'd say range from 11-16, then 18-23 then mid 30's are the majority of players (Don't get me wrong with statistics ... but just stating - we have alot of kids ranging from age 13 all the way down to age 7 or younger).

Just like how the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) states under FTC rule, that if a website is ran for general audience, they must obey the rule to not give out information of children age 13 and under, EMC states you must be age 13 and older ... (It still includes age 13, therefor the COPPA is still in affect).
(This is only under U.S.A. law? No - it is also included in International Data Privacy (Includes 57 other countries)).

But ... that act is actually quite useless cause it and the current acts regarding language are useless or are no longer in existence.

However, I still believe to keep things PG; there should be no cursing - no matter the exceptions ... If you curse in town chat:

• You know what you say and your:
  • Too immature and shouldn't be playing.
  • Too lazy to hit the backspace button and not send it for everyone to see.
  • Need to go cool off - and come back when your anger is not to other players.

Regarding the word 'Damn'

• This is the possible only way the law could come in on a situation involving language:
  • Religion: people from different religious backgrounds see this word involving:
    • Damnation - Which means eternal punishment
    • Damn 1 - A shortening of the 1st definition; A form of bad luck (alt ex.) Why did this happen?)
    • Damn 2 - A worse form of the 1st definition; A form of blame (alt ex.) Why? I blame you!)
  • Family Values (Beliefs): Some players are raised on strict backgrounds or beliefs - where it is against his/her culture to use these words or curse words in general ... Some are severely punished for saying it in the least (ex) I hang out with a group of friends, my dad catches me being with them and they are cursing like sailors - He has no control over them, however since I am caught being with them - I am no longer allowed to hang around them| If I did hang around them, it would rub off on me and I'd start cursing like a sailor) (that was hypothetical)

The law about 98% has no influence over actual harming of players under 13 by having to listen to vulgar language.... however EMC is 'now' the law here instead ...
This website might be made for players (only) age 13 and up ... but minecraft was made for all ages ... and there is no way that kids age 13 and under can be stopped from playing this ...
However, this isn't saying we can't prevent kids age 13 and under (or anyone, for that fact) ... from hearing foul language ... I believe, like Panda posted, there are 'Always' alternatives and preventions from cursing in chat ... even if it's only 'WTH' etc ... so the next time you're about to say the F word or D word ... please don't - Instead, if you have to use for instance, awwe...

Well let's say, I keep myself from using it in here, because that's in the rules. And because some people are just against it, and thinking to others.

I rarely use any vulgar language and avoid it in my day to day conversation. I feel it detracts from the message you are trying to convey. If I see a really nice minecraft build, I think it's much more useful to describe it than to say it "Kicks ass". All the latter says is that I'm excited about it but otherwise says nothing. If I ever swear, I am really excited, shocked, or mad about something.

I tell my kids, there are hundreds of thousands of words in the English language. Why limit yourself by using just a few that don't really mean what you are trying to say? It just makes you seem less intelligent to the people hearing your words.

If I use a euphemism, I am conveying the same information as when I'm not. The difference is my intention. I can say "he's passed away" or that "he died". The message is the same, but my intention with the former is to make the news gentler on the recipient which I find a little silly.

I view using swearing euphemisms as an attempt to swear but trying to weasel out of the consequences. If I say "fudge", "shoot", or "darn", I might as well have said the real deal. The message is the same. You are telling me you are upset about something, but you are also telling me that you aren't so upset that you couldn't run it through your "I don't want to get in trouble so I'm going to say this instead of THIS" filter first.

I sometimes involuntarily swear if, for example I hit my thumb with a hammer or am shocked by something. But there's nothing accidental about typing a swear word.

Regardless of what I type, there is no mistaking that I've thought of something to say, then chosen the words I'm going to use to say it while taking into consideration whether the words I use might possibly get me in trouble and filtering/editing my message. Then I intentionally type them.

One of the most annoying practices I've seen in online gaming is someone who, instead of trying to help themselves, starts frantically typing into chat something like, "OMG whar's the monk?". At the same time, I'm thinking to myself, "OMG, why don't you use a spell or run to save yourself you ding-a-ling?". Having someone like that in a raid party is usually a bad sign unless you are loooking for high adventure.

I view someone that says "WTH creeper" about the same. Yeah, we know you probably have a hole there. Clean up and let's get moving before another or worse comes along.

We should put a lava wall around society and not let them out until they agree to disregard the concept of swear words, then we wouldn't have this problem.

Sometimes when I am in pain, angry, or I just need to make my sentence emphatic, I will go to my library of "sentence enhancers" and pull one out.

WTF, Crap, stupid, sucks, and Shut Up arent "BAD" bad words to me. I just think they should be used sparingly.

Shut up shouldnt be used against anyone, as it is almost always rude. The rest rely on context.
