SEU questions the viability of this project. Not having sunlight or being unable to go outside would affect people... Also, it would be very expensive. very, very expensive. As in even the SEU, with its inordinate amounts of resources, manpower and money, could not succeed; the greatest industrial power in the world could not succeed at building this monstrosity (OOC: I am not joking.). SEU instead proposes a network of planned buildings that will maximize efficiency. It will be the World's first planned city, and will be many more times efficient than any other city.
This would probably be a much more viable alternative. As for sunlight/etc, we were planning that a lot of outdoor activities would take place on the roof of the building. However, overall, the plan will still be mostly the same; except for opening it up (ped./bike ways be roofless) and making it have windows for outside light.
SEU is well aware that this project is frankly impossible; several places in Kaliningrad do not have the integrity to withstand this, this project would require demolishing infrastructure and environment on a grand scale. In addition, creating such a massive project would strain the UBR everything industries to their limit, requiring major readjustments of the UBR economy. In addition, due to the laws of a semi-free market it is inevitable prices will go up (because nothing good lasts), and no one will be willing to finance such a risky move. SEU views it as foolhardy.
This is being built in the newly-finished polder near Kaliningrad, not actually IN the existing city of Kaliningrad. The market part is correct, however these are the risks you must take. The housing demand is large enough because of the growing population. This is necessary, despite that (ooc) it may become the 50's version of modern San Francisco.
And just like that, ordered nearly 20 years ago by the 1st Caliph, New Babylon has been built. A remake of the ancient Mesopotamian City, it is quite literally the mother model of the ancient city, built directly from scratch beside the ruins of Babylon, and built entirely by the government and people. It is 2x larger than the ancient city, and accommodates a population of nearly 400,000 people, although it needs to fill up first as only workers and whomever lives there at a few thousand people. It follows ancient architect styles with modern twists. Rectangular buildings made out of concrete and other brick materials, coated in white paint with some additional streaks of blue and what not. These are adequate residences, having luxurious interiors with air conditioning, plumbing, lounges, utilities and lighting. (However most homes are empty, but the outsides are complete). The streets are wide and well paved, enough for two large sidewalks on each side and a street going down the center for vehicles and even horses, bikes and carriages. One very large road goes through the center of the city with a 3 way on each side. Around the city there is greenery everywhere, with various parks, fountains, palm trees and hanging flower pots on nearly every building. In the center of the city is the New Hanging Gardens. Bigger than the original, it is built with such pristine, and built to accommodate nearly every exotic species of tree and plant. A Ziggurat sits in the center as well, however it is for museum purposes, and not for worshiping, as it is against Islam. The Euphrates runs through the city going through well filtered systems. It acts as a large canal, as boats can sail down it an go under the massive bridges that tower over it. The city however is not void of modern traces, and features a hospital, police and fire station, multiple car dealerships, massive universities, schools, labs, corporate offices, restaurants, shops and many more. A market place is near the center, and instead of being a shack of vendors, it features luxurious brands and restaurants encased around the market square, with the obvious vendors in the center. The government building sits North of the city on a plateau by the wall. It is the tallest building there and fits every major regional representative inside of it. Maybe not as big as the Palace of the Soviets, but it is the Palace of the People no doubt. The entire city has proper sewage, water piping and other advanced systems. It is like a modern utopia, still, with the traditional white rectangular building shape, but with marvelous glasses, intricate street ways and beautiful palaces. At the front of the completely walled city is the Gate of Ishtar, a complete replica, and will be a welcoming point to anyone who enters. A mosque sits near the center as well, and probably one of the biggest in the world, besides the one at Mecca. It is known as the White Mosque Because Ashqar realizes the importance of all the religions in the region, he builds a massive church and Synagouge for the Christians and Jews, as well as other smaller temples. These are near the centre as to not divide the cities religions and to be accepting to everyone. Ashqar Ayyad will live in a small humble mansion on a hill outside the city walls in the Caliph district. This district features its own private mosque and gardens, however at a lower quality than an emirate, as Ashqar believes that him and all his officials should live humbly, meaning that his living conditions are like the people, and not like a king. Ashqar Ayyad is a rich man as he as inherited his brother's fortunte, the 1st caliph, who was richer than Monsa Musa was. However, all of the money to build the city was directly from the 1st Caliph's wallet, which barely made a dent, showing how rich he was. Ashqar will use this money for repairing the nation and helping the poor and needy, and he will never bother to use it all on himself, even though yes, he is very, very, very, very rich. New Babylon will now be the Capital of the newly established Sunayyad Caliphate.
The Sunayyad Caliphate is currently making BIG money. And most of this money is through foreign exchange. Of course, with a new government in place, the economy is improving drastically, and money that was focused on the military and for the gains of the aristocracy, is now being focused on healthcare, education, welfare and other costs. The Caliphate has NEVER been in better shape in their human condition apartment More than 3x the amount of people have been given accessibility to proper healthcare, education and jobs since 1935 Literacy rate has gone up by nearly 10% since 1920 as more people are accessing proper education The rate at which people have graduated at medical school, engineering school, science departments and others has risen at a rate where more and more students are graduating in masters programs, allowing hospitals and such to fill up with doctors, surgeons and nurses. Although still developing, clean water is becoming more accessible, as seen by a 1% increase in community access to fresh water. This is expected to rise heavily by 1965 Malnutrition is still a developing issue but has dropped by 2%, meaning more children and adults have access to nutritious and filling foods. This is expected to drop heavily by 1965 Since 1920, nearly 50% of all cities and towns that didn't have electricity have gained sustainable electricity. ALL major cities have electricity and energy, however some towns in some rural parts of the Caliphate do not have that privilege, however by 1962 the government expects every city to be powered by electricity, meaning that they finally have lights. Infrastructure is booming, roads have been built all over the nation connecting smaller communities to massive trade routes, heavily expanding their economies by 5x their original amount. The national pipeline running literally throughout every part of the country was expensive, but allowed for oil and energy to be transferred literally everywhere in the Caliphate, making the economic situation improved, as well as with the railway. The Caliphate gets most of their massive money incomes from these: Exporting petroleum, mainly to the NAE, Pakistan, Europe, SEU (Although they are trying to become less dependent on the Caliphate, they still buy more oil than anyone else to run their massive empire) Owning the world's biggest trade ways, the Bhosporous Strait, Suez Canal, Gibralatar, Persian Gulf. The fact that the Caliphate is making billions off of this can not be underestimated. Huge shipping ports and trade harbours are being built in this area, making these places ooze money $$$. Railway: Goes from Constantinople all the way to Pakistan, down the Arabian Peninsula, then down the nile, then all the way to Morocco. The ability to trade and transport throughout the country is insanely useful Pipeline: Goes around the country like the railway, improving the export of petroleum by a LOT, and allowing small communities to literally become utopias rich (Dubai is transforming from a fishing town to a massive city)
The biggest setback and pro of each nation: Sunayyad Caliphate Pro: Secured most major routes of the world, insanely rich in oil, Setback: 1 word, Desert. SEU Pro: So industrially and economically (and physically) massive that they could destroy any nation Setback: Everyone is too busy fighting and too slow to make progress UBR Pro: Modern civilization, eco friendly and the lead nation of high class living and betterment of the world (Basically like what the Scandinavian countries are like for us today) Setback: Small size means small military and resource count SNE Pro: Professional and large army Setback: Resources are minimal for such a massive nation The Federation Pro: Literally swimming in natural resources Setback: Literally hasn't been developed, quite poor and isn't up to date with anyone at all Tell me if this is correct
The Caliphate's military is stalemating, however dozens of more cruisers, destroyers and submarines have been ordered for the Navy, and the AI-5 is in development, a supersonic jet fighter. Basically, in the next year the Caliphate is going under a short military upgrade, meaning refreshment of strategies, new equipment, and brand new vehicles and weapons. The X-5 is going to be a blast. Literally The Caliphate wants to begin exporting oil to the UBR. New reserves have been found in Arabia, AGAIN. The Caliphate wants much more money, and thus wants to make it by selling a lot of it to the UBR who will need it. The region of Israel is under control, currently the Caliphate military is stationed there during the crisis and has blocked 90% of all SNE supplies from getting through. Seriously, everyone else is better at making insurgencies against everyone else, but the caliphate is the best at containing them. The spy program has increased and the Zeta Code has seen new speakers. Information on the SEU testing animals in space has appeared, and even though they are failures the Caliphate is interested and has noted the Caliphate Space Agency. With the X-4 being shot into orbit with pleasing results, the new satellite which will be carried by the X-4 is nearly finished. Basically, the X-4 will be the first space launcher for satellites, the X-5 will be the first fully operational ICBM, enough to transfer a massive warhead, and the X-6 (literally only thought of as of now) will be another addition to the family and improve on the ICBM and Space Rocket designs. Although the X-4 is enough to be an ICBM, and will be the world's first launched ICBM, the X-5 is much more appropriate as a fully operational ICBM however, the X-4 will be launched as a one time thing and the X-5 will be the legitimate start to the family of ICBMs The X-4 is basically a 4 engine liquid fuel rocket.
It's less infighting for the SEU and more their own size that slows them down. They stop and start slowly; their momentum is unstoppable, but building up their momentum is an absolute pain. They have manpower, they have money, they have influence, they have the most natural resources, but in matters of war and large projects, it takes ages to do things, mostly because of size. In matters of war, mobilizing their entire army and industrial strength takes years. In matters of large projects, they plan very long term. Infighting was in the first 20 years or so of SEU's existence. Ever since the Maoists took power, they have slowly eradicated infighting and replaced it with a meritocracy. SEU has launched a Chimp into space and got it back alive. Yes, alive, SEU plans to parade it around and to put it in a zoo and treated like a King. The MiG-21 is being designed and is close to its first flight. The MiG-19 is more like a Gen1++ fighter rather than a Gen2 fighter, and SEU has found it uneconomical. The T-54A and T-54B has been introduced into the SEU army and the base T-54 made available for export for all members of the USSR. The Socialist Eurasian Union has either museum-ized or scrapped every WW2 Era Fleet Carrier, replaced by 6 Carrier Task Forces. In addition, SEU has converted the Wuhu-Class Cruisers into Guided Missile Cruisers. Anti-Ship Missiles and a variety of antisubmarine weapons are stored onboard. Based off Wuhu, SEU has created the Surgut-Class Cruiser with 2 Torpedo Tubes (Torpedoes have evolved a lot since WW2). Why 2? Because they are prototype keel-breakers. Even 6 of these torpedoes could kill the monstrous Supercarrier of the SEU navy. It would take 12 to kill it with WW2 era torpedoes. Of course, the SEU navy is not about to let that happen, and SEU is training their officers to fight Submarines and strengthening their own Submarine Corps. They have Anti-Ship Missile launchers (SEU has been developing them for a while.). However, the AA defense is not the best and these ships are frankly overweight. They rely on the Carrier for inland strike and really effective antiair capability (they still can do it, just not that well), but their Radar, Anti-Ship Capability, and Antisubmarine warfare are all first-rate. This will be a trait of SEU ships for years to come. In addition, SEU has launched a project to convert the Sydney-Class Destroyers into guided missile Destroyers.
SEU military various facts: Army: Strong Armored Fighting Vehicles, they are very good at Tanks and IFVs. Big believers in the nice style of counterinsurgency warfare, they are trying to get some experience but they are currently unable to. Excellent Logistics due to virtue of resources. The Caliphate is good because they can get the stuff to the Battlefield more or less intact, SEU is good because they have so much stuff. A lot of their recruits are not that well trained. This is problematic for many reasons. It is partially alleviated with the fact that SEU soldiers live very comfortably for soldiers and thus preventing a complete breakdown in morale, but not completely. The SEU army is slow (UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE CENTURY) to mobilize, but this does not apply to when they are actually in battle. In battle, they are strong, fast, and cannot be taken down easily. Navy: They are not the best at AA, relying on their Carriers for this role when with a task force. They also have practically 0 inland attack capability, relying in Carriers. They are excellent at Anti-Ship and Antisubmarine work. Due to repeat wars with Island nations, they are scarily good at amphibious assault, and are experienced in the subject matter. This is also why they love the old Battleships so much and insist on maintaining them; the 280mm and 457mm shells are excellent for shore bombardment. SEU ship design revolves around longetivty. Their ships are usually overweight, but are sturdy, perform well with age and last a long time. The SEU Navy is stretched thin and underfunded. The SEU Navy likes Capital ships. They show up nice on propaganda posters and are imposing shows of strength, allowing the SEU to get lots of value out of one ship just showing up. Air Force: The SEU Air Force has good pilots. They may not be the best or the cream of the crop, but they are all good at their jobs. The SEU Air Force is very balanced. However, they are not the best at recon and intelligence gathering, and are altogether legendary at ground support. The SEU Air Force prefers ruggedness, ease of maintenance and manufacture over performance. This doctrine is questioned by many, but SEU forges on. Combined: All very reliant on massive resources. Take that away and they are nothing. They work well together. Takes ages to do anything; the Air Force is fast, but useless without the support of the other two. SEU values combined arms operations, and so SEU won't allow them to act independently. They all suffer from incompetent middlemen. Their NCOs are great and the generals are great, but everything in between just is varying degrees of suck. They are frankly underfunded, the lot of them. The SEU Army is the least underfunded, but they are disproportionately small. If they were well funded and given time, they would be unstoppable. However, they are not given either of these things.
SEU has proposed a deal to the UBR. UBR gets all the Uranium it wants, for free. In exchange, UBR will give all of the Plutonium that results to SEU for free. SEU is activating and experimenting with Fast Neutron reactors, and is planning to use Breeder Reactors, Fast Neutron reactors, and MOX fuel LWRs. RBMK reactors are but a first step, and is planned to be decommissioned wholesale by the 1980s in favor of the Nuclear Fuel Chain that results from these reactors being used in conjunction. However, in the event of a crash in Uranium Fuel prices SEU is planning to use improved RBMK reactors for reactors further away from major population centers, and LRWs for reactors closer. The Plutonium is going to be used in Nuclear Weapons, that is an open secret. SEU wants to expand its arsenal against that of the Caliphate, and with 2 of the 3 triad legs complete SEU is expanding its capacity to wage Nuclear War.
The SEU is expanding its Nuclear Arsenal, regardless of whether the UBR deal of Uranium for Plutonium goes through. The SEU Nuclear Arsenal is around 1,000 bombs. SEU is planning to expand that to around 5,000 weapons with various warheads of differing yields; SEU will produce Plutonium through the RBMK and LWRs that are under construction or finished. SEU is planning to build many warheads with a yield of 200-250kts, and pepper them finely across the land of their enemies. SEU will have 1,000 for SNE, 1,000 for the Caliphate, 1,500 for India, 1,000 for the Federation and 500 for Indonesia.
The Caliphate has a substantial Nuclear supply, of nearly 2,000 units of nearly anything nuclear weapon related. Plutonium and Uranium is plentiful, and the main exporters to the Caliphate are: Canada Niger Uzbekistan All have somewhat well rounded ties, as Canada is almost like a Caliphate puppet (usually business and politcally rather than religiously, because quite frankly, the Caliphate deals with religion nationality and are very, very, secular internationally) Niger and Uzbekistan have obvious Islamic ties, and of course will agree on many things. Ashqar Ayyad is not finished in New Babylon, now, he attempts in uniting the entire country. He creates the "United Vision" which is an act in parliament which gives voices to almost every community in the Caliphate. because of the different ethnicity and sub-communities, such as Berber's, Samaritans, Armenians, Alawites and more. Although the count of the sub-ethnic groups is high and hard to manage, the main groups are accounted for in the government, while the sub groups are given national recognition and are listened to when they speak to the government for ideas and problems, etc. From every region there is a regional leader who has a seat in government, those regions are divided by major ethnic groups and what not, and are not borders as before. Iraq is not in the borders that it was before conception of the Caliphate, instead, iss regional and not very significant borders, other than representation, only lie in Mesopotamia, beside the region of Kurdistan. From each region are representatives of the ethnic groups, religions and what not from those regions, who have minor seats in the "lesser" parliament. There are even lower sub groups, however they do not hold physical seats in parliament, but are significant enough to be recognized by the government. In other words, Ashqar is realizing the world is changing right before him, and instead of sticking to his traditional roots and the way of the ancient Caliphs from Muhammed, he must adapt through democracy, while of course keeping power, just in a matter where more people have say. Other religious groups have spoken out and wanted to get a role in parliament, and although they can not exactly control the religious state of the Sunayyad Caliphate, those other religions such as Catholicism, Christianity, Judaism, etc, are recognized and are accepted into the "lesser" parliament. The "lesser" parliament is not very significant in the fact that they have little control over the decisions of the Caliphate. Basically an ethnic tribe of 600,000 people in Afghanistan does not have the power of the Region of Turkey. However, they are recognized and if any ideas, problems and what not arise, they are brought up to the "greater" parliament where they are issued. An example of this would be the region of Libya bringing the issue of their massive water reservoir and how they could use it to benefit the Caliphate, or an ongoing tax problem with an Arabic tribe, or their problem with rich land owners, etc. Although minor problems aren't brought directly to the Caliph, they are definitely worked on, with the policy that EVERYONE within the borders of the Caliph, even Southern Iberia have a say in the development of where they wish to proceed in the future.
The SEU is asserting greater control over Hong Kong. They ask to make a deal with SNE for them to hand over Hong Kong in exchange for greater Economic cooperation with them and particularly Italy. Remember that Benito Mussolini is still running Italy, and he is doing a stellar job, and that he is still looking to rebuild the Roman Empire to some extent; he has given up Libya, but he has turned the former Empire's Greek provinces into a puppet state of "equal unions" and is looking to create a union among Southern Europeans. However, a lot of the former Empire has been eaten by other nations So basically Impossible: Britain, France, Turkey, all of Africa, most of Anatolia Hard: Iberia (Iberia has been a mess ever since the Caliphate and SNE took it up. This is inevitable; the Caliphate murdered the Pope and the Vatican is still angry, understandably. SNE is more popular, but Italy has a lot more Catholics and SNE favors them less. With sufficient diplomatic wrangling, they could take Iberia.) Possible: A lot of the Southern-Central European nations in a sort of union. Basically, Mussolini is never getting the full Roman Empire back, but he could get pretty close in the northern parts. As of now, SEU is finishing up the Palace of the Soviets. All that's left to do is to place the giant spire, and SEU is building the antennae. As soon as it is finished, SEU will hold an event where the combined congresses of the USSR go there and open it up for usage. It'll mostly be SEU that uses it, but it can hold everyone. The Palace of the Soviets is set to open on 1/6/1953. It will be the most majestic and tallest building on earth. However, SEU knows that it will make it a prime target for terrorists as a towering symbol of the Socialists and their success. SEU does not want terrorists to blow up their giant building that they spent years building, so SEU has instituted strict security. It is also designed to take a Jet liner and remain standing (albeit a small one.). In any case, SEU has commissioned Ilyushin (now semi-independent and basically doing their own thing in Civilian Airliners. It's a State-owned enterprise, but private investors own 49% of the stock and the SEU Government basically lets them do whatever) to make a Jet Liner. Making Jet Liners is hard. Like, really really hard. As in it takes top-of-the-line tech prowess and resources. But SEU has all the money in the world and not enough places to spend it in; they've been running budget surpluses for a couple years now (given, mostly achieved by strangling the military and their funding. The Navy can't run its 6 Supercarriers, they are all in port doing nothing and the recent ships that had been ordered? They've built one each.). They have money, and they want to spend by building Jet Liners. Once that's done, the SEU government will place an order for a modified version that will transport the People's Leader.
After extensive research and Soci, a new plan for power has come from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. It would increase the amount of renewable energy uses in the UBR up to 100% by the year 2000. It's an ambitious goal, however it can be met, and with great, positive impacts to the economy. The UBR has been investing in things like hydroelectricity, but it turns out there aren't as many hydroelectric opportunities as previously thought. Here are the study's results, by country, about how we can get our clean energy output to 100%. (ooc: All of this data is copy-pasted from thesolutionsproject.org, so if any of youse guys want to do the same thing, just go to that site and find the interactive map. Of course, this is measuring population in 2019, not in the 1950s, so the numbers are definitely a bit high. However, I'm just going to say that the numbers of people are high because the government wants to look like it's doing more than it is.) SEMI-IMPORTANT PART FOR THE SEU BEGINS HERE One conclusion from the study is that nuclear power isn't a very renewable power source. The uranium-plutonium deal with the SEU will still continue, however the uranium will be sold to other socialist countries, as long as they only use it for nuclear plants, and not to make nuclear weaponry. Of course, if sold back to the SEU, that rule will be nullified.
SEU has many differences in opinion from UBR. For example, SEU is a lot more suited to Nuclear Reactors than UBR because of their much more vast territory. SEU believes that seawater extraction of Uranium, MOX fuels and Plutonium reactors will make it effectively sustainable; in addition, they have begun advances into Thorium molten salt reactors and is planning to make Thorium their primary power source. RBMK reactors are dangerous, and SEU does not like them. SEU has way too many Coal power plants, and plans to phase them out 100% with RBMK and LRWs by 1960, and to phase that out with Thorium MSRs by 1980. SEU secretly plans to modify the MSRs to produce Pu-239 anyway, so SEU will have a nice supply of Nukes.
The Caliphate notices Mussolini's struggles to build the Roman Empire back and mocks them. The Caliphate has already achieved returning old empires back with ease, replicating the Umayyad Caliphate, but this time with much bigger borders. The Caliphate holds this plan in secret, but wishes to make it work. If the Italians decide to grow larger to the point of threatening the Caliphate and SNE, Ashqar wants to make a pact with the SNE to work together and destroy The New Roman Empire, and hopefully, split their land masses. Of course, the Ottomans showed what taking the Balkans was like, and the so the idea of splitting the landmass is challenging to decide, however, Mussolini is literally no match for the Muslims.
The plan for the New Kaliningrad planned city is going...the complete opposite of "swimmingly". It's basically a garbage disposal but for taxpayers' money. And so, the project is being shut down. There are better things that the money can go towards. Such as... The effort to get to 100% clean energy! Our plan is to focus on bringing the renewable energy to each country one-by-one and then consequently shut down fossil fuel plants in the country. We start with Estonia, the smallest country (well, it's Kaliningrad, but they weren't part of the study. They'll be included in the Lithuania plan). Let's break it down by energy type: Residential rooftop solar - 4.8%: Construction companies will be given a small tax break if they set up solar panels on a newly-constructed building. Solar plants - 11%: Solar plants will be set up in the southern Võru County. Onshore wind - 43.9%: Wind turbines will be built all across the country in various, low-density places. Offshore wind - 36.5%: Wind turbines will be built on Lake Peipus, the northern part of the Gulf of Riga, and The Väinameri Sea. Commercial & government rooftop solar - 3.4%: Same as residential rooftop solar. Government buildings with flat roofs will be required to have solar panels installed. Hydroelectric - 0.1%: Hydroelectric dams will be set up around the Võrtsjärv. Tidal turbines - 0.3%: Tidal turbines will be built on the Gulf of Finland. People are being hired in droves to do these jobs, due to its large project size. The unemployment rate is decreasing quickly, despite its low (but living) wages.
