The Socialists suddenly have a large budget surplus; the Government no longer needs to intervene in order to develop the economy, and it is rapidly transitioning into a service economy. The Economy and Industrial centers are the largest in the World, being able to produce massive numbers of high-quality goods. The SEU has become the USA, but with a lot more infighting. No one can agree where the large surplus should go, and while Stalin secures a good chunk for the military, SEU has decided to spend most of it on Social Welfare programs (although none of the details are ironed out), and to also extensively lower the high taxes the Government has placed to develop the economy. The People shall no longer suffer under high taxation.
The Socialists' Radar is currently in development. While an extremely crude version, it is showing promise. The SEU, directly for this reason has neglected night warfare, viewing it to be unneeded in a world where machines show the way. The SEU is also in the process of creating new types of civilian steel mills, as well as aluminum mills. While their Steel is the best in the World with utterly monstrous quantities, their Aluminum is less so. To remedy this error, an Aluminum development program has been started. India tried to spy on SEU's fancy (well no really terrible but good for the time) radar. The relations are only worsening, and the war stews on.
The pride of the SEU Navy, Myeongnyang, the most powerful Battleship in existence (with the possible exception of her sister ship), has suffered an explosion of one of her lesser magazines. This will put her out of commission for some time, and several hundred sailors were killed. Because she was the star of the Navy (even more so than her sister; Yi Sun-Shin is the one actually being deployed more often and has more maintenance, although Myeongnyang's crew is not untrained by any means), the Public wants answers as to what happened. Many eyes turn towards India, the Caliphate, and the Fascists. India probably had nothing to do with it though; indeed, it seems it might have just been a terrible accident. However, a massive explosion in the defining ship of your navy and the pride of it does not go down well with the Public. After all, she's the ship that is shown in museums, and tours of her inner workings take place all the time. Of course, all the parts being shown are parts that are also available to other nations. The Socialist Party has promised a thorough investigation.
The Caliphate promises they had nothing to do with the Myeongnyang's explosion, The Sultan even personally declared that if they were to blow up a battleship, it would be India's first, and even if a Sunayyad Muslim did blow up the SEU's ship, the Caliphate holds no responsibility and wouldn't care either way (they would be proud, but wouldn't mention it). The Caliphate states that they have no knowledge in the ship's explosion.
It seems to be just an accident. In any case, SEU is holding a fleet review, in defiance. While commonly a SNE/Commonwealth practice, SEU has instead decided to hold one "for the people", broadcasting it on live television and newspapers. In doing so, they are essentially equating the people with the monarch. This is a clear show of force by the Socialists, as the repairs of the Myeongnyang would have coincided with the reconstruction of her, and SEU's Naval capacity has been diminished by the fleet reconstruction program. While their fleet is weakened, they are by no means weak. Many (91, to be exact) Warships will be organized to show the World that SEU is not a weak nation, and is instead a world power in its own right. The ships will be spread out to prevent any one terrorist from destroying all of the ships at once. The Battleships, of which there are currently 8 in service will be spread out over the sea to prevent an attack that destroys the entire SEU Navy at once. The Air Force, having experienced and well trained pilots at its disposal (although the total number of pilots is small, they vastly outclass every other Air Force.), is working with Yakovlev and Ilyushin, both companies that make planes.
Is SEU going to be a mass producer of television and house units and electronics? I was thinking it would be good for Sunayyad to purchase a whole bunch when it becomes popular in the 50s.
It's going to be a hybrid of ths Soviet Union and the United States. So yes, assuming trade opens up by then. It's going to mass produce everything. However, they will (and is already suffering from) extensive infighting, which isn't going to get better unless a War breaks out.
The Socialists have successfully held their review. The might of the SEU Navy was on full display, with Fleet Carriers and Battleships working together to show that it was nothing to scoff at. She waas Now, We the People, one of the SEU's freshly reconstructed Capital Ships, escorted by and escorting a Fleet Carrier, Freedom, move to Panama to guard it, with an escort of 8 Destroyers and 2 Heavy Cruisers. Vladimir Lenin, a Java-Class Battleship, also escorted by fleet carrier Cooperation, as well as fast intercept Battleship Cao Cao is moving to combat the Indian Navy, as they are still in a semi-state of war. Their mission is to disrupt Indian exports.
RESERVED FOR HUNT FOR THE VLADIMIR LENIN (hint, india loses.) Task Force 2, consisting of Battleships Vladimir Lenin and Cao Cao, as well as fleet carrier Cooperation, moves towards the Indian Ocean from a forward base in Indonesia. Their mission is to intercept and sink Indian export ships. Cao Cao, using her superior speed moved into an optimal position to intercept the lightly guarded Indian Convoys. However, her enemies found her first, and in a very bad position. She only had 3 16-inch guns to work with, while her enemies had 4 8-inch and 4 6-inch guns, as well as many Destroyers. Cao Cao's armor was light, rendering her vulnerable to enemy attack. She was battered for several minutes, but she wasn't fast for nothing. Quickly turning, she sank an Indian light Cruiser and 2 Destroyers. The escort fled, leaving the cargo easy pickings. She proceeded to load the entire crew onto lifeboats, submitting a call to Indian authorities to pick up the sailors while the ships they were on burned. This continued for several days, until the Indians deployed 2 of their Capital ships to stop them. Many Indian naval ships were deployed, and they were fast. Faster than the Battleships. The Cao Cao was forced to go slowly, to match the speed of Vladimir Lenin. However, with safety being quite close at just a few hundred kilometers away, and with reliable air cover and heavy armament, the SEU was confident about their chances of getting home with minimal losses. For this reason, Rear Admiral Liu (this guy's going to pop up a lot more) did not maintain Radio Silence. This proved to be a mistake, as this allowed several Indian Heavy Cruisers, 8 Destroyers, and a Battleship to completely surprise TF2. The Heavy Cruisers, while outgunned, had the advantage of sheer numbers and speed. As a result, one of the Heavy Cruisers drove inwards, firing its forward 2 gun turrets while the other Heavy Cruisers and Destroyers harassed the Battleships. However, the 18-inch guns found their aim and fired at the 1 Battleship sent. An artillery duel ensued, but the Indian Battleship was outgunned and she knew it. The citadel armor of the SEU Battleship could resist up to high-quality (caliphate) 16-inch shells, and anywhere else would mean little. Cao Cao, dealing with too many Heavy Cruisers requested air backup. This proved decisive, with the lacking AA of the Cruisers and Destroyers meaning that they were doomed before it started. The encounter ended in a catastrophic Indian defeat, with 2 Destroyers and a Heavy Cruiser being sunk. The Indian Navy regrouped and planned a new attack, while the SEU navy, much wiser, kept radio silence. The Indian Navy, spotting the task force via means of recon aircraft, once again attacked. This time was different, with several 16-inch shells damaging the Battleship Cao Cao. However, it was still very much a SEU victory with the SEU dealing out more than what the Indians gave it. It is a wake-up call for the Indian Navy, that they are outmatched. SEU will soon have its own, for the Army.
Eastern Socialists: GIFT: Gift of Plenty; has virtually unlimited everything to win wars. FLAW: Infighting; keeps fighting each other instead of the enemy. Western Socialists: GIFT: Indirect Gift of Plenty; ditto. Gift of Iron Will; cold hard determination to take suffering. FLAW: Madness; tends to committ atrocities.
Sunayyad Caliphate: GIFT: United by religion, no infighting, growing fast FLAW: Natural Resources and logistics aren't as plentiful
The SEU Army has been defeated by India in a decisive defeat, in one of the most painful defeats to date. SEU had actually executed a good plan and was about to defeat the enemy in detail, but the Indians managed to pierce their intelligence and win. This is a terrible wake-up call. Funding to the Army is being increased.
The Socialist Party is in a state of discord over who shall control it. Iosif Stalin's faction, gaining traction is attractive to the voters, promising a strong military and glory. It is of note he is anti-caliphate. Very. The classic Socialists are losing, having no clear leader, while the Muslims are unable to appeal to the Russians and is in a state of chaos as well. Right now, the SEU is in a state of societal and structural turmoil, as no one is in charge, but everyone wants to be in charge.
Sultan Abiwa has finally gained control over Yemen and Oman, making them Sunayyad states. It was bloody, and civillian deaths were higher than any other annexation in Sunayyad history, some streets were full of blood, yet they are finally under control, any resistence is snuffed out and pubicly executed
The SEU is horrified at this display. Iosif Stalin, earning the position of "People's Leader", effectively an extremely powerful President elected directly by the people in run-off voting, and can be expelled by either referendum (triggered by a certain number of signatures), or expulsion by the People's Congress, once again elected directly be the people. The only thing PL has no jurisdiction over is voting procedures and expulsion procedures. Any attempt to tamper with them will result in immediate trial for treason against the people. This was instituted by command of "H", and kept because a bunch of people tried to repeal it and all died within a week (roughly 1/3 of the people's congress). SEU industries that are nationalized: Healthcare, Water, Electricity, Fuel of all types, education SEU industries that the government has a heavy hand over: Food, Weapons, some vital resources, military shipbuilding. Iosif Stalin has enacted more Pro-Fascist measures, and more Anti-Caliphate measures. The Balkan Federation is being given generous discounts on Socialist Oil, while the SEU is tightening its noose around the Caliphate's steel.
The Federation has finished upgrading their food exports and now make over 3 billion a year on just food exports They have also after the issue of homelessness was brought to their attention they have started building 30 apartment building in each state saying that it may not be much but it's better than nothing Construction estimated to take 2 years this will cut down homelessness by at least 30 percent
SEU has proposed more cooperation with the Baltic Federation, citing concerns about the fact that SEU's northern flank is relatively undefedened against invaders. SEU wants BF cooperation with the top secret "Main Battle Tank" project, which will produce OOC: the T-34. In addition, SEU will export weapons to the BF.
OOC: What tank should the Caliphate even produce? There's literally nothing at all. Panzers are kind of off the board, same with the Churchill, no russian vehicles, no chinese, only thing that's open is USA, but it wouldn't really make sense unless I produce a copy with a different name and origin entirely.
