FEEDBACK: Wither Skeletons Spawning

Discussion in 'Community Discussion' started by Aikar, Dec 8, 2013.

  1. Here is the kill spot of a wither Skeleton farm: https://i.imgur.com/oRFeQ4J.png

It overlays the spawning areas of a Fortress so to build one you have to remove the Fortress. The only thing that makes Fortress mobs spawn afterwards is the server's data that shows that a Fortress was originally there. That is what has been lost in smp3's case and could be lost elsewhere. The farm is maybe only a quarter of the work because you need to do lots of this to make it work right: https://i.imgur.com/q85Ob.jpg

So I currently have some decisions to make. Wait to see if things can be fixed so it works again, go to another Fortress on the same server or another server and hope it doesn't happen again, or forget it altogether.

  2. Yes. But that's cause there's no nether brick in it, right. So it's obvious that such farms stopped working and untouched(or at least not completely taken down)fortresses still work. But I think it is also possible to make a farm while including enough nether brick for them to keep spawning. I understand that you won't be happy to do such a big part over though.
  3. Nether brick makes no difference http://imgur.com/a/WCm1D The last image is my gold farm the nether brick pads are the original block's that spawned with the fort.

  4. Well.. Then I just wasted 2 hours watching that video :p
  5. Not wasted. Learning redstone and village mechanics, which could then be applied to make yourself an iron farm nearly as large as chickeneers...
  6. well i think if could be possible, doubtful but i think there is one possible way but a very low chance that it will work
  7. I think chickeneer's is just a 36 cell farm.. Just like the normal cells just a huge amount of them :p

  8. Spawn On Netherbrick!!!!
  9. Aikar did anything ever happen with this?
  10. Maybe, cause they are doing witch huts now, and they said they were going to do that after nether fortresses
  11. wither generation was not rlly affected they still spawn normally although rates have gone down in some places supposedly. witch farms however are still busted
  12. No, because Nether generation didn't change, so likely nothing will happen with this until an update where nether generation does change.
  13. It has gone down, there is a significant difference in spawning between a 1.7 fort and a fort that is in the original generated terrain.

  14. No significant change...

Every Wither Skeleton farm I know of on smp3 is broken. As in: B R O K E N. As in does not work anymore. The two I was using have been broken since 1.6 and there are four others that I have confirmed. There is not one on smp3 I know of that works any more. I see that as a significant change.

The server data that says "There is a Fortress here, so spawn Fortress mobs." was lost and all that spawns there now are Pigmen. That's "no significant change" for people on other servers I guess. There is nothing to keep it from happening again and on any server, so maybe once this happens to more people opinions will change. I'm sure this happening on a server like smp1 or 9 would go over well.

I can understand the hesitancy to make the changes that have been discussed here, but without some sort of assurance of permanency Wither Skeleton farms are going to be a potential waste of time anywhere on EMC. It's been months for me and I still have not convinced myself that it is worth it to go farther out or to another server and spend three weeks building and slabbing a new one just to see it happen again.
  15. mine still works.... and the one on utopia still works....
  16. I know one on SMP7 that currently isn't working.
  17. Is it on smp3? As long as yours works it's all good then, right? Let me know when you have some time to look at mine and I'll show you what may potentially happen to them as long as things remain as they are.
