EMC's Day of Equality (and a Giveaway)

  1. This is an interesting topic I could see us discussing in game some time! For my response, look at the name. Does earth have any organs? Let's look at the definition of organism.

    or·gan·ism
    ˈôrɡəˌnizəm/Submit
    noun
an individual animal, plant, or single-celled life form.
synonyms: living thing, being, creature, animal, plant, life form
    "fish and other organisms"

Look at the synonyms. An organism is a "living being, creature, animal, plant, life form." Earth is not alive. It may do things an organism does like the water cycle, but it lacks basic things something an organism has. Consciousness, the need to eat, drink, waste, and to put the nail in the coffin, reproduce. the earth is simply a rock floating in space. You can think of it like a house. Your house isn't alive, it is simply a shelter for humans, just as the earth is a shelter for all of the equal beings on it. As for your ideology of animals being equal to humans, do you then believe all LIVING beings are equal? I agree, animal abuse is a terrible thing, but would you look at a flower like you look at a human? Would you look at a parasitic single-called organism the same way you look at a human? Would you now also look at something like a fish or a snail or a fly the same way you look at a human? I don't want to seem mean to animals, but I'll leave you with this quote.
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal then others."
    -George Orwell, Animal farm.
  2. I'm sorry, but this thread got so many new posts, that I won't be able to read them (for now). I wanted to finish an assignment, so it's much later than usual when I check EMC. I hope Krysyy can get through everything. ;)

Edit: I am a bit confused by Krysyy not having liked my entry, even though it does comply with the assignment, and I wasn't mentioned in the post that listed non-valid entries...
Edit, a day later: She now has! :)

  3. Equality is a lie told by people to fulfil their own self image and self confidence. The idea of equality leads people into the ideas that create false hope. The idea that their will be no hierarchy created with the few at the top is and the many struggling at the bottom in a large society of humans is virtually 0%. I hate to break it to you but no matter where you go your the victim or the oppressor to someone else in this world. The more ' equality ' this world contains the quicker and more extreme measures other humans will go to too climb above everyone else to put themselves at the top of the hierarchy and it's not a straight forward pyramid as people may think of like the food chain it's more diverse and with the population today the higher you climb the less rights and ability you have over controlling yourself. The idea of equality is idealistic and is an impossible goal. While we can act to improve and help those around us get into a better situation doesn't mean their will ever be full equality. As humans our actions will never result in equality as we are all different and what we do doo for others willingly satisfies our own morals according to our own social and emotional desires. If you wish to know examples of 'equality' look at socialism, Russia would be a good start

  4. First off, a frame of reference... I will be talking about civil rights in Canada and the USA. Since I am Canadian I can't really speak for the rest of the world due to my lack of in-depth knowledge of their state of affairs, or their lack of certain civil rights which I am aware of. Also, I am defining Real discrimination as the type that prevents you from entering certain establishments based on ethnicity or beliefs, prevented you from getting a job, prevented you from getting a home in a particular area (or preventing you from getting one at all), prevents you from getting a regular meal, or gets you Physically beaten, harmed or directly threatens your life. Being an ethnic minority in Canada, although simultaneously being born Canadian, I have had ethnic slurs and racial jokes thrown at me and my family throughout my 40 some years of life, and I can say that those are just taunts intended to hurt your feelings. The words may upset you, but they cannot Really harm you. I've gotten both the slurs and the beatings when I was younger, and I'd honestly prefer the slurs to the beatings any day. LOL! That said, on to my speal.

We (people living in Canada and the USA) should be happy that we are at a state where were we really have not had to face Real head-on discrimination from the late 1980s until about 2016. Thanks to the efforts of those in the civil rights movements from the 1960s and the changing of peoples hearts over time, all through the 1980s, we truly live in countries where any nationality is welcome when we go through the right channels. Women have had more rights in these countries (and in most parts of Europe) than anywhere in the world. Canada and the USA are truly pillars of tolerance and equal opportunity for those once considered the underdog. I must say, however, that it is sad to see the children of the same people who fought for an gain proper civil rights for All, completely turn it on its head to where the children of the once proud majority are shamed for and discriminated against for the transgressions of their ancient ancestors (and I'm not talking about their grandparents, but rather the cousin twice removed of their ancestor who lived in the 17th or 18th century, during a time where many nations were constantly at war. Remember that the Europeans were not the only conquerors; this happened in Asia, Africa, and what is now the Americas (with the nations that first lived here) as well. This past year or two, we went through so much political change in such a short time, that it not only allowed the return of racial, and religious segregation, but it introduced new forms of segregation that were unheard of before, while attempting to normalize some forms of integration that were once known to be perverse and dangerous. I won't go into details, but most of us adults who keep abreast of the poltical situation in the USA and Canada know what I am talking about. Things have now gone to the other extreme. Canada has gone even more to the extreme left than ever before. Logic and reason have gone out the window to the point where groups like Antifa are an oxymoron given their names and what the Actually do.

Equal rights to me was what we had back in the mid 1990s; a Balance! The 1990s experienced a time of well balanced moderation. Logic and reason reigned. (The Canadian Media was becoming increasingly biased in its politics, but there was nothing that was really that detrimental.) Whether you lean slightly left or slightly right, when your country comes to a state of moderation is when its people, and the nation as a whole, experience the least turbulent times. Equal rights is not just having equal opporunities in life, but recognizing our differences and trying to understand them within reason, without mere emotional zealousness. At the same time, while tolerance to free speech and thought is necessary, we must be able to set limits on acceptance of certain ideas if they do not fit logic and reason, regardless of who says them.

Okay... I am getting way too long winded here. LOL!

Equal Rights to me means equal opportunity (not equity) in the work place, in commerce, at the market, and in the law; not over mere words nor appearances, but over actions and merit. Let us truly live out the dream of that great man... The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
  5. In a simple way to put it, equality to me is not having to worry about where you live and what others think; to be given equal opportunity to aquire beneficial life experiences

  6. Equality means to me, that no matter what your race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief or disability, you deserve to be treated with the same respect and expectations as everyone else on this planet. Equality is something many of us are still striving to achieve, but I hope that one day, every person will judge someone not based on their labels and appearance, but on their own interactions with that person.

  7. Guess I missed the deadline, but Im still happy to share something positive :)
The world is vast and no matter where you drop by life will be totally different. And with that what people hope and wish for differs as well. Ideally equality means to me that everyone has equal chances to be happy as he seems fit, rather than that we all have the same things.

  8. I know I missed the deadline but I still wanted to put my 2 cents in. Equality... In the military it doesn't matter what race, religion, place of origin or background you have... Everyone has their job to do and in the field that means counting on any and everyone to do their part and to have each other's back all the time. Equality means every does their part and everyone treats everyone else with the same respect because all of us brothers and sisters "Bleed Green" when defending this country. That's all I got to say about that.

  10. We are all humans, don't ever forget that. But don't use that as a mandate to harm no-humans. All life is precious, never forget that either.

  11. Equality to me is being able to to the same things that other people can, or at least being given the same opportunities. Nobody has to do the same thing as someone else, but I think that as long as they have the opportunity to do so without being criticized, it'll be okay.

  12. There was much more post-modernism in this thread than I expected. But then I remembered the percentage of our players that are tweens/teens/young adults who may or may share the archetypal "brooding" view of the world they are still new to and not fully aware of. Either way, thanks for the intention of all this Krysyy; there are parts of it there are lifting to the spirit.

  13. Equality is treating everyone with the respect, kindness, and fairness you want from others, no matter their sexality, gender, ethnicity, or any way in which they may be different from you. For me it is knowing my privileges and knowing there are others who don't have those privileges, but it is also knowing the privileges I do not have. Equality isn't something we can be passive about at this point in time, it is something that needs awareness, it needs people to think about injustices and empathise with others, and to be selfless. Equality is something everyone can fight for.

  14. Deadline in 7 mins!!!
  15. You're so kind. Even though we're not supposed to build in the waste you alert everyone a week in advance with signs everywhere, and even though this post is a few days old we still have this seven minute warning... xD

  16. I think that equality means more than just the social norm of society. I truly believe that everyone should be born into this world as equal as the next person and it should be their given right as a person to pursue any path they want in life without hindrance on another person making them feel less than they are.

    Equality in a short skit

Peter: hey! Are you moving? Are you a thing? Do you see this?

Dave: uh, I see stuff. I am not sure what it is. It is kind of confusing, kinda scary.

Peter: RIGHT? what is this? Do you see me? What even is me?

Dave: I see you. What are we doing here?

Peter: you tell me I dont know.

Dave: well... whatever it is that we are doing or arent doing... will you do it with me?

    Peter: right on.

We are all in this life together. We all exist. Thats about where equality ends but it really is the only part that matters. Life is weird. It hurts. It can be scary and hard sometimes.

Life did this wonderful thing to make up for all that though, it put me here. It put her here. It put him here.

You dont have to do it alone. No one has to do it your way. We will all do it differently but we are all here.

So, just take my hand and lets do it together.
