I haven’t had a chance to hop on yet, but thanks for this update! The work that went towards it is much appreciated and while it’ll take some time to get used to (for me and all of us)! I think it’ll result in more players staying, too. Quite a number of new players head to the wild and try to talk and ask for help, and prior to this update, they’d have been stuck in local chat with a likely chance of no one being around to return chat, and being unaware of how to PM, many tended to leave. With this it’s less of a worry, and more players can help out new players with their questions and just get to talk all around. While it’s change and it’ll take some time to get used to, I think it’ll help the community and help EMC grow, in size and in the strength of the community. I think this will end up being a good change in the end, and I’m excited to watch it play out. Thanks!
I see what you're going for with the update, and maybe new players will stick around more because of it, which would certainly be worth it. All I'm saying is that it's making the wilderness less wild. Part of the deal with going to the wild is the lack of town privileges, I mean, if we don't want to force isolation why not just make all town commands work in the wild? /vault, /mail, teleportation, all of that. I'm sure the new players would love that to, not being able to vault and teleport in the wild is a pain. But of course we don't want that because the wild is wild, not like all the servers with regular unoriginal worlds were everything is available. Any time I have access to town chat (in town or as a supporter) I welcome new players and see if they need anything when they join, as many of my friends do as well. Granted, the majority of them leave without saying anything anyway but that's besides the point. I don't want to argue, I appreciate all the world you put into making EMC the best server around, I just wanted to let you know what I thought, and I will now let it go. Thanks for everything you do.
The wild is about survival and risk. Chat does not relate to those elements, where as /vault and such does. And those players you welcomed, you wouldn't of had that opportunity if they immediately went to the wild (they wouldn't of saw your message) Now you can
Great update guys, this will definitely help new players! I've had to chase them into the frontier to greet them on more than one occasion. (Yay live maps!) The wild/waste town chat was the primary reason for being an Iron Supporter for me -- with this now the default for everyone, are there any plans to add anything to the Iron tier, or shuffle things around between tiers, to make that more appealing to people like little old me?
Being on EMC for a long time, this is a HUGE help. It's much more clear and the Community Chat being open to all, no matter your location, will be VERY useful in the coming time. Thanks to Aikar, The Devs, and the Staff for fixing (and implementing things to make EMC better for everyone!
This has to been one of the greatest updates, even if it's simple. I won't be lonely whilst I'm at my outpost This will also very much help newplayers if they need questions e.t.c so thanks a bunch for this! And with every update comes a bug right?! You cannot use /c m in the wild which seems a bit odd, I don't know if that was intentional or not, although if you use /c c in the frontier and post a link to an auction the filter will kick in and change it to the market chat although the people in town see your link but you actually can't.
This is an amazing update, one of which I'm fully convinced will appeal to many players. This makes the server truly come alive more, I'm convinced of that. The only thing I am probably going to miss out on are the one letter combos. Those made it really easy to chat within different channels (@t hello, @r ok, everyone here?) and having to type out the entire name defeats that purpose. But we'll see how it goes. This will truly bond the community a lot more.... Examples? Why sure.... "Awww, ffs creeper blew up all my stuff (( (insert many !'s )". Assuming we're talking about a new(er) player all he would have seen is what Aikar showed us. Now we all get to hear about his misfortune. And for the record: no, I am not being cynical or whatever here. See: there is a huge difference between a player telling you right from the moment it happened that they got into a bit of bad luck in comparison to a player who suddenly pops up in town chat with "I lost all my stuff". The first would definitely urge me to try and lend a helping hand, even if it's only to tell 'm about the awesome compass which they can use to get their stuff back. The second always keeps me a bit on toe because... "Are they being honest or just trying to get free stuff?". See? That's a game changer for me. And I know there are more players who think just like me about these kinds of things. This is awesome! And I'm still going to get gold next week. "Because". Oh, right, for people wondering "but this takes away some of the support advantages"... Yes and no. Sure, people who don't really want to support might now be less motivated to support. But that's just the type of player, and most of all: you shouldn't think bad about it either because in a way that player still helps to make the Empire more fun for others, even if it's but a small part. Thing is: who is going to support you if many players get confused and run off? Players who are having a good time will be much more inclined to support than players who only, well... go for the goodies and nothing more. AND... there's still Shell chat Soon to get alive again on SMP2 Pardon me for saying this but that's why a wiki is normally a team effort. With the right people working on the team I'm convinced that you could easily sort this out within one day, especially during the weekend. Considering there's a contribution team in effect I have to admit that it sounds a bit weird to me that it now all seems to depend on 1 individual. On that subject: didn't the contribution team have 2 leaders? I'm not trying to be negative here, but comments like these do give me the strong impression that the contribution team's full potential is hardly being used. And I can back up this claim by referring to the Minecraft wiki snapshot pages. You'd be surprised to learn how few (but motivated) people get work done on those in a very short timespan. And all on a voluntary basis. With qualified people and a healthy motivation that could also easily apply to the Empire wiki.
Hash and Krysyy are referencing a little running joke in modchat from when this was announced. It's actually being done quite quickly and there are a few other people helping so far. Also Fendy is working on some IRL things currently so I would imagine Krysyy just mentioned me since these changes will need to be made quite soon
That's only for moderators, though, the rest can still use the one letter combos, I'm pretty sure. Anyway: great update! This makes the chance of me once playing on EMC again a bit larger... but reduced the chance of me ever getting supporter by even more. Can you not do single-time donations anymore? Like, you used to get rupees for them and you don't anymore, but can't you do a donation still and just not get rupees for it?
I feel this will be really great for new members as well. Many seek help when just starting but in the wild would always have been greeted with no replies. This seems much more like community. Thanks for all the great changes!
I think this is fantastic and will help encourage the community as a whole, brilliant great stuff guys great stuff
