Hey I live in Colorado and I call it pop! or soft drink... rarely soda.... U invaders to my state are calling it wrong!!!!!!!!!
I say soda, even though my "accent" is more from Ohio and there everyone says pop. I also say crayon as "cran" instead of "cray-on". Some people where I live even say like "crown" and I'm what the heck is a crown. Like other people have said, in the South it's called a coke no matter what kind of soda you want. Colorado as "call-ah-rad-oh" or "call-ah-rah-do" anyone? I say the first one but apparently that's "wrong". It all depends on where you're from.
Is good to see most of EMC says it correctly "soda" but also sad that lots of staff call it pop...how am I supposed to trust you ? D: hehe I've heard someone on TV call it fizzy drink and thought that sounded cool so I'll sometimes say that when I want a soda but not sure what kind I'll just say "get me a fizzy drink"
Yeah my mom spent her teenage years in Ohio so she talks like that but she lives here in PA now so we've taught her the correct way to say it
You can use both words together (soda pop) or use each word separately. The modern name for soda pop is just soda. or high fructose corn syrup
Want some pop whipper snapper? I say Soda or just the name of the drink. why do you have to make such a big deal about it lol
It's pop, period. If you call it soda, we are no longer of the same tongue. If you call it coke, we are no longer friends and/or of the same species.
How else is it pronounced... It isn't pronounced like pope. I can't think of any other way than "pahp or pahhp" On a side note, Crayon only sounds best pronounced cran.
In german speaking countries - if you order "soda", you'll get just plain water with CO2, either bottled or made at the bar. For flavored one you need to order "lemon soda" ("Soda Zitron"). For mineral water, you need to say "mineral water" and they will usually ask you "with or without gas?". If you order "water" you'll get bottled water (expensive), but you can also order "tap water" which you'll mostly get for free. If you order coke, you'll get Coca-Cola, if you want Pepsi you need to say so.
This makes sense to me; coke is short for Coca-Cola, so why get anything else? *shakes head despairingly at southern places that call everything a coke*
