  1. Hello,

I have absolutely no idea why you can't lock items in the Wastelands, but I think it's because the Wastelands reset periodically with little warning. This means that locked items are a "waste" because they'll be reset anyway. To solve that problem, let's have a giant red message that comes up:

WARNING: You've locked an item in the Wastelands. This world resets periodically and you may lose the item when it does. Be sure to remove the locked item before the world rests.
To see the next scheduled reset, visit events.emc.gs.
You have been charged 500r for locking an item in the Wastelands. Remove the sign within 30 seconds for a full refund.

Currently, there is no way to protect items in the Wastelands, which makes mining at events such as FNM risky, as the moment you leave someone could raid your house. An enderchest helps, but doesn't solve the problem at all. For one, an enderchest can be stolen and only offers a 27 storage slots - not nearly enough for anything, really. Secondly, there's more to lock than chests. Beacons, for example, make for nice griefing targets. It'd be nice to be able to mine/play without worrying that someone's going to steal your stuff every few minutes.

So if people want to take the risk to lock items (they'll get half the money back) then let them - locked items are the only real protection in the Wild, and it's a complete free-for-all in the Wastelands with no hope of protecting anything.

So, does this seem like something that we could see in the future? I briefly remembered this being tabled for later discussion but I'm not sure on that (It's 2:17 am and I'm almost unconscious here).

I have tried to lock beacons in the waste before with the same error message and why would I leave something out in the open worth 20k (which I can make back fast but thats not the point), I would rather it be protected.

  5. I like the idea! Of course you can use an enderchest which gives you a little bit of protection, but if you're doing some serious mining (just manual labor with your pickaxe) then there's only so much you can dump in there ;)

    It would definitely help.

  6. I like it. :) As long as there is a prominent warning message, I see no reason that chests/items shouldn't be as protected in the wastelands as they are in the Frontier. I definitely would've used this back in my miniboss-hunting days. :)

  8. Yes, +(insert large number here) Because what happened at FNM last night turned it from a Fun event for all, to well, the opposite

  13. I do agree that it is dumb. I rarely use the Waste, but I have tried to lock a chest there once. It is dumb that you can't lol

  14. No, it's not. There's more to lock than chests. Beacons, for example.
  15. Wasn't even the only time that run; someone dug up some of me and deltic's sky-garden right in front of BlackKnight.
Enderchests can be stolen (the items in them can't but the chest itself can) and they can only hold half of what a locked doublechest can. Also their is a whole host of items that can be locked besides chests

It would be worth 500r ( it cost 1000r to lock something but you get 500r back after destroying the sign) per FNM run to able to lock a chest/beacon/enchanting table and not have watch every player that wanders in to make sure they don't make off with anything.

  17. So this was brought up again recently and this thread was linked in that discussion. Re-reading over the thread, I realized that it sucks. A re-write is needed. First, I still believe this is a good idea, but I have some improvements to the message: Instead of:

WARNING: You've locked a chest in the Wastelands. This world will be reset periodically and you WILL lose your rupees used to lock the chest if you don't remove it.

    Have this message:

WARNING: You've locked an item in the Wastelands. This world resets periodically and you may lose the item when it does. Be sure to remove the locked item before the world rests.
To see the next scheduled reset, visit events.emc.gs.

You have been charged 500r for locking an item in the Wastelands. Remove the sign within 30 seconds for a full refund.

Basically clarifies things a bit more. The green message could use some work to make it similar to the lock message, but I don't know that off the top of my head.

Second: the cost. While I don't think the price needs to decrease (and definitely not increase), it'd be nice to lock items for half the cost. It'd make locking items more affordable for players to are going on a casual mining trip and want to lock a beacon, chest, or so on. 500r deposit, 250r when returned.

And third: the support. Seems pretty obvious to me but doesn't hurt to add some pros of the feature in there.

Also removed my self-pity from the OP. ;)
