Netheric Studies Charter and Recruitment

  1. Haha this looks like a nice idea, but since I find all things tree boring, I don't think I'll apply. Keep up the good work.

  2. The reasons I might make an exception have already been hinted at. I will spell them out clearly below. But first: while I understand it's not comfortable to be told that your age might be a limiting factor, it is a matter of practicality as Dragonhawk32 has mentioned above. Also if you want to make your own outpost that allows all applicants in, you're free to do so, just as I'm allowed to set whatever membership requirements for my outpost. I believe mine are reasonable. But that should hardly come as a surprise as I made the entrance requirements.

Possible reasons for an age exception:
    • I know you well enough to know for fact that you embody the values spelled out in the charter.
    • Other players that I trust implicitly (current members, honorary members, EMC staff, others...) know you well enough to vouch for you, and can say for fact that you will be a great asset and will conduct yourself maturely.
I have already granted one age exception because I know the person well enough, and have seen how he conducts himself in town chat. I just didn't know he was under 18 until he told me so in a private conversation. I would have guessed him to be older than 18 based on his behavior. I will likely also be granting a second age exception. I know and implicitly trust another player (now full member) who recommended inviting him to join.
So, as you see, it's not impossible to get an exception based on age. Just conduct yourself in a manner that aligns itself with the core values of the outpost charter, regardless of who you're interacting with, in game or on the forums. Get to know me and other key members of the outpost. And be patient.

  3. heh, fixed this for you lol
In the future, you can click "report" on the main post and ask for it there, or preferably, PM some of the online staff :)
  4. Thank you!
  5. Interesting, just I'm not a fan of monarchy :)

How comes that this sounds sooo familiar? ;)

  6. Do you too like to collect lava into buckets M4nic? ;)

  7. I'm assuming he was referencing The Volt Who Got Banned But Was Unbanned Later And Ran The New Republic And Concordia Plus A Billion Other Things And Planned A Billion More Who Was Banned For Planning To Build A Lava Wall Around SMP5 Wild Spawn But Then Unbanned As I Said.
    :p
  8. I'm not sure why it sounds familiar. :)

And my plan is to be the benevolent monarch (cast tie breaking votes, only if needed) and to delegate authority to others with the skills and interest in using it wisely. For example, I'm horrid at visual design. I will rely on others on the team for this. I will trust them over me on questions of material selection and construction...etc.

Also, as I get to know more and more about peoples skills I'll be making fewer and fewer decisions all by my lonesome. :) I expect this to grow into being a collective with a core set of leadership, rather than staying a monarchy. I'm already putting Wiskycoo in charge of the visuals for an item in the Secret Agenda. And yes, technically I will be able to eject members, overrule people...etc. at will... but that would be too disruptive to do without consultation among my trusted core team... so far that's everyone on the team. :)

If you would like to talk further one on one, please start a "conversation" with me/email me. :)

  9. No server wide / outpost wide lava walls planned for SMP6. :) I can reveal that much about the Secret Agenda. I don't want to be banned and will not knowingly ask anyone to do something that can get them banned. :)

I will make the Secret Agenda available for all staff to read, should they want to.

  10. Well now it would be interesting to see how players get around that one! (If there weren't staff):)

  11. I've gotten around/through "naturally" generated lava walls... By building. I'm not saying I didn't die several times in the process. :-P

But then again I'm a bit of a lava-fiend. Just ask RaiinNL. :)
  12. Quite easy to get around lava with adequate brewing knowledge ;)

  13. Hmm, I think I made a post here but its not here anymore? (another post)
  14. This is very far off topic. Please contact staff about concerns about the forums system.
  15. Haha you can't build in the spawn.
I guess "adequate brewing knowledge" would be the only way.
  16. What is wonderful about minecraft is that there is seldom, if ever, "only one way." Since the lava would have to touch spawn to be most problematic that would mean it would be trivial to build a 3 block wide by 3 block high tunnel through the lava, starting by placing blocks into the unprotected area. Once the lava falls into the protected area it's not as harmful. It will take minutes to die -- I've done this in peaceful mode on single player games. And there is usually some water around. So it'll be a visual impediment within spawn, but that's it.

Oh, and Yes. Death is guaranteed while doing this once you need to step out of the spawn protection zone. But it is possible. So, it looks like there are at least two ways.

And since the Nether and lava are closely related, I would be delighted to see other ways people can think of to get through such an obstacle.

    So far we have
    1) the resource intensive, but easy way -- brewing
    2) The beligerant dwarfish way - tunnel building and repeated dying.

(Yes I know it's off topic, but this is a fun mental challenge. All I ask is people stay polite, and either address this aside or matters related to the main subject of recruitment)
  17. Fire resistance potions!
  18. I updated my reply so it's a bit longer now. And fire resistance is what I assumed the "adequate knowledge" bit meant. :)

My whole point is there is more than one way. Knowledge is the key to SMP play in MC. I mean what do you do if you're in a situation where you need to do this, but can't get FR potions for an hour or two? give up? make the hour trip back? Perhaps those are fine for you... but I'm ... stubborn. I find other ways to get the job done. :)
