  2. I completely agree with Aikar's post about Mojang killing Minecraft with its constant additions for adventure maps (AKA Singleplayer) and have put literally nothing out there for multiplayer. I used to play singleplayer maps and enjoy it more than anything, and then I found EMC. EMC has become my home. No other multiplayer servers can bring me the same feeling EMC does. I use singleplayer maps to design buildings and decorations for my EMC residences. I wish Mojang would slow down a bit on the new blocks and terrain and do something new for multiplayer servers.

  3. I love this server so much its a awesome server and good job keeping it that way :)

  4. You could also maybe try to add a server where it is modded with your own personal mod pack like a tekkit mod pack which fine tunes the server to your personal preferences.
  5. At least for now, EMC will only require a vanilla client. There are currently no plans to add any servers that require clientside mods.

  6. I have a awesome idea that might help :) I made this up earlier on my server that i don't use as often,
loot maps: its always night time and, there are loots you can find in the worlds. and these loots are hidden in every place here and there. Pretty cool idea right?
  7. The only thing I think is an issue here is the empires/guilds.
While the idea sounded great, it became bad into opinion with the whole "claiming land in the wild thing".
In my opinion this would completely destroy what makes the wilderness great, a place where you go out and do whatever wherever (almost) with person claiming a place and saying it's mine, not yours. I personally don't want to go out be restricted by areas others have claimed. Other than that, I love this future, keep up the good work Aikar!

  8. I personally agree with this, but thought "Oh well, let's see how it turns out"
  9. So far, the empires have been though out with policies to ensure that any claimed land will be thousands of blocks away from other empires and wild outposts, so you will never feel restricted in terms of movement in the wild :)

  10. On the whole Empires thing:
Is there absolutely ANY reason that a "move" flag is necessary?
I have wracked my brain for a long while now... Nothing stands to reason, for me.
Why create invisible barriers to PUBLIC land beyond these locations?
The ability to "move" is harmless in itself, and hindering movement is irrational.
If someone manages to go all the way to your base and wants to ADMIRE or merely PASS THROUGH your work, why stop them?
Absolutely no one should be REQUIRED TO GO AROUND someones location to get to their intended destination!

If enough effort was put in, Minecraft borders can be artificially created on the entire map.
Mind you, this would require a very large coordinated effort, but the possibility still stands...
If I hit an invisible barrier, it better be because I hit the edge of the MINECRAFT world, not the border of someone else's town. It's nonsense if this is the reality and not an irrational fear.

Now, I do agree build/destroy/eggify/use/tnt/lava/fire etc. should be toggleable as they can be used to harass other players... but, "move" is irrational.
  11. I had no intentions of allowing move false in the wild =P

  12. No further Empires rants from me. :)

How exactly do you see Empires functioning?
My ideal system is player destruction protection only, within current EMC policy/environment...
Multiplayer Minecraft with the EMC flavor enhancement.

On phone, plan to expand this if I don't feel the full information is covered...

Basically, what I love about Singleplayer survival in the wild is the "Player vs. Environment"/"Environment vs. Player" aspect. The only thing missing from the Single player option is the ability to build and share the experience, hence the reason I joined in the Multiplayer portion of the game. The ONLY thing I HATE about it is the wanton disrespect of some people, or "griefing" as it is called. I love that lava, lightning, fire, creepers and zombies (vs. doors) can destroy my stuff. It makes the experience Legos with monsters and "weather", which is the whole reason I played Minecraft in the first place.

I wholeheartedly appreciate the effort put in by server owners everywhere to limit and deal with "griefers". I stuck with EMC because the formula is done right.
Without EMC, I wouldn't play Minecraft anymore. I am bored of Singleplayer. I dislike Mojang's direction of development, to a degree. It has strong points but not correcting the faults of the original code, to this day, is what has turned me off on Jeb_ and the rest of the team.
Once Mod API is out, I might just learn Java more passionately and develop my own mods for personal use to improve my personal experience...
Key points of issue for me: Graphics handling, Inventory Management, Minimap. - I solve these with 3 distinct mods and now I can't because Mojang keeps churning out crap code every single week... Optifine, Inventory Tweaks, Rei's Minimap. These 3 things could be done in-house with a few hours work and forever fix this broken platform.
I no longer look at Mojang as the game maker, they are the platform developer.
The Minecraft community took over the reigns as game developers long ago.

I think this is more a Mojang rant than an Empires discussion... Oh well, the point has been made to some degree either way. ;)

TL;DR - Aikar, I love your work. Mojang, I am disappointed. Mod API, please come to fruition before I give up...

  13. The details regarding claiming, expanding, etc. is still not finalized. But obviously it will use Residences (and its features), primary purpose of them is to limit who can access chests/destroy blocks in your Empire. Flag control will be different than town, but still managed by 1 owner - admin flag will probably still be an option though for people wanting multiple managers of permissions.

  14. I am not concerned about the claiming/expanding process as that is confirmed at the core yes/no question. I.E. "Will I be able to claim land? / Will it be further expandable?" Yes. / Implied.
I am not concerned with a release date. I prefer to it to be polished vs. released today. It is coming, that is enough to satisfy my needs.
I just wonder if my desires match Aikar's vision. :)
Putting my desires into intelligible words is very difficult, as it is more of the feeling than the logistics I struggle with explaining...
  15. Survival element is still going to be there, I'm not too keen on the idea of removing monsters...

But there will be new "Empire Flags" that you can set a flag for every member in the empire and even different ranks of the empire.

So permission control for the Empire land will be super easy.

  16. theres gotta be mobs else its kinda pointless they're a massive part of the wild the hole land claiming is just for protection from griefers and as a kinda 'border' for a village/outpost type thing this will be great :)

  17. Seems we are nearly on the same thought process then. The whole reason I like town is for expressing creativity publicly, though my efforts are quite lacking... I actually intend to build a pretty item on my plot and then move to the wild, regardless of the status of Empires.
I regret tearing down and leaving my original SMP1 plot... That took me forever to make, and I never even finished it... Oh well. I will do it on a smaller scale and be done with it. :)

I want a castle. With a moat. Archer towers. Lava curtains (to simulate hot oil), etc. - Minecraft makes my love of Age of Empires more realistic, on the level I want it to be. :)

Basically, I will need to post signs on the entire perimeter of my castle to warn of the obvious Mob Traps that will be able to affect players who activate the triggers. I will not be able to do much in the way of automation until such time as the land claiming comes into effect, of course. :) Otherwise, I fear my pressure plates and trip wires would be stolen.
  18. I can't wait to be able to claim areas out in the wild! More dungeons would be epic. You could have like different levels and each level gets harder with more mobs to fight. Then with each level you complete your prize for beating the level could get even higher! Just imagine giant cities out in the wild with multiple players in them. There could also be little small farm towns with big crop fields.

I might be 20 by the time all this could potentially come out, but I don't care, because I'm Lovin' It!
  19. As long as we keep all the present stuff, even make it better, dat's all right with me :)
  20. I just saw this... Why do we need a second currency? I feel like we're just mimicking other servers with minigames, earnable currency and rewards with that currency. Isn't the point of EMC to be DIFFERENT from those servers? More attraction will be towards the minigames.
The smps will become less useful, because our main attraction will be minigames.
And to be honest, I will never support this server again if I can just earn the perks.

Talk about Mojang killing Minecraft.. lol.

    Sorry for the semi-big bump.
