Wasteland's Experiment

  1. There is /v iulti and /v +bulk on smp8, and there's also m4ster_m1ner on smp6 (though I can't remember the res tag or number).

Edit: m4ster_m1ner's is /v +mm on smp6. Not sure how I managed to forget that.

  2. Awesome post Roslyn! And oh so true, too many players totally ignore (or forget?) the spoils one can get from a bit of mining and... well.. actually playing the game.

Edit: There's something else which you proved with this experiment (something very interesting too!). Even though we're very near to a wasteland reset (in 11 days at the time of writing: scheduled for the 29th of Februari 2016) there's still plenty of stuff to gather and sell. I think that accounts for something as well!

True that. I haven't been as active checking out shops as I used to, so my experience is limited to smp2 right now, but there we have 2 larger stores which also buy stuff: /v +poof, and /v +ssrc. Of course this might require the use of your /vault (10r for 5 minutes, should be enough to transport).

But if you really want to make some money then why not try and set up your own shop?
  3. Quartz Ore.... I've mined 7 DCs in a week and made a million in a month for two months...

Awesome post, though. Always nice to know the math behind EMC. :)

  4. Azoundria has a shop on every smp I think. I know it's 8811 on smp4, but I don't know any of the other smps.

  5. 12221 on smp6 tries to have best buy-prices and lowest margin, so you can sell the stuff and buy what you need at minimal cost.

I did experiment too: get wood from /waste in rather lazy mood, no stress.
I've timed the whole process, including taking needed equipment (cheap diamond axe E3 U3), opening live map, finding a forest near an outpost, getting there, cutting trees, fighting back when monsters attacked, getting back to the town, unloading.

20 minutes for almost 20 stacks, only around half of the max theoretical efficiency.
    Selling price 220r/stack, around 13k / hour.

  6. Didn't want to make another thread for this next segment. So this is for your intermediate EMC'er or semi experienced Minecrafter. The Nether!

Did this little bit in just 62 - 63 minutes, depending on the few moments I had to take a phone call.
Not sure what everyone values their quartz blocks at but Im gonna pick a simple price of 40 rupees a block. So that'll be around 28k - 29k around for this trip (only including the quartz). Pretty standard armor, fire resist potions are pretty cheap, a sword. Heck you can bring a bow but I didn't have too much ghast issues. So for about an hour a day in different chunks, you can earn some 30k per hour if you are constantly moving through unexplored chunks. This method varies at the nether is a popular mining area for quartz. If you go far out in the frontier nether and have an outpost near some portal, you can easily mine there and gather lots overtime and transport back to town via rail/nether path.
  7. Huh... that's an interesting method. My gear's very limited

    Full FP Diamond Gear
    Stack of Enderpearls
    1 EnderChest
    Silk Pick
    Normal Pick
    Food
    Sword
    2 Stacks of Blocks

    Done

You fill up your inventory with nether quartz and enderchest and walk out with a dc of quartz in 3-5 hours, my best time was 2:32. Hope you had fun mining in the Nether Ros, I'm actually liking the documentation on these endeavors. :)

  8. That is astounding. I have tried and I can't get nearly that much that quickly. How do you do it?
  9. Strip mine instead of running around :)
  10. Try it without the OP gear and let me know how well you do.

  11. You can still use iron armor and set difficult to level 1 and obtain the same amount of resources. Im not sure what you are trying to say here.

  12. Diff lvl 1 gives you fortune 3 and silk touch pickaxe? Wow, I've been playing this game way wrong.

  13. ^ The ores were mined with a silk touch pick, which doesn't give accurate results due to the randomness of the Fortune enchantment. Ores mined would be a better measurement than the final resources you obtained.

  14. Try using voters gear? Or maybe less enchanted items?
  15. Even voter's gear has fortune 3. Just make an iron pick with unbreaking 3 on it, and you've successfully replicated a Starter Pickaxe.

  16. I don't appreciate the sarcasm and if you read the rest of the thread, you would know Im not saying that you start out with Fortune III picks n such. So please don't go making assumptions as to what I'm saying without reading the rest of the thread.

  17. Thanks for the experiment and the other comments.
  18. Oops. Guess I assumed that "newer players" and the items that they "start out" with were one and the same.

Guess I should read a bit more.

  19. Try this, EMC Shops and Attractions v2, it may not have every shop, but it'll get you started. Those that do usually advertise buy/sell. Be sure to look at the Additional Shops spoiler too. This will help you way more then /v +shop or /v +mall which is kind of a bust.

And coin2012a, you could win 6k (read the latest thread comments)!

p.s. If you're selling, I'd start out at The Hoard @ 18721
  20. I purposely got a good, fortune III pick axe when I started out because the first thing I did on emc was mine for supplies. He didn't say day one, brand new players. I had a fortune III diamond pick within the first couple weeks, so it is possible if you actually work for things.
