  1. No more puns from me for this threads. Just going sit back now.

  2. It takes less than a second to press the "CAPS LOCK" key on your keyboard.
  3. And another thing.

    Quite a few people think I am "mad" at staff or upset at them for some reason. I'll put it plain and simple;

    I'm not.

I have no problem with a single staff member and how they do their job, I just stated ways I felt about the choosing of them and improvements that could be made.

  5. Pass the popcorn please.
  6. You could argue that having any sort of staff at all constitutes some people having more pull over others than others.

As much as I respect the staff, neither I nor you nor Aikar or anyone else would claim you are all infallible; at some point, you will make mistakes. However, having community input will reduce the likelihood of that, and reduce any friction which may emerge between staff and community when an error or misjudgement is made. Obviously it isn't practical to have every single player give their views, so they can delegate this role to someone who'd like to specialise in this area. Hence, elected representatives.

The underrepresentation of minorities is an issue with representative democracy; this could be mitigated with STV voting, and by inviting people in a thread (preferably separate from the main application thread) to either post their views there on how moderators should be selected (or who should be selected) or post through a form privately or anonymously, if they aren't comfortable publicising their views. Then, when moderators have been selected, a thread could be opened up giving an explanation of how the mods were chosen for transparency, and allow people (either on the thread or a private/anonymous form) to post specifically non-personal critiques on the moderators selected, or the methods used. Similar consultation threads could be posted for other significant community decisions as well, and of course this could all run parallel to the work of elected reps, to ensure both the majority and the various minority views are well represented.

    Also,
Massive respect for this. Really super glad you're taking a stand on this; I know my own school wouldn't do anything if people were espousing racist views (which has been the case), probably because it's Northern Ireland and they don't want to start sectarian riots or something.

So in this aspect, you as a Minecraft server network's staff, are outperforming a secondary school. *clapclapclap*

  7. I dont understand how this happened. I posted this thread mainly for your Opinion On EMC's future and now, It has turned in to a 7 page drama with stuff about religions and staff complaints. I really think that we should stay on topic otherwise I will ask someone (staff) to close this thread. Lets stick to the main purpose of this thread. What do you think EMC will be like in the future?
  8. Ok really, Someone implies Im a bigot the post is still there and how was the person punished?

And why does race, gender, or sexual preference need to be discussed in a forum filled with minors reading about playing minecraft?
  9. The EMC community is for all ages, including adolescents and above, who might want to discuss that. As such, they should have the right to.

I would argue that race, gender and sexual orientation (not preference, which is completely different) are something that we have a responsibility to discuss, because the exploitation of these characteristics has been used to dehumanise people, and we should all be aware of that.

  10. there will be dwagons! ^.^
  11. So you have the right and responsibility to discuss sexual orientation/preference with 3rd graders? How about use common sense in thinking about what age groups might be in here? I have never felt the need to go discuss sexual preferences with strangers 3rd graders and you can bet If someone felt the need to walk up to my 8 year old daughter and discuss those things with her, better pray the cops get here fast enough to save them from me...

  14. Again, there is a significant difference in sexual orientation and preference. It is not sexual preference, nor is it sexual orientation/preference. It is just sexual orientation. Sexual orientation relates to the gender identity you are attracted to in relation to your own gender identity; this is a characteristic hardwired into your brain from birth, and for many years this has not been a case for discussion in the scientific community. Sexual preference is more environmental, and relates to the actual characteristics you prefer on the people you're attracted to.

Preference is indeed inappropriate to discuss around children, but orientation is not. You know why? Because you can reference heterosexual relationships, for example most children's parents, family friends they know who are in a relationship, and so on, and it is plainly discriminatory not to equally reference homosexual or other LGBT+ relationships in the same way. LGBT+ people do not deserve to be treated any differently because of their sexual orientation, and I'm sorry if you don't think that. Every so often, you will come across a kid who, at some point, will end up gay, or lesbian, or bisexual, or pansexual, or demisexual, or asexual, or might shift from time to time, or might question their sexuality, and they absolutely deserve to know that what they feel is okay, and they shouldn't be treated any differently for it. In short, the existence of LGBT+ people and the fact they have lives just like heterosexual, cisgender and binary people, is not offensive or inappropriate..

Also please note, EMC is for all ages. When you discuss sexual orientation, you are not necessarily discussing it with 3rd graders. You might be, but not necessarily. And if you are, there is nothing wrong with that. If you're discussing preference, I would expect staff action, because this is a family friendly site.

I doubt anyone would "walk up" to your 8 year old daughter and discuss these things. What is more likely to happen is that she will overhear a conversation on this topic, or an LGBT+ relationship might be referenced when she's talking to someone. Neither of these things are inappropriate.

If someone does "walk up" and discuss that, then fair enough, take action. Any stranger who would randomly come up to your daughter and discuss relationships out of the blue, be they heterosexual or LGBT+, is a significant cause for suspicion. But if she overhears an appropriate non-offensive discussion referencing sexual orientation or an LGBT+ relationship and you genuinely feel the need to assault that person or that they ought to be arrested, then I must say I'm very disappointed.

  15. This really helps add to the point of sr staff having a non-caring attitude.

  16. Ok what do you think would happen if an 20 yr old walked up to a 13 yr old and start talking about sexual preference.
  17. Or this is the forums and he's joining in on community activity and having some fun. If something like THIS is an issue for some... I just don't even....
  18. There is a discussion going on about the staff lacking chemistry and the fact they aren't interacting great with the community. So yeah, it is kind of an issue for him to be like "haha this thread *sits back and eats popcorn*".
Deadmaster98, Penguinub and DubChef like this.
  19. I literally addressed the issue of "walking up" in my previous post, and I pointed out why it's sexual orientation and not 'preference' twice.

I'm all up for discussing this with you, but it is extremely discourteous that you won't even take the time to read and acknowledge my arguments which I have spent time writing, when I have done the same for you.
