Ideas for new outposts

Discussion in 'Frontier and Player Outposts' started by zulu9, Feb 17, 2013.

  1. I have an outpost in SMP 3 that's kinda unique in that it's on the ocean. There is quite a bit being done above the ocean, but the main area is under the sea and I plan to expand it. Originally I was thinking of something like the Dwarven Mines in LotR, but that never really happened.

You can see some picks on post if you want - http://empireminecraft.com/threads/smp-3-outpost.21277/

Some are just posted, others (22 I think) are in an Imgur album that's on page 3 I think

  2. No.

The original post are just things I found in old notes before I started the LLO.
The note for the LLO btw basically says:
"Make jungle outpost, provide bed and food invite everyone in game and on forum"
    and I went with that.

As I won't use the other stuff I just thought I share them in the new wild forum here :)

  5. sounds interesting. can you explain a bit more what you think this could look / be like?

  6. Thanks. Maybe you should ask a mod to move that thread to the wilderness frontier forum!
  7. Good idea! I appreciate the thought.
  8. Gonna build a hotel chain in the wild :p
  9. Just huge caverns dug out of the ground with like pillars and hallways connecting them and you can add rooms for living and farming and storage, it would take a bit of digging but would look cool in the end.

  10. ah ok. I think I get it. kinda like the fallout thing but with smaller tunnels and in a more fantasy style.
    good idea, that could work.
  11. :D

  12. BTW,
are there any good more or less public nether outposts yet?
something like the LLO but in the nether.
  13. All great ideas, though I love the idea of a Sky City the most. I'd always wondered what that dirt mess south of LLO was for, not sorry to hear it's being / been removed. I think you could still pull something like that off, but you'd need to start on a smaller scale, with maybe one central structure, and build off of it via bridges and waterfalls (vertical movement). Ladders and vines also work, but not as effectively since they need solid backing.

Bobcat & myself did make one of those, but it got lonely with just the two of us. Really ought to get around to posting it one of these days...

One suggestion I'd like to share:
    NPC City
We're already doing this with New Atlantia, but simply put the idea is an entire city designed with Villagers in mind. It retains the general aesthetic of standard Village buildings, and allows them to roam free - ideally, expanding to fill the whole region.
Alternatively, you could create other city designs around the same concept - oak and cobble get a bit dull in vast quantities - as long as your villagers are safe to roam freely throughout the city's boundaries. Walls recommended.

  14. I like the Sky City idea :D
  15. If anyone builds a city out in the wild, and wants it hidden from the livemap, just create a faux-mountain around it, kind of like a dome covering, to block it out from both the random passerbys, and from griefers taking a look around on the map. I've got a jungle outpost going on SMP1, and even though it's only about 6 of us over there so far, you can't notice us on the livemap because it's basically just another part of the landscape right now. The only problem is getting my rail system hidden correctly, because when i have it pop up on new islands, i have to be sneaky about it so it's not just random rail out in the middle of nowhere. Haha
  16. Great idea. I added it to the first post.
  17. Yeah I tried to have a village full of villagers. They mysteriously dissapeared with only 5 or 6 remaining. I think they despawn if there are too many... (Plus it wasn't over the 250 limit)
  18. Sky city looks cool, would like to build that too

  20. I prefer to think of new outpost ideas not with creative new building themes, but with new political and economic systems which haven't been tried before.

Here's a list of sociopolitical systems, with notes on whether they've been tried before.

    • Democracy. Done before, the LLO is 'an anarchy with democracy as a fallback'.
      • Direct democracy. Done before, again by the LLO.
        • Socialist direct democracy. May have been done, needs verification to confirm.
        • Free-market direct democracy. Probably has been done, needs verification to confirm.
      • Representational democracy. Being done by the New Republic.
        • Socialist representational democracy. The New Republic has elements of socialism where the government decides how resources are allocated, but it is not purely socialist. Has not been effectively done.
        • Free-market representational democracy. Being done by the New Republic.
    • Oligarchy. This exists in the form of businesses based in the wild, where a group of individuals may dictate to workers and give them work, in return for money. No group calling themselves a wild outpost or something similar are doing this to my knowledge, let me know if someone is.
    • Monarchy. Same as above, except a single individual dictates.
    • Anarchy. Done by the LLO.
    • Theocracy. Not done yet, but I'd like to see how it turns out...can someone get Jtc on the phone?
    • Republic. Done by the New Republic.
      • Market republic. Done by the New Republic.
      • Socialist republic. Not yet done...but when the New Republic is built up a bit more, I might send an expedition to make an autonomous socialist or communist town.
If something has indeed been done and I haven't noted it, let me know!
