Found my first one today! I think I'm going to try the nether next, I'm having little to no luck. I did find a feast chest at the beginning though. Totally happened upon it at random. Have yet to see the chat pop up...
Yeah, so you can find turkeys running around without seeing the "Gobble Gobble..." and you can find feast chests around without seeing the coords in chat, because other players could've missed them because they were afk. I once saw one "Gobble" message and found six turkeys wandering around. Once you find a spot where they're spawning it's usually best I've found to stay in that general area and to not keep running around.... unless that's what you want to do.
Biggest hint I will give as tomorrow is the last day. The nether waste and regular waste are great areas as the turkeys often spawn on people just going for a dig or something and are never found. Just a word of advice to help you unlucky people.
So I'm out in the waste and I get the message that a turkey is nearby. But I couldn't find it. After maybe 30 minutes I decided to go search for it again. This time I found it...but it didn't have the name above it's head. It would only show up if I scrolled over it. Possible bug? I did just switch to 1.8.1, that may cause a "glitch in the Matrix"
Can a feast chest respawn in a chunk/area where it spawned already? Can a feast chest spawn in already loaded territory/doesn't it need "new" land like biomes in new updates?
Chest finder wouldn't even work. Lol. The chests spawn only after you receive the feast chest message in your chat.

I've been immensely lucky... I've found about six chests and have killed about 18 Super Turkeys. I've got almost a full stack of shiny turkeys and six Turkey Slicers. A couple of nights ago, I got the "Gobble Gobble" text, went searching, and saw it was underground. Started underground to find the turkey, and realized there were FOUR of them right near each other! I was able to trap three of them in a small space together where they couldn't escape... and hacked with my sword until my hand cramped. LOL
Well a feast chest wouldn't "respawn" but multiple feast chests can spawn in the same chunk. and yes, a feast chest can spawn in a loaded chunk. It always spawns above ground as well, although it could be over water. It won't be buried.
Gosh dangit, I'll be getting back from vacation right as the event will be over Darn delayed plane...
I actually can't wait for it to end now. I'm kinda tired of killing turkeys and I wanna watch the prices
can someone tell me how to avoid the Monster is having trouble getting to you message for the super turkeys? It is hard enough to hit them but when I back them into a corner or hit them more than once every 10 secs it seems I get that message.
I've found that as long as you're on the same level as them then you're okay but if you try to hit them from above then you get that message.
I have been digging under them and putting them in a 2x2 or 2x3 hole then closing it off so it won't escape. If the hole is "clean" - meaning no straggling blocks hanging in the air - then the Turkey has every opportunity to come at you, and you can simply hack away. It's when there's a lone block above you, and while hitting it the Turkey flies a bit, where I have seen that message. For the record, with a +13.5 damage Sword (Turkey Slicer), I counted 225 whacks today in slaying my latest
