Do turkeys spawn only at night or during the daytime as well? I haven't seen any during the daytime so far.
Interesting. I've haven't had one Super Turkey spawn in places where normal chickens do and I have areas that can generate hundreds of passive mob per day. Something isn't working right.
First, chickens only spawn on grass blocks with two free blocks of space above them and a certain light level. Second, they have to be natural spawns. No breeding/using eggs. Thirdly, passive spawns are actually pretty rare because usually passive mobs only spawn when a new chunk is generated and only rarely spawn after that. Therefore, it makes sense that most sightings have been due to the more common chicken jockeys.
There are certain mob farms out there that specifically only spawn passive mobs such as cows, pigs, sheep, chicken etc. I figure that is what matthew is referring to when he says he has an area that can spawn hundreds of passive mobs. I too have been seeing a lack of super turkey's on the land when I went out to see them - only in caves.
Okay, here has been my experience. Yesterday I spent roughly 8 hours, on and off, by myself wandering around both the Wastelands Wild and Frontier Wild and I saw no mentions of the feast chest and I saw exactly four mentions of "Gobble Gooble...". Taking what Aikar said about how it's within 16 chunks, I took that to mean a 4 chunk radius in any direction. So once I saw that I would search that area to find a turkey. Initially I was only checking underground, which proved impossible unless I happened to be in a cave/ravine system. So then I searched to above ground. At no point did I actually see the turkey. Then, later in the night, I joined a group of four other players in the Frontier Wild and we formed a group and wandered around in about a 16 chunk area fighting mobs. During this time I saw four mentions of the feast chest (it seemingly was happening once every two day cycles) and several mentions of the "Gobble Gobble...". Out of all the mentions of the turkey I only found the turkey above ground once and it was several chunks away floating in a small water area. I was able to kill it and get the turkey slicer. One of the players I was doing this with mentioned that he had killed four turkeys earlier, I presume he was alone at the time and not in the group, and they never dropped the turkey slicer. So, say what you will about the code and how they are supposed to work, my experience tells me that being in a group helps and that the turkeys aren't always spawning above ground. Needless to say, despite my whining online about this promo, that this is what I'd rather see from this server in terms of holiday promos. I think we need fewer promos and that with these fewer promos they should be more elaborate like this.
The chickens have proven that they have too much power and they cannot be stoped. Please spawn a ton of turkeys in town that drop non shining turkey, and you have to craft 4 together to make a non shining cooked turkey.
The Turkeys don't have that much power. Just trap them in a 2x1x2 block wide hole and go at them with a sharpness 5 sword and a strength potion.
truth I used a voters sword when I killed mine. I had to feed my hunger a few times and it took about 5 minutes or so to kill him. I tried trapping him but was unsuccessful. What I found though is that sometimes, just like normal chickens, they sort of trap themselves against a wall and then I'd go at them. Lucky for all of us they can't attack back otherwise they'd be OP.
Just to further back up my point about how being in groups help. I'm back in the same spot I was in yesterday with the group but now I"m alone. I've been watching and there has never been that many people in this world, sometimes 1-2 but that's it. I've been here an hour or so, several day cycles and so far haven't seen one mention of the chest. Definitely less frequent than yesterday with the group. With that being said, if anyone is interested they can come to SMP8 in the Frontier, look at the live map to see where I'm at and we can share in the experience. We can take turns taking the chest and the turkeys.
Thus far, I've had a ton of luck with Turkeys (80+ Cooked Turkeys and 3 Slicers), but I've only found three Feast Chests total. Any ideas on this? What's the best way to find Feast Chests?
I still haven't been able to find a turkey... i get one gobble gobble, then nothing else. I look everywhere too i swear.
you've really found that many turkeys? you have some sort of enraged farm or something because that's insane. for feast chests i've found that just walking around in an area, a few chunk radius and just waiting usually works. the more i wander around the less i've seen them.
