  1. Can't miss those travel questions!
Do you like to travel? If so, where have you been to that is amazing?
Or where are you planning to travel to?

  2. With peanut butter and syrup! Yum.

idk, I don't like to do favorites... and by extension least - they are even worse... fav could maybe be all of the activities that happen in a school, outside of the classroom. Least would be the students that don't want to learn.
  3. I like to travel, but I don't really do it. I haven't left the US (well technically canoed into Canada once). I have been to the coasts, I guess that was enjoyable. LA, DC, Texas... As a kid, my family would road trip places. So have seen lots to the west and north of KS.
I don't have any plans, but maybe I should make some.
  4. I am going to do that giveaway tomorrow. To participate, all you had to do was reply. Any in-game items will be sent via /mail.

  5. Nice, thanks!
  6. Is it too late to enter? :p Anywho, got any Netflix/Hulu/whatever recommendations? Iā€™m at the point currently that I always end up at with rewatching the Office

  7. Are there any areas of math that you find difficult to explain to your students?

Have you read/watched Harry Potter? If so, which character do you relate to the most? :)

  8. No specific recommendations - but I do not like to rewatch things. So I always watch something new each time. I encourage an open mindset, try something new, a new category perhaps.

My biggest struggle, is when a student is lacking some prerequisite knowledge - it is really hard to determine how far back to backtrack. Nothing in particular.
I have read and watched Harry Potter. It has been quite a few years though. I don't have a character in particular that I relate to, but I am a Ravenclaw.

  10. This is a fun thread to read, but it is long, so I only read the first page for now! :) I hope I will have a question to ask myself by the end of it.

  12. Hah duckie
    I did ba-gawk but I also like puk-puk--pukaaak and cock-a-doodle-do :p
My neighbors own a rooster and I laugh every time I hear it XD
YESSSS I'm Ravenclaw as well :D
  13. I've always liked the idea of being able to stop time. But that seems a bit overpowered. So idk, flying/speed.

  14. If not stop time at least slow the time, that's a thing I think :p

  15. So you can perform flights solo without a license?
  16. How many people of EMC have you met IRL, and if they wouldn't mind us to know, whom?
  17. Well it does say Random discussion, and I have been known to be very random with suddenly saying something off topic in the middle of a conversation.

I think my brain just likes to keep ppl on their toes :p
  18. Yup! You do anywhere between 10-30 hours of flight with an instructor before flying on your own. In addition to this there is time spent in a classroom setting learning the ins and outs of communicating with air traffic control and other airplanes in the sky. Students aren't allowed to fly solo until their flight instructor feels that they can handle it.

I can still see the confusion, though. It's kinda funny. We won't let students drive cars on their own for over a year (from when they can first receive their driver's permit) but you can fly a plane on your own after a relatively short time. The system seems to work fairly well, though.

  19. To be fair, there are significantly less things that you can crash into when flying a plane than when driving a car.

  20. Flying is continuously talking with someone over the radio, driving is continuously talking with someone over the phone... (just kidding don't call/text/phone & drive kids, it's incredibly dangerous). Flying seems, as weird as it may sound, in a way indeed easier than driving: not many obstacles, and many planes fly themselves or similar when in the air, while driving continuously poses you with (other) idiots that try to kill you (speaking from experience lol). There's also the, in the eyes of some European nations, lacking education of drivers in the USA, which adds to the unsafe conditions on the road (to be fair we have enough imbeciles here too, that you start to wonder whether some maybe found their license in a cereal box. :p

Anyways, some questions I just came up with:
Do you have any tips for studying maths (both/either on a high school level and university)?
Do you have any tips for teaching maths (I've helped a student (3 years below me) for like 2 years, it seems to have helped them a lot. :) I also sometimes try to help my sister (4 years below me), but she's quite difficult to help (doesn't want to do anything and always says that she doesn't understand it :p))?
    How are you today? :)
