[APRIL FOOL] SMP8 Independence - Spring/Summer 2017

Being that today is April 1 (aka April Fool's Day) I will take this with a grain of salt. On the other hand, if it is in fact true it's a good thing smp7 has their own Public Utilities so the other smp's can come to smp7.

Haha. I got a kick out of this. I'd love to see it, but today is the encursed April 1st, so...

Sometimes you just got to do what's best for business I suppose. Yeah, people like me could see this one coming when Hash became senior staff (no offense Hash, but I heard the stories about you starting to ask some players to donate a fish before they would be welcomed).

I hope that by next year the staff will finally have had enough time to decide on SMP2's wishes to get a big wall around the server so that all those new players can't hop off into the Frontier anymore (and then leave), but instead get forced to stay in town where they belong (at least for the first few hours ).

Just like we can any other. It's just that /vault would no longer work, and it would be completely separated. So you'd really have to disconnect from the Empire and connect to SMP8. So fortunately it won't be totally gone

The hardest part to adjust to (for me) will be the advertisement rules. I sure hope I haven't gotten myself into trouble already (not talking about EMC but about SMP8, not sure if they'd like people talking about other SMP's now ).

I'm just scared I might lose my residence on this new smp8. I also wish to still be a member of EMC (cause ya know i got a lot of friends on the other servers). Plus i dont have many rupees and im just really confused about the whole ''filling a form'' thing. i need answers agh

I'm convinced that no one will be losing anything anytime soon. I wouldn't worry about that, the staff can't afford that to happen because of the major backlash that would create.

Do note: I'm not talking about the usual issues of going derelict and such, but I am positive that staff (or should I say Hash? ) will have this planned out.

But you make a good point: What if you have a residence on SMP8 and you want that to remain a part of the Empire and not the new SMP8? I think this might be something for GRIP to step into. So if players want to move their residences from SMP8 to another SMP then GRIP will cover the costs for that.

I'll discuss that with the group and I'm sure we can come up with an official statement somewhere next week

If you think that sounds crazy: we've done similar stuff before when block protection just got out.

So don't worry about it too much, there are players out there who will also try to look after everyones wellfare.

Okay, I thogught this was april fools at first. This is absoulutly crazy. I dont live on smp8, I live on smp2. However, I really hate this idea. Think of all the people tht have to break down their creations? This is absoulutly insane. Bye

I agree that the timing is very specific and odd, but it also makes sense!

Empire has always been about special things. Special (custom) items, special mobs and all that. But EMC has also been about using creativity behind all that. Think about the rabbits foot for good luck... That's a golden idea and very creative too. The pot of gold? Same deal!

So here's the deal: they hinted that the ties wouldn't be completely broken, you'd still be able to send each other messages and such? And how did people send messages in the past? (sometimes this is still being used)?

Don't you find it a little bit suspicious that this news popped up only 2 days after parrots became an undeniable fact, an upcoming part of the future Minecraft?

Also: the split is pretty much to occur once the new version is planned to be out as well, I'm convinced that SMP8 will be included with the upcoming Empire server upgrade, which includes parrots.

SO then I think we'll soon be getting custom parrot mobs being dubbed "carrier pigeon". Every SMP8 player will be getting one and it will be usable after the "smp8xit" to contact a player on the Empire in-game. It will probably also take a while for the message to arrive but yeah....

I just hope Aikar and the staff will also be cable to come up with something nice for the rest of the server.

Maybe message rockets, that would be cool! SMP8 using pigeons and we're using rockets

It's not like important things can't be done at April 1st. We moved on April 1st. As in, to another home.
Hey, that means I've now been living here for 7 years. That's quite a significant part of my life so far. (almost completely unrelated, but this thread can use some distraction )

Just to say though im not necessarily saying i want to keep my residence's on the server, I'm fine either way, but it's if I have to move my res to smp8, where am I going to find the rupees to move them?? I have 3 reses i want to move, 2 of them on this account (IssyIsNotOnFire) and one on my other (NublingClique). I was told by someone that it will cost 50k rupees to move a res, so in total for me that would be 150k rupees. My problem is that i only have roughly 300-400 r including both accounts. (sorry to keep bugging you but i need answers aha)

Don't worry. At the time of writing GRIP (check out the link) owns roughly 4 million rupees. I've always said that those rupees were meant to be spend on the community and most definitely will never be (ab)used by individual players (talking about myself because technically I own it where the rules are concerned).

When push comes to shove then GRIP will also get involved one way or the other. If money is holding you back then you can relax because we'd refund things best as possible.

Once we contacted staff to ask / demand / pressure them (just a little bit!) to give us more details we'll also be trying to push for leniency with players who want to move or, as said, pay for it ourselves.

But for now I wouldn't worry about all this too much. Think things over, and enjoy the weekend for now. Just keep in mind that there are also players looking out for you guys

And who knows: for all we know Hash went rogue here and after Krysyy wakes up tomorrow we'll suddenly be seeing something else

Why would SMP8 gain independence from the Empire in the first place?

Another thing to note is that all of the suspected events related to SMP8 breaking away from the empire all take place on the 8th day of april, may, june, and july.
