A Letter to the Community Regarding Reporting Players

  1. Hmmm, yeah, those time zones can be tricky sometimes. Please feel free to drop by and say Hi.(1732) Even if I'm not in town you're welcome to come on in look around or hang around in the trees even. The home front door is under water.... I'm sure you'll be able to find it. =] and btw Welcome to Empire and smp1 where all the  peoples are. XD
  2. Interesting... I haven't reported anybody in ages. I didn't realize people were actually over-reporting.
  3. krysyyjane Thanks for posting this. Following the rules is part of a good community, but being the watchdog only takes away from the reason people play on here- fun. If everyone tries to be patient and look out for others, that will make EMC the best server around. IMO :)

  4. It's not cursing, but people report it ALOT. That and 'damn'.

  5. So are those words bad?
  6. No, unless used under clearly inappropriate/excessive circumstances.
  7. As a Christian, in my opinion, "oh my God" unless used in praising our Lord and Savior, is inappropriate, even though it is accepted in the world today.

  8. Well, it could technically be appropriate in all other cases it's used in... except that the people using it are most of the time people that don't talk to God that often, with the exception of "omg".
  9. But you can't dictate how other people practice or don't practice religion, ie use the word god. By this I mean you get to chose how you use the word "God" but you don't get to chose for other people. I mean this respectfully to your religion, I just ask that you respect other people as well. :)
  10. If you read my post, you will notice that I stated "IN MY OPINION". I do not judge or dictate how other people deal with anything in their life. They have the freedom to choose as they see fit, as I have the freedom and right to state my feelings.

  11. Why am I not tagged? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  12. I'd like to add something to Ronald's comments if I may...

I'm not religious myself. Well, maybe spiritual but that's besides the point.

Bottom line: "omw", "wth"... One letter can make a huge difference and everyone will still know exactly what you're saying. This isn't about nicely following the rules in my opinion; it goes to showing a bit of courtesy and respect towards your fellow players. And sure, accidents can sometimes happen (I also misused the first one a few times by accident).

Its the intent which counts. And if using 1 different letter can help you express your frustration without offending anyone.. why don't we?

    Just my 2 cents.

  13. Uh? I'm not sure if I understand this post. What does "omw" even mean?

  14. I'd imagine it means "oh my word."

  15. But what's wrong with "oh my word"? Either ShelLuser should rephrase his post for me, or I should just ignore and move on :p (probably the second option )
  16. He's saying that changing one letter and using "omw" instead of "omg" can make a difference, in that it shows courtesy to people who would've be offended by "omg", at no sacrifice to the phrase's meaning itself.

  17. Ah, okay, thanks, I get it now. I misunderstood the post because "wth" is often used for "what the hell", which is just as or more insulting than "wtf" for many people.
But if anyone still knows what you mean, it's not that much better in my opinion, so if I want to "curse", I just make someone out for "potato" or shout "carrot!"

  18. Errr... I never thought about that one

Right, back to the drawing board. Fortunately there's not a real problem here because I seldom use this stuff, and if I do its mostly in private chat. But even so, this is good to keep in mind.

I have to admit, that's even better.

  19. Haha if Damn is a word people report a lot I wouldn't be suprised if I have a 100+ reports filed against me. Everytime a Creeper blows up my shelter in the wilderness, I fall into Nether Lava courtesy of a ghast, Or I lose my way and Live Map decides to stop working for me. There is only one way for me to describe my frustration. "DAMN!"

Just Noticed the thread is kinda old! My bad all the lil flags on the side said new!
  20. Purple! (and don't ask me to change this to Blue!, because the Community Manager gets purple.)

I am SO glad you said this, or else people would be reporting others for joining! Also, I agree that if you want someone to stop, the don't say; "Stop It!!!" over, and over and over again.
