Residence Update Log! The latest changes in the Empire Town!

  1. I like it :D
  2. I started writing this message a few times now and started deleting it just as many times as well. Minus one of course. I'm really not sure about sharing this, but then figured that this is just about you guys as it is about me. Some of my update messages are also a bit showing off, sure, but this is a message fully dedicated to my friends.

Who said Minecraft can't get personal or a bit more emotional? Or maybe I'm just taking some things a bit more serious than others, also quite possible but anyway... I've said it many times before, I'll probably say this many more times as well but I don't necessarily play for the rupees. Don't get me wrong: they're good to have around, they can help you to get materials for buildings and other cool things, but its not what drives me on the Empire.

Some of my friends and people who got closer to me realize and know this, and well... People have slipped me nice things over time and each of those items holds a memory for me. Some more special than others, but all are important to me.

This evening I went through the chest where I kept these items and I figured that I should just put them up on a wall for more easier access. And I'd like to share that moment with you guys, but especially with my friends who might have been curious where their gifts ended up.

To me Nami's rose is more valuable than any existing promo out there, which is also why it is located in a more prominent place on this wall. This way of saying thank you is so much more valuable to me than simply handing out rupee's....

And yeah, thank you guys as well. Not only did I really enjoy helping you guys out, or just being there I suppose, I also really enjoyed the personal thought you guys gave back. That little bit of personal touch is what its all about for me.

So here's a warm, well meant, thank you back to you, my friends. You know who you are :)

  3. As some of you might know there's a bug in Minecraft when it comes to pistons; they can react to redstone signals even when that signal is officially too far away. There's even a whole page about this piston bug here.

And this evening the bug hit me. I knew it was there, but had to come up with a good, workable, solution. And I found one; using a workaround with sand!

Not going to comment in too much detail, but the 'circuit breaker' at the top doesn't suffer from the present redstone signal anymore. Even sand can carry a redstone signal, and the best part: when the piston is deactivated the sand drops down on its own. Win-win :)

What this circuit is going to do? Well, that remains a secret for now ;)

  4. Some people started noticing my extended stays on smp5 as of late. And I'm not even on my own residence :)

So I'd like to share another teaser... What could it be? I don't know either. Or actually: I do know but I'm not telling :p Not yet anyway.

Hmm, it almost looks to me as if another player posted something similar earlier in this thread. Who could it be? ;)

(disclaimer: This isn't my build but I am helping a little bit with some parts of it. Recently I started exploring and suddenly saw this. I think it looks quite cool, that's why I'm sharing).

  5. thats freaking gorgeous!
  6. so... I have spent about two and a half hours working on a machine that I have said for weeks now that I was going to build. I really needed to, its a potion machine and I have over 10,000 glass bottles that need to be used. So, I needed a afk machine or one that mass produces them really fast with multiple brewing stands. I settled for the former, afk and automatic. Well, this is a pretty complex machine... to BUILD. now all you have to do is select your ingredients and turn it on, go eat a sammich and check the forums(really all I do :p)

The second set of photos here is my nether res that I built with LOTS of quartz to taunt one of my best EMC friends, nutriciousbudha. Anyone that knows budha knows that he has a fetish for quartz XD. I have done a few builds to pick on him. I feel justified since I'm poor because of "his" mall lol.

click the link for more photos of the nether res... or just do /v +nmtn on smp7

  7. I have been expanding my shop and added new items and took away other ones: added enchanted books and removed blaze rods.

  10. Wow, some of the most unlikely build blocks I have seen for a building like that really come together well! :)

  14. i was planing on adding one any other ideas?
  15. A super-fancy villager hall with villagers, maybe people could trade with them.
  16. Ok im going to dig out any area under ground for a market area.
  17. Well, instead of Friday Night Mining I did some serious Friday Night Building ;)

Now, some time ago I build myself a vault. This is basically a storage area on my 2nd smp2 residence which is used for both bulk storage as well as secured storage. The latter is done within the vault which I described earlier. Because I consider this area secured I've set quite a few restrictions in place. You can't teleport to (and on) this residence and when you're standing on it you can't even use the /vault and /mail commands.

Because this area is used for bulk storage (every chest contains at least 5+ stacks of stuff, the only exception is within the vault) it can sometimes become a little bothersome to transport items over there. Either I /vault them (tedious) or I simply fill up my inventory and go back and forth a few times (even more tedious). And there's another problem surfacing: giving a few of my friends limited access to the storage area. So; they can add stuff, but not retrieve it.

I know what you might be thinking: all perfectly possible with flags, access signs, hoppers, etc. Sure. The problem however is that I also like a large dose of roleplay. So I really want a physical barrier between players (myself included) and the secured storage ;)

So I decided to build myself this:

A chest in which to place items which should be sent to the secured bulk storage

The chest on the right is used to put stuff in. The chest on the left is used to refill the system with minecart with chest's. One of the most common things people do when transporting items with a railroad is to use a minecart with a hopper and simply have it move back and forth several times. That's not good enough for me. What if people try to send items back from the vault? No; this needed to be a 1 way system:

Purple: dispenser & track control, Green: cart control (start)

It's pretty simple. The moment you put items in the chest the left hopper will start collecting them as soon as the chest is closed. When an item is detected in the hopper (green circuit) 2 things happen: first the dirt block at the end of the railroad track is pulled back (a piston keeps that in place). Then, 8 ticks later, the dispenser is activated which will place a minecart with chest on the track. Also: the track will remain powered because of the redstone signal.

At this point the hopper will place the items into the minecart with chest.

Now comes the fun part: as soon as the hopper is empty the earlier two triggers get undone. First the dirt block is put back into place which will make the minecart start moving (the track is still powered at this point, and the block makes sure that the minecart can only move one way). Then, 8 ticks later, the power is cut from the track and everything is back to its off state.

The cart is send straight towards my other residence:

With thanks to the Senior Staff for helping me set up this inter-residence connection so quickly!

As you can probably see the track goes down and then up again. That's planned. This is simply the first step, at a later stage I'm planning to use the redstone connection(s) to send control signals which will determine where a cart needs to be sent to. Eventually I'm planning to semi-automate my vegetable farm. So instead of dumping everything in a chest which I will then manually dump into my storage the whole kaboodle would be sent off to my bulk storage.

But that's for later. Right now the following happens:

This is the end of the road, literally ;)

The cactus will destroy the cart which will also release all of its contents. The hoppers under the rails (7 in total) will pick everything up and place it into a dropper. Basically my item elevator:

Purple: main elevator control, Red: timer tick control

3 droppers are being monitored for items. The first, 3rd and 5th. (there are 6 droppers in total). The moment one of those droppers contains an item it will sent a (delayed) signal which will activate the "timer tick". Basically a small redstone circuit which I'd describe as a pulsar or flip-flop. All it does is sent a repetitive signal: on, off, on, off, on, off... and so forth. And all those triggers basically make sure that every dropper (which is placed faced upwards) will push its item(s) into the next dropper.

The timer circuit (red); the torch & delay makes the circuit turn itself on and off...

This method is then repeated until all of the checked droppers are empty. Because of the delay the timer tick will activate 2 - 3 times before its turned off, which will make sure that all my items find their way into the result chest:

Now all that's left to do is to place the items into my storage. And it's a lot easier to walk back and forth between this chest and my storage area than having to teleport back and forth between residences all the time.

So yah... More redstone powah ;)
  18. Last night I rolled out a survey with a few questions about parkour habits and preferences. Slime block parkour was relatively high on the list of what you wanted to see, and I already had it planned, but I worked on it a lot today and got a good chunk of it done.

The course can be found at /v 11217 on SMP5, Lime Teleport, or at /v 11217@lime or /v 11217@slime.

This course isn't that hard (it helps if you know a little about slime blocks), and is sort of short, but can lead to some fun either way. I'll most likely expand it soon, but I wanted to get opinions on it now. Here are some screenshots:

  19. This is awesome, but what if when the cart is destroyed some of the items go into the cactus?
