  1. in legal terms specific code is poor mans copywritten to the author so no mojang owns none of the plugin code. thats why games that modify existing code but some out with their own names are legal (quake engine anyone)
  2. thats where I lost ya. When I was reading tweets and watching videos, from what i understand is that Mojang is making it so if you donate to a server, thats fine. But you wont be able to receive anything in game. So you can donate to keep a server running, as long as you arent getting anything from in game, thats fine and does not break any rules. However, if you were to donate and get even a different colored name, or any in game currency, or even diamonds, etc.. That is what is illegal.

Also from what I have seen, it looks like this has already been in place, just noone had enforced it. They are just starting to really enforce it now.

From what i see in this, it looks like they would be breaking their own EULA, by not allowing you to update. Since that is what you agreed to when you purchased Minecraft, that doesnt sound legal lol. I didn't see anything on that saying that they may change it in the future, so my question is, Can they do that?
  3. Worst comes to worst, the best idea I can come up with is to drop minecraft entirely. That's right, but don't worry now. We'll create a brand new game. One that's way cooler and better than Minecraft that we'll be able to do with as we please. Everything will work and look similar to how Minecraft is now, so to avoid legal issues every item will be given a recolour and called something different. Emerald Rock Wackers will become a thing. Supporter perks would remain unchanged and thus Empire Diggy Make-stufftm will live on as a beautiful, awful spin off. If you see a flaw in my plan please do bring it to my attention, as I am not a lawyer and do not care so much to actually read an EULA I don't have to agree to... yet.

  5. I support either way this goes, either we get a new kinda donation, get giving perk thing, or we cant, doesn't matter I ill still always donate to such a successful server. :D

  6. I bought the Beta version and the EULA was pretty well identical.
  7. The difference, I believe, was that beta get all future UPDATES were as alpha get all future VERSIONS.
  8. The problem is that mojang specifically mentions that modified versions of their code must follow their rules. We are using modified versions of their code so wouldn't that make the plugins and entire server subject to copyright?
  9. You should tweet Mojang that, obviously they are breaking there own EULA.

The thing is, the EULA hasn't really been updated yet, they are just trying to enforce it.
  10. So my Suggestion to buy perms to place tnt and light for your emc lifetime for 100k may actually happen! :D
  11. as one server owner said "This server will be up until there's a SWAT team at my door"

  12. Something I would like to know, why do people think minecraft would die in the 100% worst case scenario?
  13. Because most players only play multiplayer, usually on big servers, as single player gets boring easily. Worst case scenario would be servers shutting down, so people wouldn't want to play anymore.

  14. or untill they flip a switch that say " HAHA NOT TODAY "

On the Mc dying its simple it may not die out but it'll fall hard. Players love server as they offer communitys, new play styles etc, Mc claim oh we get 10k new sales aday. Now why do they get that , 99% of them are people buying alts to gain more of an advantage on servers they play on.

Now if they kill server in a way where they can not survive and die off then. people are not buying alts therefore minecraft would hit the ground.

  15. ...Just to point out.. Minecraft is a "clone" itself, or have people already forgotten about the free open-source game Infiniminer that came out in like 2006 or something like that, and has been credited for "inspiring" Minecraft.

..In the words of Futurama, they are trying to Momopolize on Minecraft Realms being the only "legal" source of dedicated servers for the playing of Minecraft via multiplayer. Next thing we know, we will lose the ability to use our own avatars in game and will need to buy skin packs like in the console versions of Minecraft..

  16. So if this did happen, would supporters lose their extra reses?
  17. That's debatable, remember that everything we are talking here is just talk, nothing has been confirmed.
Best to just wait until something official happens.

  18. Alright, thanks Rainbow
  19. Everyone calm down. EMC (and the other big servers) will survive this. We may need to alter what perks supporters get. TnT restriction looks like it will definitely be altered to either everyone or no-one can use. The number of reses, vault pages, stable slots should stay as these use additional server resources. Residence perks like enter/leave messages, number of tags, daily rupees and such are the ones we are currently in the dark over. We do not know what this EULA covers, some are even suggesting that there may be a server license that can be bought that will allow the major servers to operate as they currently do.
  20. Couldn't all supporter perks still exist, but just with a little work on both the EMC side and the players side? If paying for site perks is allowed, then we could set up pages with specific access for each supporter only. They will then play an incredibly easy game and be rewarded "Site Credits", with the amount being different for each supporter group. After completing the game, it will automatically redirect them to a page where they can redeem Site Credits at. This page will be one that everyone can access. Iron, gold, and diamond supporterships will cost, say, 500, 1000, and 2000 Site Credits. The site supporters who win credits in the game can either spend them, or save them. Also make it so that voting gives players credits at certain streaks.

Players are only paying for site extras. They are not guaranteed any supporter perks, but they have a very easy chance at earning them. The credits used to get supporter perks are not restricted to anyone, and everyone can earn them. I probably overlooked something incredibly obvious, so feel free to point out my stupidity. :D

I also have a tutorial like workaround idea...
