Empire Wild Policy - How to Register an Outpost

  1. It just crossed my mind (don't know if this has already been discussed) but what if someone had a substantial establishment in the Nether? Quite far from the spawn of course... If someone were to create let's say a gold farm 10'000 blocks out from spawn would that also be able to be claimed with the Empires feature is released?

What I'm asking is can Nether land be claimed and if so how far 10'000 blocks like frontier, more or less?
  2. i think the consensus is something along the lines of "if it can be claimed in the overworld it can be claimed in nether, so the minimum distance divided by 8

edit: or is it times 8....gah i hate math
  3. If we are 3000 blocks from another base in the Wild then we are 375 blocks from it in the Nether. I'm pretty sure this is far enough to avoid problems like Portal linking, but still may be too close for some people to feel secure and private without protections.

This reminds me of a problem I am currently having that fits the topic well enough that I'd like to bring it up here. Let me know if you would like me to pm you regarding the specifics.

I am currently trying to help someone run a Nether tunnel from their base that is 20k out on one of the servers to a nice private location near the Outpost. We have been trying locations that we can get to using a Boat or going to over land that is not all torn up. Everywhere we have tried to make a Portal at within one to three thousand blocks of the Outpost has linked up with existing portals.

So far I have not found one that actually looks like it has been recently used. Other than a small base and a couple of chests, these all look like they were put up then abandoned. Even the base looked like it may have been for mining and the Portal to the Nether an afterthought or experiment, since the Nether side wasn't developed.

Because we are not resetting the Wild, this is going to become a larger problem as time goes on. I'm wondering what the policy on a Portal is. Is there a way to determine that a Portal is not being used so I can take it down and move it? Should I adopt the Portal and maintain the area as my own?

I doubt anyone would complain about the latter as long as I kept it up well, but the fact that these look like they were put up then left abandoned, makes me believe I won't be able to count on the other party also maintaining them as diligently as I would.

I also am not happy with the placement of all of the dominant Portals I have found. They aren't all underground or covered so they are not very private. Even if I find one that I like the placement of and the owner is ok with sharing it, I now have essentially shared my base's location with that person and whoever finds or visits his base, as well as with anyone who links to our shared Portal in the future.

My current solution is to select one of these and offer to share it with the owner, then establish a base with a waypoint somewhere farther out with another Portal that is obfuscated somehow. It will work but I wasn't really expecting this project to be so difficult and am hoping there is an better solution.

  4. If you want to make portals link up, just do the math.

Place it in the overworld, then go to the right location in the nether:

    X: OverworldX/8
    Y: OverworldY
    Z: OverworldZ/8

And build a portal facing the same direction at that exact location.
  5. I'll try that. Even if it works this is going to become a larger problem as more people create outposts and try to connect them with Town.
  6. What do you mean by connecting them to town?
  7. They want to be able to travel between Town and the base in a fast and safe way. The tunnel "connects" the base to Town. They get the trip shortened by the 1/8 block ratio of the Nether to the Wild and are safe from mobs.
  8. Ah okay, so if the Portal from the frontier goes to the Nether and the frontier was claimable, so is that Nether area because of that portal?
Or is it just that when you claim something in the frontier it auto claims the comparison in the Nether?
    Or is it something else?
  9. I think that only nether bases are claimable, so you would have to build something in the nether and have that be a sizable chunk of your base. Because the nether is so important for travel, the number of claims should be minimized to allow for more efficient passages.

Also, the nether is also more dangerous than the overworld because you have ghasts. Lots of people will do silly things like try to tunnel out of your passage and get it blown up by the ghast, so if you haven't been playing for a few days or more, bring supplies to repair it the first time and don't be surprised if there are gaping holes.
  10. What if i make a Main base then have a bunch of tunnels going to other bases say 1k apart of each other, would i have to make multi bases?

  11. I would like to make a base but need help and materials...
  12. this is not rlly the right place to ask about that. this is more rules for establishing bases.

  13. Sorry if I missed it but when can we officially claim an area? also how big?
  14. The rules stated here are simply a prerequisite for the upcoming "Empires" update where you can claim, there is no official word yet on how much land you can claim or when it's coming out, but it will certainly be after Dragon tombs.

  15. Not readed all the 10 pages :O only last one sofar it sounds a bit confusing.
you have now established outposts, because people like to protect there work. Now i read about hard to get dragon eggs. so people cannot protect there work easy ? And what about existing established outposts, i guess the remain ?

But all this info can be old.
  16. protecting an outpost and establishing are not the same thing. to protect its assumed you have to beat the boss in dragon tombs and since that feature is not available yet and is meant to be a challenging experience it will be harder then establishing which only takes you following establishment rules and making a forum thread.

  17. Establishing = Just giving the 'leader' of an outpost control over certain things. It's pretty easy to get. All you need to do is just ask a staff member, they'll double check what requirements you have, and they mark your outpost as 'established'.

Protecting = Beating the Dragon boss in Dragon Tombs, getting the egg, and spending it on land protection. Protected land, last time I heard, is bigger than a Utopia Residence (at max of course, I believe Aikar stated you can customize how much land you want) and has flags.
  18. The establishing i know, done it myself. The dragon egg sounds intressting battle. With as extra the egg.

  19. But you don't get the egg, right? You just earn many tokens.
