Give us YOUR input on the pending land claiming process!

  1. hmmm... just thinking 'out loud' ... I don't know any of the tech side of that but from this side it sounds like an ok plan. Maybe use those tokens to acquire more claim blocks? Those blocks would have to be enough to enlarge your claim on at least two sides equally.

edited to add that the original would need to be a certain size, like bigger than what you can get in town cause we are talking a community. One problem with it of course is when and if that person leaves then who would be able own it if anyone. that person could also kick anyone out at any time and , and, and, etc. Sorry  for even posting.. I believe it still leaves much more to think about and through more thoroughly. It's mind boggling the things that need to be considered when implementing something like this.

  4. "land claiming" refers to the frontier right?
  5. Claiming land will be in the Frontier Overworld only, so you're correct.
  6. Wait? So in the nether we won't have a 1/8th region under protection? d'oh!

  7. Why wont we be able to claim land in the nether?
  8. My guess:

Claiming land is primarily for Empires, which are wild bases that are supposed to be geared around players building and playing in communities. Most people don't build communities in the Nether.

Land claiming was never meant to protect your blaze spawner or wither farm. ;)

  10. As true and understandable as this is, I have set up quite the successful nether-side that houses important infrastructure to my Empire. I plan on adding more. :) The blaze spawner I anticipate controlling has been on my radar since about the second week of my Empire's official recognition -- the end of January. I have not acted on it as it's secondary goal. So my hope is that there will be some future (not necessarily cheap!) method for claiming the nether-side of my operation. I think an eight fold cost increase over the overworld would be more than fair.

  12. I think it has more to do with the relative size of the Nether. 3000 blocks in the overworld translates to 375 blocks in the Nether, which puts any potential neighbors right on top of you. Plus it is probably a pain researching both maps for outpost claims. Then there is also the current Residence system I understand they are adapting for this.

A large number of people have found my bases and entered through the Nether though. The Nether is intimately linked to nearly every base where I've played by tunnels and rails. It's been said that people should be able to move around in our builds once we can claim areas out of fairness and I've had this picture in my mind of me exploring other's bases and farms soon, people opening up their outposts to more players playing with them, and generally more open play in and discussion of these places without the worry we have now.

If people are left with the prospect of leaving some of these areas vulnerable and if we have to worry that someone could do something irreversible like destroy a spawner, mine or build in the wrong place and mess up a farm, or do any other of many things I can think of, this won't happen.

We'll have the same bunker mentality we have now. Closed groups, portals with walls built around them and access doors. Screenshots with coordinates blanked out if they are shared at all. Aikar has stated plans that will encourage us to play together more often and in larger groups. I think feeling that our creations are safe wherever they are needs to be a part of those plans.

  13. I don't believe any statement have been made from the staff regarding the nether claiming. Point being, I do not think it is out of the question necessarily, but the rules would be a bit different for some of the above mentioned reasons.

Edit: Oh, and lock signs work for spawners :)
  14. Since they are a rare, limited resource and whole outposts are built around them I understandably feel protective of them. I only learned I could Lock them recently. The only documentation I know of is a sneaky picture at the bottom of the Wiki page on Locking. I assumed it was some sort of pseudo Easter Egg you guys wanted to control access to so I've kept it to myself. I've Locked one Spawner so far, which was in a grinder I built for a friend after another nearby one was destroyed. I think being able to include the area around it would be desirable for many of us.

  15. It is not necessarily a secret - was released in a mini-update probably 6 months ago...ish.

  16. Can you link it? I can't find it in the Forum or on tracker.
  17. Someone else will have to find it. It had been quite a while though
  18. I wasn't aware of the possibility to lock spawners either (...if I had known this before...;))

  19. Cleared it up a bit on the Wiki Locking items page by adding a header for that picture. Sorry for any confusion.
