EMC and the Microsoft Acquisition

  1. Maybe they would make mods avail for purchase and easy install. Cause I would love to use mods but the install is such a pain
  2. The hardest thing with people installing mods, is 'finding' the folder... installing the mod itself is just putting the mod in the mods folder... Unless if you need liteloader or forge mod loader... (if you need one of those... you just have to download it... then double click on it... then use that version of jar in the versions selector in your settings)

I don't like the dlc idea ... because when I bought the game it was final, everything from that point on would be free...

If I have to pay for things that the community could do for free... that's the same as:

Me buying a car; the dealer telling me I get free tires for life ...

The dealership changes owners; that new owner tells me I now have to pay to change my tires...

even though when I initially bought it, that wasn't what I agreed to.

  3. They won't ever "force" skin packs. Like, as in, you need to buy a skin pack before you can start playing.
  4. Given the price they are paying, I don't think they are after anything as straight forward as licencing although there will be a lot more of that to come. They may try some sort of change to get more licencing money but I think that would only give them a black eye.

I understand that Minecraft ranks at the top of the most played games on XBox Live. Since it runs on multiple platforms this gives them the opportunity to swap that Mojang splash screen out for one that says Microsoft on every installation out there as well as a way to collect information about what people are using and how as well as use it as a tool to push ads out or encourage use of Realms.

I have also seen several news articles about Minecraft being used in schools. When I consider that companies like MS and Adobe provide software to schools and students at a discount then charge full price to people outside of educational institutions (after they have been trained to use the software), it occurs to me that Microsoft may be positioning itself to take advantage of any future developments in the use of Minecraft as a learning tool. I know plenty of people who initially learned to use Excel, Flash, and so forth in school with a student's version then went on to working every day with the full version. If more and more students are exposed to Minecraft at school more of them will want it to use at home.

It might be nice to see a non-java version of the server and client come out along with a formalization of the modding process although they will probably want to licence tools. Ultimately if they embrace the do it yourself side of the community and throw some of their weight behind making it easier to customize it would be great.

  5. Minecraft is already in schools in Europe and being used as an educational tool. It is in the very early stage and I agree that Microsoft will make use of this.
  6. I want to see that in the U.S.
Also has Microsoft told anyone there plains to break even by the end of this 2015. I could see them showing adds every time you open up MC or placing adds on the sides when you click the server you want to play on. If they did anything like charge to update/DLC then they would have millions of players ragging at them.
Another thing, since Mojang owned bukkit, and now Microsft owns Mojang there for bukkit, does this mean bukkit might come back, or do we still have to wait for sponge to soak up the problem, no offence to the people on sponge i know it's going to take a while, but i do think it would be better if we had bukkit back.
  7. Its already used around the world.

    What?

Microsoft like ads. But they don't put ads in-game.

Microsoft wouldn't dare do that. They're not a stupid company and can easily see that if they put DLC/Charged updates in they'd have some massive backlash.

As the way Bukkit was taken down with a DMCA notice and Microsoft now owning Bukkit they'd most likely try and get rid of the DMCA notice. Microsoft are so powerful and don't mess around. After the clean-up Microsoft will for sure be changing licensing and control over how Bukkit is ran to prevent this. Just look at the ToS for any Microsoft service.

  8. Thanks for the update. Good to know!
  9. First bit of goodish news for the YouTube community, Phil Spencer head of xbox said on Twitter:

"Minecraft YouTubers, you’re a great part of Minecraft’s success and we have no plans to change what you’re doing once we close the deal."

  10. You're the one that took out my army of bombadiers with your archers, aren't you!

    :p
  11. Well, I was a highly addicted and competitive CBA mod player which didn't allow bombardiers ;p
