  1. It'll just take some time to get it all to the building site...

  2. I will pick it up from town if need be.

  4. Sure!
First tent is up. I decided to go exploring the borders of LLO. Here's the first two days progress: 2013-05-26_10.47.01.png 2013-05-26_10.47.20.png 2013-05-26_10.57.34.png 2013-05-26_11.01.10.png 2013-05-26_11.01.14.png

  5. How far away from the LLO is it? If you send me the coords, I will pick it up.

  9. I can drop off some smooth stone. I've been using a silk touch pick for a while as my main pick. Also, I've got a ton of cobble. I could bring it downtown and have a baking fest.

Can someone run a pilot line of dirt along the center of the proposed route at the desired height? I think this bridge should be fairly elevated based on the pictures. If I know where the North/South bridge is going to terminate, I can start work on a gate in the wall there, and a roadway/approach.

EDIT: Do you want to go through the wall elevated or at ground height?

  10. I'm planning on building something close to the end of the bridge near the wall. So, if you do build that rout if you can have a bit that branches of to the east by the wall I can take it from there.

EDIT: Or you could just make a station with some stairs depending on if it's elevated there or not.

  11. Awesome. I can set up a locked chest at the northern end of the bridge for you or I can pick it up from where ever you are smelting it.

The bridge will be about 30 blocks high (from the water) at the towers. The elevation at each end of the bridge will be about 20, so you can start building the entrance at that height. I'll set up some markers so that you can start building.

    Elevated :)

  12. Here are some more pictures from creative mode. It looks OK I guess. It's hard to build thin cables when all you have are bulky blocks.

I'm still working on the lighting, but it's pretty much done. I think I'll scratch the redstone maintenance walkway. Not real comfortable using redstone blocks because of their loot-ability.

    UPDATED MATERIALS LIST:

    4-5 DCs of smooth stone
40 stacks of smooth stone slabs
    15 stacks of rails
    1 stack of powered rails
    1 stack of redstone torches
10 2 stacks of nether brick
    2 stacks of nether fence
    6 stacks of wooden fence
    2 stacks of blue wool
    2 stacks of purple wool
30 10 stacks of cobblestone slabs
    1 stack of cobblestone
    10 stacks of pine leaves
    10 stacks of birch leaves
    20 stacks of iron fence

  13. I put up some oak plank blocks marking where the bridge should end.

  14. What about half blocks at the top of the cables to keep the spawn down? Also, you could probably soften it a bit with stair blocks...

  15. I'm going to put torches on the sides of the cables. This will keep the light level high enough to prevent mob spawning. There's no stair block that matches the smooth stone slab texture.

  16. I think this is a bit far from the construction?

  17. Throw a chest at the south end. This is where we should build the temp construction camp. (unless we want one at each end) You can get here through the tower portal network pretty easily. I'll throw up some stairs/ladder/water to get down from the top of the wall.

I'm thinking the gate should have some elements of Charlston architecture. I'm thinking either the old City Hall or the Custom House I'm don't generally cotton to Southern Colonial colonades, but stuff like this seems somewhat appropriate. Also, for non-Americans, "cotton to" means "like" in The South.

There is a lot of Southern design (ironwork for instance) that makes sense for the Northern swamp end of the bridge, and less so for the Southern end.

  18. As a sidenote, I fixed the circuitry at the upper/L9 rail so that it works again. I don't believe I will be building any more of these types of connections. They're fragile and complex. I keep thinking that it can be simplified, and still maintain the existing functionality, but in practice it doesn't seem to be the case...
