  2. ^ Agreed!

    So... surprisingly....
Star Wars And LotR are tied rn! :O ... and still no votes for DC. :lmao:

  3. I broke the tie and voted Star Wars. Even though I hate the prequels. But I hate the Hobbit movies more so I couldn't vote for LOTR with the Hobbit there too, otherwise I'd vote for LOTR too and they'd still be tied :D
  4. I voted for LOTR regardless of the hobbit movies, I never even watched them
to be fair even though they're both very close together I don't think the hobbit movies should be paired with the LOTR movies for obvious reasons
(Seriously, the hobbit is like a 150-200 page book, you don't need to put that into three separate movies you greedy hogs)
  5. An interesting turn of events! LotR and Hobbit in the lead, beating Star Wars by 3 votes!!
  6. Bumperoo! Don't stop voting! :D
  7. Bump! LotR is still in the lead!
  8. GOOD.

  9. Interesting. My favourite to watch is also Part II, because of all the "Oooooh" moments. However, I would say that Part III is probably the best, and I had expected you would agree. Not sure why, but I do recall reading about reviews that said Part III was the best. :p

  10. One thing's for sure, if somehow the Artemis Fowl movie gets a sequel... it will probably be the worst series/trilogy/saga ever made.

  11. None of the above for me.... Not really into star wars anymore b/c of the last movies and the rest is more about action and less story I think, not my cup of tea.

My fav. is Twilight Saga. Lots of story, good atmosphere, romances and some good action scenes.

  12. It was either that or James Bond... lol
I can't fit more than 10 poll options

P.S. A very close relative of mine wrote a song that was put into one of the Twilight films :D

  13. I remember when it was cool to hate Twilight way back in junior high
Now I think the author has been exposed as a racist so whatchu gonna do

  14. Wondering what defies to be 'racist' these days, the paradigm constantly shifts. Call a black person black? ur a racist!

I wonder how long it'll take b4 ur called a racist for just enjoying this movies, b/c thats what were heading for i think.

and b4 someone thinks im exaggerating... Students in several different US universities called out their teachers for being racist simply b/c they got bad grades. during their campaign where they denied white students access, i wonder who's the racist now. ofc live is easy if u can just bully other ppl to ur wishes.

that is my thought on the matter.

i know bigotry, i know prejudice, im a Japanese woman in a country where ppl abused Chinese students bc/ they were Asian and Corona came from Asian so...... i got stares in public transport too when i wore a mask b4 it was demanded and i still get stares when i do it now.

Thats not racism, its prejudice and its very easy to stand above that. unless ur a crybaby.

soz, ur post hit a nerve
  15. I'm surprised that Twilight actually got mentioned in here. I remember that I was just entering high school when the first one was released. I remember all the late 2000s memes about it and how no one liked it back then. I assume the series got better? I remember watching it in high school and being bored out of mind when I was watching it. I guess it wasn't for me.

Nevertheless, I think it's interesting that the series was brought up in this thread. It's a name that I haven't heard for a very long time. :D

  16. Why not just call a person a person and not worry about anything else. That paradigm has never shifted.

  17. Can be, but I think this is the wrong place to act upon it. :) Because it's off-topic, but moreover because it's controversial and this is not in the controversial section.
I was also surprised as I had forgot about it. However, I feel like its impopularity being a meme is a reason to think that it must have been somewhat popular, as otherwise it wouldn't have been talked about back then. ;) Although I suppose that doesn't always apply to films, thinking of The Emoji Movie and Cats... I do know a girl that liked the books back in 2012, but that's also a while ago. :p

  19. Over the past week I rewatched the entire Alien franchise, including Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection (which I watched for the first time). I thought, might as well update my thoughts on this franchise.

Alien, the first film, is as brilliant as I praised it for being before. I absolutely encourage sci-fi and horror fans alike to check out this movie if, for some reason, you've yet to see it. It is, by all means, a masterpiece. Ridley Scott is brilliant at exploring themes of corporate schemes, the danger of discovery, and the value of life all while thrilling us with a claustrophobic nightmare on the brilliantly designed Nostromo starfreighter. Seriously... 10/10 film right there.

On rewatch I don't like Aliens as much as I remembered. James Cameron still delivers a strong sequel with many great moments. Sigourney Weaver's Ripley gets fantastic character development and so many moments to shine as one of cinema's coolest protagonists. However, Cameron takes the force of terror that the Xenomorph was in Alien ("the perfect organism") and turns them into cannon fodder. Sure, great action, but the Xenomorphs feel reduced. Nonetheless, Cameron continues the exploration of corporate schemes, brings back the brilliant designs of the franchise, and gives us some very iconic moments.

Then David Fincher's Alien 3 happens. It's hard to say it's David Fincher's, because there was a lot of studio interference. Apparently they spent millions of dollars on something like 10 different writers before finally settling with David Fincher. Then Sigourney Weaver also had demands of her own if she was to return. One of them was "no guns," which this movie does, and it works out so well. Alien 3 is a return to the claustrophobic terror that made the first movie so thrilling. The movie is more of a character study than any other film in the franchise, and gives us (in my opinion) Ripley's best moments. I really wish they had stopped at three, because it would've been a great way to tie the franchise together. Unfortunately, the movie is brought down by a very messy structure, the weakest effects in the series, and a bunch of unlikable hard to bare side-characters. I would still recommend this movie to fans of the franchise though (but watch the Assembly Cut).

Money is money and they had to make Alien: Resurrection. This was Jean-Pierre Jeunet's first English language film, and the screenplay was written by Joss Whedon. Uhhh, yeah. Jeunet is very competent but Whedon's screenplay did not match the vision Jeunet had. Naturally, this creates a massive confusion in what the movie's tone is supposed to be. Of course, Whedon blames Jeunet for this, as he often blames others. I don't this Resurrection is atrocious, it has some good moments and explores some interesting themes. Although, if you've seen Avengers then you know how Whedon writes his screenplays. That turns this movie from a dark Alien film, to a hard-to-take-serious off-tone comedy? I also don't want to get into spoilers, but there's no reason this movie should even exist in the first place.

Thankfully I got to rewatch Prometheus (the Alien prequel) next. Ridley Scott's return to franchise is amazing. My thoughts on Prometheus have only grown more positive. Scott explores so many themes (faith vs science, creation of life, meeting your creator, the horror of creation, human failure, corporate scheming, greed, the value of life, the value of artificial life (AI), discovery, the cost of exploration) all competently and in a two hour movie that doesn't feel rushed. This is what sci-fi should be, not the beams in the sky as faceless aliens attack New York. Ridley Scott has a vision, and while Prometheus has some flaws in the character department, this movie is solid.

Alien: Covenant, Scott's sequel to Prometheus is also pretty good. Not as good as the prior, but still has its moments. Covenant is rich with beautiful environments and horrifying moments. It's gory, it's ominous, and it's an Alien movie. It has flaws, especially with predictability and overall structure, but it makes up for those with a continuous exploration of Prometheus's themes and a spectacular set of performances. Michael Fassbender, that's all you need to know. If the themes of Scott's prequels don't resonate with you, they're worth watching just for Fassbender's performance.

Anyway, that's my long continuation of my thoughts on the Alien franchise. I think this thread is awesome, and I don't want to see it die down, so I'll be more than happy to update every time I rewatch a series/trilogy/saga or watch a new series/trilogy/saga. If you haven't already seen the Alien franchise, do yourself a favour and watch the first one. Alien is a must watch. The others just depend on how much you like the first.
