What is your biggest pet peeve?

  1. I use the Welsh names for places in Wales out of choice. For example I call the Welsh mountain of Snowdon 'Yr Wyddfa', the Welsh seaside town of Barmouth 'Abermaw' (this is were my family comes from lol), the county of Anglesey is 'Ynys Môn', and so on. This isn't because I'm trying to sound pretentious, but because my grandmother taught me to do it out of respect for the country (she comes from the heartlands of Wales, where Welsh nationalism is a big thing - you don't see that in South Wales or North-Eastern Wales) - the English place names are an attempt at colonial Anglicisation. Plus, the English names make no sense, seeing as there's places nearby to Barmouth/Abermaw with names like Pwllhelli and it's located in a county called Gwynedd, which clearly aren't English words. I assume you'll grant me an exception? :p

  2. your profile picture nah jk waiting for updates for games
  3. :p If it's a respect thing, of course... my annoyance mainly comes with people who clearly have no long-lasting relation or association with the country and are using the words just to demonstrate their "worldliness" so to speak... and believe me, it's typically very obvious who those rare people are.

  5. Definitely number 9, especially since that's all you hear on the radio, along with the teens and young adults that worship the "rappers" like gods.
  6. When people tell you to do something they should be doing because they're too lazy to do it themselves.
  7. Hooray! :p

Totally understand your point though. It really annoys me too. I see people do it all the time in England (or should I say Angleland ;))- I can't wait to go to Deutschland and get away from these pretentious nutjobs. Hopefully I don't bump into too many English people who do it when I go on holiday to España next year, either. This trait is just one of those things that makes me really sympathise with the country of France and their centuries long hatred of the English.

Last one doesn't count because English decided to use the word 'France' as a loanword rather than stick with calling it Frankreich like the rest of Germanic countries. Damn it.

  10. What is wrong with that? I literally always do that when I can, it's so much easier, and you can ensure you won't have too many or yoo little.

A pet peeve of mine: the word dips/dipping. Just really dislike it for some reason. Especially when it's used in Dutch even though we have better proper words to use instead.
  11. Ah, phew. When you gave it as a pet peeve I thought "Doesn't she realise how sad it is?", but looks like you do. :)

Actually, I used to have that on. :p You can always turn it off, though. And I'm not even sure if it works anymore. I don't think I ever turned it off, and yet I don't get notified anymore when someone has received my message.
Nope, I checked just now, and it's still waiting on 'delivery details' on all recently sent messages, even those that I'm sure have been read.

    'onderdompelen'? :p

  12. The problem with that is nobody texts via SMS anymore. The last time I sent a message through there to have an actual conversation, other than to annoy my mum or dad with requests for stuff and vice versa, was in 2013. I don't even have too many people's phone numbers either.
  13. I am so glad this is a thread that exists. I could go on for hours.

    • People who leave the caps off two litre bottles of Coke and practically let the whole thing go flat.
    • People who charge their phones up to ninety percent then unplug them. Just charge the damn phone all the way!
    • Walmart. The entirety of it + a solid 70-80% of the people that shop there regularly. That is all I will say.
    • People who add stuff such as "XxX__" to the beginning and ends of their usernames. STOP THIS. PLEASE.
    • Phones (especially iPhones) that turn off and die at percentages that are not 1%.
    • Awkward hugs.
  14. Or when my phone turns off after only a minute of being at 1%, while the other %s took much longer :/

Interesting. In the Netherlands most people use Whatsapp so you do still have everyone's phone number, and also if you are in a group with for example your class, you'll immediately have all numbers.

:p it's when the word is used in relation to food when it bothers me.

"Dips (voor chips)" (dips for crisps) ... no! Just call is "sauzen" (sauces) or whatever, but not dips, please. :D

  15. Everyone uses WhatsApp here too but for some reason, in my particular region of the UK at least, everyone just defaults to Facebook Messenger or Snapchat and doesn't really bother handing out their phone number besides for professional purposes. I have one but only really use it for one person who doesn't have any social media besides Twitter (I'm not using Twitter DMs to talk constantly), and who I was talking to at a time before European roaming charges/texts abroad were abolished, and to send good quality videos and pictures to my mum when the need arises.

  16. Alright, I guess it's my turn to weigh in here. I have quite a few pet peeves. (sorry in advance if you are reading this Moose, I still love you)

-When there is a standard procedure for how something is done and someone blatantly does something different, then claim they didn't 'know' there was a standard for it.
-When a person is treated differently in the same situation as you.
-People that think they are owed something for nothing.
-Erasing history for no good reason other than to appease a small group of people. That being said, thinking you can EVER please everyone without sacrificing the greater good.
-When there is a hamper and clothes end up right next to it.
-Not putting a toilet paper roll ON the dispenser and leaving it on the back of the toilet.
-Not throwing away empty toilet paper rolls and letting them pile up on the back of the toilet.
-People who stuff the trash so full that you can't close the lid, but refuse to take it out if they are the person who passes the 'closing point'.
-People who throw real trash in a recycling can (non-recycleables)
    -Slow/meandering walkers
-People rushing wait staff or being rude to them with no just cause. Especially if you can obviously see the person is busy.
-People who think any sort of wealth puts them above another person and act like it. In-game or irl.
-The 'let me speak to your manager' crowd.

    hmm...
Come to think of it, I have quite a bit that bothers me. Maybe I need to work on that.
  17. Besides delivery receipts not being given anymore, I've also noticed that sending pictures doesn't work anymore.
I mean, it's cool that many phones have got internet now... but I am still disappointed by existing features disappearing.
I've found another pet peeve: people not sticking to the guidelines while playing my forum game The Association Thread. :p

  19. Messier and misses half the fries with the ketchup. But most of my food "pet peeves" are less pet peeves than they are idle preferences... I would never get irritated with someone for eating oddly (unless they complained loudly enough about their bread crusts, which is where that particular peeve arises). Hell, with the pizza one, I'd have to be irritated at all of New York, though maybe that one's deserved.

My more irritable pet peeves include things like hypocrisy, saying things using far more words and time than necessary (as a long writer myself, I am particularly aware of this in my effort not to be a hypocrite, haha), and really anyone who believes they are better than another and shows it.

Interesting, that must be a culture difference. At least in the U.S., we would never call a chip/crisp dip a sauce simply because it's too thick. Sauces and dips are entirely different foods here.

  20. Ooo I've been wanting a thread like this for a while! Thanks for creating it! :D

Anywayyy... Here are my pet peeves in no particular order:
    - Outdated periodic tables (this actually comes up a lot)
    - Overpowered characters or "Mary Sues"
    - People snapping their fingers
    - People chewing with their mouth open
    - The sound of fingernails on paper
    - Any kind of loud noise

More might be added soon if I think of any more!
