  4. Next update will fix the keepitems message thing. Nothing mechanically wrong - just an invalid error message.

Just added in some more improvements that will go in the next update. Honestly not completely sure why it is trigger in that video - but maybe the improvements will help.

  5. Sounds good. Now that I found out how to capture I can post more vid's if I find anything.

  6. Yeah; My most recent changes effected all mobs. So I probably won't listen much more until the next update rolls out.

  7. Ok, collective changelog of recent updates:
    • Beds have been modified from how they behave on Vanilla. Now they will search for a safe place to respawn you up to 3 blocks away from the bed instead of just 1. This will get rid of the issue of players placing a bed, getting spawn message set, yet the bed not working.
    • Should you manage to discover a way to set your bed spawn and STILL have it be unsafe, It will now tell you when you set your bed.
    • Reduced combat restriction for setting bed spawn to 1 minute
    • Reduced nearby hostile checks to 8 instead of 16 (matches Vanilla)
    • Fixed remaining firework issues
    • Eyender damage has been reduced
    • Enraged Polar Bear damage has been reduced
    • Made Enraged Slime/Cubes stronger
    • Adjusted methods of Enraged Silverfish spawning (now more likely)
    • Risk Gauge has been tweaked to reduce false positives
    • Fixed no permission errors on death
    • Placing containers on a res now requires container permission
    • You may now change your difficulty when you are in an Outpost or Town regardless of difficulty lock
    • Turkeys and Blizz Ard should no longer try to teleport out of trapped areas
    • (should of) fixed issue with Momentus and other bosses disappearing when hitting water
    • No longer lose EXP in Town
    • /vote fixitem will now repair name on Voter Banners
    • Updated the Residence Flag Set UI to have better mob heads on some of the GUI icons
    • Added tame:parrot subflag
    • Added teleport as an alias to tp
    • Group Difficulty now acts as a minimum. A player can still choose to play higher than the groups level
And something that was released in the initial Update but totally forgot to include it in the post!

    Groups Purpose
You may now set /gr purpose <reason for the group, what activity you are performing, etc> that will be told to users when they are invited.

    Public Group Announcements
If you make your group public (/gr public - which allows anyone to join without an invite), it will announce to players nearby the leader who are not in a group, as well as what the purpose is.
There is a player setting to turn off seeing these public group announcements.

    ----------------------

I also want to note, these bosses are SUPPOSE to be harder than the previous ones. Our goal is a challenge. If someone who is good at combat is able to survive and kill the boss on difficulty 5 with great armor, then the balance is where we want it.

If you engage a boss even on difficulty 5, without armor, you should be destroyed. Defeating a boss with Voters Armor should be very difficult and result in a few deaths.

Sorgina's fight is less forgiving to death... So account for that. Be prepared.

and above all else, bring a friend...

  8. So, uh, what does this mean? :p

  9. So doe that mean we can get one back if it teleported into a block and died?:p
  10. Apparently not. They were replaced last time this happened but won't be this time.

  11. Vanilla's mob check was 8 distance, I had mad EMC's 16 not realizing it was 8 (as most things are 16 when it comes to aggression, so you could figure, you're at risk of being attacked if something is within 16)

Though that made it less clear when peoples beds are near their mob farms, so reduced it to the vanilla value to reduce chance of that.

As for Event Mobs, any replacement in past was out of SS's kindness. Trapping event mobs as pets is not a 'supported' feature. They are hostile and meant to be temporary, so they are not subject to replacement.
  12. I apologize if I may have misunderstood.

To make sure I understand this right, if you can't find your items and it gets close to an hour, then you need to stay logged out or they will despawn. If you have an alt, the alt can go get them. If you don't have an alt, you can ask another player to help you. The alt or other player have 1 day (24 hours) from when you died to find the items. Only players who you have vouched can pick them up, unless they will wait the full day and pick them up in that exact 15 minutes. You can vouch for them cross-server and hope they are honest about what items they recovered. If they claimed that some items were destroyed in lava, there would be no way to validate that claim.

    I have some questions:
    1) Will the other player recovering your items have visibility into when the 15 minute window starts?
    2) Do you get notified of which items despawned or just that some items despawned?
    3) Is there any notification if items are destroyed for other reasons such as lava?
    4) Do you have to be on the server you died on to vouch for another player or can that be done on any server?

  13. I finally ventured out of town to check out the new updates today. Shortly after leaving the outpost an enraged spider spawned (saw it spawn, definitely was not there prior to my arrival). I was in a fairly open area but after a couple of hits it generated the "this monster triggered low risk detection, chance of rewards reduced" message. Unsure why this would be. My difficulty was set at 5 and had not been changed recently, there was no water or other nearby obstructions, and no other players in the vicinity. Glancing through previous posts it looks like risk gauge was tweaked again last night or early this am. Not sure if this was a bug/unintended response or if something about the new settings meant I did something to lower my reward chance, that prior to this update was not a factor. Anyone able to clarify?

Update: I hopped to the nearest outpost to recover and the server crashed or was rebooted. When it came back online said spider was (and currently still is) at waste south on SMP4. Of course since he is now in the safe zone and no longer locked on to me all I can do is watch him hang out with the Eyender that is also chilling in the safe zone, lol, so I am unable to continue fighting to see if rewards are still reduced.

  14. So the charged pearl... I made one to kill an Eyender that ended up being bugged and erased. However, I can't put the pearl in a chest or vault for later use. Is that intentional?

I should mention there's no timer or expiration date on it currently.

EDIT: I had logged off and upon logging on now, the pearl is gone. Again, no expiration time or anything was every on it.

EDIT EDIT: I just killed an Enraged Enderman and got one that did have an expiration time in 4 minutes. So when we craft one, they don't have an expiration, but do expire?

  15. Thank you!

Now this is balanced gameplay. Sorry for a mini-rant, it's needed because I've outed myself very critical regarding the bed restrictions "elsewhere".

    This gets my 100% support.

See, my grievance with the previous 5 minute delay was simple: you don't have control over if you get attacked by mobs or not. And an attack usually accounts for "being in combat". So even if you were careful you'd still risk having to wait for 5 minutes before you could continue your game.

Sure: if you're close to spawn, who cares. But I usually mine my own business 500+ blocks away from spawn. Meaning that if I get killed without setting a bed... it's not pretty :) So then having to wait for 5 minutes "because reasons".. I was not a fan :D

But this new setup I fully support.

Yes, it can be an annoyance, but that's the whole idea. The advantage which we have in comparison to vanilla is that you don't have to wait for nightfall (aka the "dangerous period") before you can set your bed. You can do that any time you'd like. The downside... Stay out of combat. Or pay the price.

This is good. This is a setback but it doesn't turn your game into a boring chore "because".

    This. is. awesome!

I am a huge fan of groups, I use them nearly all the time and I like this. More options for groups, I'm an automatic fan :) Now I can invite people into a private group while they'll know up front what the whole idea is. This rocks!

    Fair enough, but....

Why call the whole lot boss in the first place if one is more difficult than the other? Why not have kept the mini-bosses (Momentus & Marlix?) description around which an individual player could best (also with the idea that this should be possible!) and introduce the new lot as bosses?

Instead all of a sudden everything is a boss and one boss is nearly impossible to defeat on your own at normal difficulty (even with the best armor and best weapons in the game) while the other can be a walk over.

We already established that Momentus and Marlix were mini bosses, why not have kept it that way and introduced the new bunch as "the (real) EMC bosses"? I think that could have prevented plenty of weird ideas and impressions.

Now... maybe this isn't a fair comment (don't think too much of this) just speaking my mind. But I cannot help wonder..

The EMC system protects players from just about everything. Dying in town? not possible (normally). People taking your stuff after you died in waste/frontier? not possible (under conditions). So much which the system already does to protect us.

As such I sometimes can't help wonder: If a boss is meant to be fought by a group, why not protect players from themselves and insist they are in a group (aka: /invite) before acknowledging their attack?

An extension of my "bosses and mini-bosses" idea above.

So if an individual attacks a real boss they'll be warned that they really should get help. And if we then "cheat" the system by inviting a non-existing player thus creating our own individual group we deserve to get everything that's coming to us. If a boss destroys me, that's fair game because it's fully on me.

But in this situation we have bosses and one just so happens to be stronger than another. Because.. reasons. And for new players there's no way to tell up front.

    Maybe food for thought?

    Anyway, just my 2 cents.

One way or the other, criticism or not, thanks a bunch for all the hard work. I may not agree on all points, but I'll always respect and admire the effort that goes into all this.
  16. I can answer this with 90% certainty: yes.

Reason for my conclusion: block protection. I tested this: when I vouch on behalf of Aya for my alt TheOtherShell all goes well, even if Aya is playing on another SMP. But as soon as she came onto SMP2: game over. No more vouch legitimacy because the owner came online.

You also don't get warnings about people breaking blocks if that happens on another server.

As such my conclusion: pretty sure it's all "same server" only.
  17. It sounds like a lot of hard work went into this :0 nice job!
  18. Fun update! I have encountered numerous of these mobs already, killing them for their drops. Thanks Aikar, Krysyy, and the Dev team!
  19. Okay so interesting... To get your items back after 1 hour, you will have to have your alt or the other player wait around in that location for 23 hours and then hope they snag the items in the 15 minute window.
  20. No, you can vouch your alt when that system is fully correct, or be friends with them, and pick it up.

also soon as I can get it updated, the 1 hour window is only a concern if the chunk is loaded, so if you make your way back, you still have some time before it despawns (note, it's not this way yet, but within next few updates)
