  1. As the thread title states, when do you consider someone an "Empire Elder" in terms of days.
This question is not related to the Empire Elder Trophy awarded after being on the forums for 5 years.

Being, myself, well over 1500 days old on EMC, I'm starting to wonder whether I myself am an elder in the community.

The Community's Answers to this Question May or May Not Influence The Outcome of a Project that I've Been Working On ;)

(Notice: Messed up on the Poll (Meant to have more options), just post your answers below )
Thanks to AlexC__ for fixing the poll :D

  2. I would say you're old enough, but it may raise of the question of generational elders as well. Someone who is 750 days old right now is not as old as, say you, who is 1,500 days old.

    - An old, you could say, "traditional" elder, probably 1,250 days or older?
    - An old, "modern" elder, maybe 750 days?

Just my ideas, because i know that lots of things have changed in the past couple years (letalone since EMC's inception.)

  3. 5 years, anything under is hard as you usually have not seen EMC alter or change.

  4. 3years + Well I mean, this depends most on EMC experience than having connected a certain date.

Empire Elder would be imo accumulate 700hours+ per year on EMC. That is a lot of experience.

  5. After 100 days, you've seen pretty much all there is on here. 50 days, if you have no job.

  6. What options do you want to be added?

  7. The options were supposed to be the following:
    • 365 Days (1 Year)
    • 500 Days
    • 730 Days (2 Years)
    • 750 Days
    • 1000 days
    • 1095 Days (3 Years)
    • 1250 days
    • 1460 Days (4 Years)
    • 1500 Days or Higher
If having that many options is a problem, feel free to cut it down to the year marks and 1500+ :)

  8. I'd definitely say over 1500 days. I do feel like an elder myself, at this point, and you feel like one to me as well; I was surprised to find your join date.

  9. In my opinion, it's a mixture of both age and experience, not one or the other.

A player who has been here 6 years, but has only played occasionally, would not be an Empire Elder. The age itself doesn't matter if they don't have the experience to back it up with.

However, a player who has been here for only 1 year, but in that year they put tons of hours (think 1500+ hours, that's around 28-30 hours a week, so a part-time job almost), they would have the experience, but not the age to put the experience behind. Like Finch said earlier and I 100% agree with, at that age you have not been a part of some of EMC's major changes.

As such, I would agree the most with Tuq's answer.

I think that in most cases, these players are elders in the sense that they are familiar with EMC, its community, the atmosphere, they have been part of some of EMC's major changes, and they have had plenty of EMC experience to back it all up.

I just hit my 3 year mark on EMC about a month ago, though I still wouldn't consider myself an Empire Elder, tbh. I feel like being staff artificially "ages" you in the eyes of the players. What I mean is, players automatically attribute age and experience to the green name, despite however old and experienced the player is before being greened.

For myself, I think I would feel more comfortable with such a title when I hit my 2 years as staff, which is in August. While I could see some arguing that my activity as both a player and staff member has given me enough credibility to earn that title, there are a few different reasons, mostly relating to the area of "experience" on EMC, why I believe I have not earned it yet. There are still certain things that I have not done yet that I plan to do by time I hit my 2 years as staff, which would further give me that credibility.

    Anyways, that's just my 2 cents ;)
  10. I feel like it changes with how old EMC is too. Let's say, 5 years from now, there's someone who's been here for 5 years but also someone who's been here for 10 years. Would the person who's been here for 5 years still count?

  11. Yeah, that's something I was considering as well.
A question that this raised: can you be an 'Empire Elder' if you haven't known IcecreamCow? I think the answer is 'Yes'. Because I feel like an elder, while I haven't known JustinGuy. But it is hard to imagine 'elders' not knowing IcecreamCow.

I suppose you mean on the forums and in-game together? Still, that seems like a lot. That's 2 hours a day. In-game I actually probably have played for less than 100 hours in total. ;)

  12. You can check your actual playing [ESC]-->Statistics. The time displayed is per smp, so to know total time, you have to add up all times of all smps

really, id say 3 or 4 years. elders have seen plenty, and i think that’s pretty good for seeing and going through lots.

  14. Nah, that's only since 1.7, and I've played on EMC mostly before 1.7.

  18. The very moment when your skin starts showing signs of a grey beard (for men) or when your hair suddenly starts turning gray (for women). That's usually a good sign that you're becoming an elder :D

As to the Empire: you're as old (or young) as you feel I think. I mean... I've been playing a few years on the Empire and to be perfectly honest I still don't really consider myself to be anything in the likes of a veteran or "Elite" or whatever the new hip name is.

I'd rather go with "well known" to be honest. It's always cool if you hop onto another SMP and a few people recognize and greet you. And that is something which can happen to anyone, even if you've only been playing for 4 or 6 months or so.
