  2. Just saw this in the thread. Laughing so hard cause it's true.

  3. Lol, what a mess.

Northern Ireland's Assembly is in crisis. Brexit can't be triggered until it's resolved, which is going to take many more months.

Don't think the government's gonna hit that March 2017 target, to be honest.

  4. Like Shel said earlier, thanks for expressing your opinions! I'll keep reading and shaking or nodding my head to the comments I see fit :D

  5. A leak about her upcoming (first) Brexit speech has surfaced announcing that Theresa May is going to pull the UK out of the single market, as well as the EU, if we have to keep freedom of movement. This is suicide. She's acting like the UK is important and everyone is going to line up for trade deals with us and the EU is going to bend to our will - the only reason we've been able to do this in the past is because of the European Union. They don't need us - in fact, us leaving actually helps them, and we won't succeed without co-operation with them.

She's also acting like everyone in the country wants this. I'd bet a lot of people who voted leave don't want it, and I'm betting nobody who voted remain wants this either.

She's going to murder this country with her stupidity.

    Nice knowing y'all lol

  6. I could probably cry right now.

I'd call Theresa May's stupid little speech disappointing and angering, but that would mean I had expectations to begin with in the first place.

Not gonna lie though, this really does make me angry. If somebody could line Theresa May, Philip Hammond, Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and David Cameron up in a row so I can curbstomp their dumbass right-wing faces, I think that would at least let the anger subside a tiny bit.

The worst thing about this is that nobody voted on a single market leave vote and we were told we'd be staying in it.

    UGH.

Well done to everyone who voted to screw this country over. You've done a very good job of it and I don't see the UK existing at the end of it, you fantastic idiots :)
  7. Also lmao

And I quite like this one:
  8. Switzerland just told us no to a 'Post-Brexit alliance'. Which is something the leave politicians have been counting on.

    Lol.

  10. Aye.
  11. Aaaand Article 50 has now been passed through the Commons. 498 in favour, 114 against. Let's remember who voted in favour for... future reference.

Only the House of Lords can stop it now... not happening.

Sad to see our Members of Parliament have voted for Scotland to leave the United Kingdom.

    'tis a sad day.

    :(
  12. Scotland is getting a second independence referendum.

    The United Kingdom is dead.
  13. Moving to Germany. Anyone coming?
  14. Gladly :D

  16. For the first time in my life, I feel so very out of control of my own future. And I also feel like I'm losing a significant part of my identity.

I'm very likely going to lose my European citizenship if the UK denies the EU's request to grant it to British citizens who want it (they likely will do this to stop the mass exodus of educated people). That's all I really want at the end of this, but I don't think I'm going to get it.

Second of all, I quite like the idea of a British national identity. English nationalism has gone very right-wing and extreme (it actually gave us Brexit in the first place) in recent years, so that did enough to destroy it. Scottish nationalism kinda died down after their independence referendum two years ago, but their choice to stay solely hinged on European Union membership. Northern Ireland... I dunno what the Hell is going to happen there. That country is a mess anyway, and Brexit only adds to it.

What the UK is getting out of this:
    • A huge loss of funding for just about everything due to missing EU subsidies that the government has already said it probably won't replace.
    • A £50 billion leaving fee.
    • A completely crashed economy - AKA a recession.
    • Loss of access to the European single market.
    • Wouldn't surprise me if the Irish Republican Army became active again because we messed up Northern Ireland again.
    • Probably going to lose Gibraltar.
    • Probably going to have Scotland secede from the UK, thus rendering the UK non-existent.
    • Increased racism and xenophobia.
    • INCREASED RIGHT-WING NATIONALISM - WOOHOO.
Why anyone voted for this, I have no clue.

  17. On 23 June last year, the people of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. As I have said before, that decision was no rejection of the values we share as fellow Europeans. Nor was it an attempt to do harm to the European Union or any of the remaining member states. On the contrary, the United Kingdom wants the European Union to succeed and prosper. Instead, the referendum was a vote to restore, as we see it, our national self-determination. We are leaving the European Union, but we are not leaving Europe - and we want to remain committed partners and allies to our friends across the continent.

The task before us is momentous but it should not be beyond us. After all, the institutions and the leaders of the European Union have succeeded in bringing together a continent blighted by war into a union of peaceful nations, and supported the transition of dictatorships to democracy. Together, I know we are capable of reaching an agreement about the UK's rights and obligations as a departing member state, while establishing a deep and special partnership that contributes towards the prosperity, security and global power of our continent.

That's not exactly bridge-burning. More like: "We're not breaking up. I just need some space.". Hmm... If they start saying: "It's not you. It's me.", maybe you should worry more.

Also, I might be wrong and she wasn't referencing only us, but this started my American ears burning: "there are signs that protectionist instincts are on the rise in many parts of the world".
