[FEEDBACK] New Tutorial Quiz Questions

  1. This is one of the better arguments in my opinion with regards of people running out into the Frontier. However, I do want to note that mining in the Frontier isn't forbidden per definition, but even despite that I think you make an excellent point here.

Anyway, I felt like putting a little more attention to this one :)

  2. That sounds hard. An arrow will indicate potentially a location, and a sign could say something, if players read it. Without specifics, I would say that books may be one of the best ways to let players read instructions, followed by chat messages, chest APIs, giant text appearing, and floating text names. For the quests, having each quest link to a book that opens with detailed instructions might be a way to go.

I submitted some quiz questions. Is the tutorial quiz going to be random or the same for everyone?
  3. We have a system design in place. Thank you for your question submissions. The quiz will be the same for everyone to facilitate the staff help when needed.

  4. If it's possible, it would be cool to see an NPC that guides players through the tutorial. :)

  5. When I was brand new that's precisely what I did. It happens, albeit, rarely. Edit: Well perhaps not all that rarely with how often my near-spawn structures in the frontier get griefed. 9/10 times the mod tells me it was a very new player.
    • What should new players know BEFORE starting vs what can they learn while in the process of playing?
They should know that shen they first join that the the town res they are assigned is theirs to start off. From prior talks I've see a lot that don't realize the land they are standing on in town is theirs and that they can give up that plot and get another on and smp.
  6. i know this isn't about suggestions but need 2 share.

yesterday a new player on SMP4 got to the huge globe (under the black glass floor) and he was stuck b/c he didnt know how to get out. i thought he was real stuck so grabbed enderpearls and went to him. the sign above the teleport sign only said 'teleport out', not that ppl should right click teleport sign. so he didnt know what 2 do and thought he was stuck.

so i think u should make sure that teleport signs in tutorial also tell new ppl how to use them (right click).

new player was happy b/c i gave him the stack of enderpearls anyway ^.^
  7. This makes me wonder if there should be 2 distinct zones:

    1. An area for the required tutorial and agreement to terms of use for Empire.

    2. An optional area that can be accessed at the end that has another walkthrough with NPCs and signs to learn how to do a few thinks that are unique to Empire. This more advanced tutorial section could be accessed anytime and leaving in the middle would be ok. Possibly with a central point where you could go to teleports that have different categories or concepts to learn from. You would then go back to the center at the end of each tutorial chapter.
  8. I love that EMC has a interactive tutorial in the first place, where you have to actually pay attention and answer questions. Other servers just have their rules written out someplace, and new players often don't even notice or care.

  9. +1 on this idea

I also agree on a "special" tutorial for unique EMC things. I think that it would help new and old players. I find myself always questioning certain commands. This would almost act as quick refresher or even a handbook for EMC commands!

  10. Cause no one has commented on this thread in two day I'm receiving the red message that it would be rude to bump this old thread. Lol

Anyways my suggestion for the New Tutorial isn't a question that needs answered but rather an event within.

Allow the new player to test out the custom mobs within a wasteland like arena. Have a chest for the player to get a wooden sword to go after the custom mob of there choice. Depending on what tp they step on they'll be able to tp to the mob of there choice.

Just something fun and exciting to catch their eyes.

Maybe getting them amped up to find one of these custom mobs after the tutorial. Thus they might stick around long enough to work out the kinks and find their little slice of heaven within EMC.

  12. Whoops, lol. I was looking at the 31 and not the Jul that came before it.

Time has no meaning when you're at the lake. Like I am right now, this very moment. Even now when you read this. I'm still there without a care for the time of day.
  13. The old message must have been posted before 12AM EMC time, it says 1st of August on my screen
  14. i dont have any cool questions 2 suggest but i do wanna say that i think new ppl need 2 be warned about item value somehow.

would u consider this fair: 1 iron horse armor + 10xp bottles given 4 a starter chest + starter boots? i think its close to a scam and i saw this happen on smp4 2day.

so i think something needs 2 be mentioned about item value and that ppl should not so easily trade their stuff.

  15. Not considered fair, using my brain I would say that prices up at anywhere between 500-2k r
Starter stuff goes for more than that gotta say :p
Back to your point, I agree something could be put in there to help new players to understand the economy and not to just straight up accept any trades from people (because there are those few nasty people out there who only want to better themselves by scamming the new people out of their cool starter stuff ).

  16. Good idea. Maybe since this your brainchild. You should submit some questions and answers involving player to player trades.
Questions like if player A traded player B this for that would that be a fair trade.

Or simply questions or not questions but facts.

Yes Tutorial facts that must be seen like questions before moving on through.
Facts like what soul bound armor and weapons are worth. Just a broad range and what kinda fair trades look like.
  17. Honestly the tutorial should be optinal, lots of players leave as soon as they join just beacause of the tutorial and them being too lazy to go through it. Also, maybe the players should be able to use /msg and chat in the tutorial, would make it easy to tell them welcome as soon as they are here.
  18. I doubt that will be happening. The tutorial is there for all players to go through so that they can see how to play on EMC and to see what they should/shouldn't be doing. If a player is genuinely interested in playing then they will carry on through the tutorial. Both you and everyone else currently active, and myself included, all did the tutorial and we're here :) If they are too lazy to do it then they'll either leave or constantly ask questions which easily would have been answered in the tutorial anyway!

  19. If players don't don't do the tutorial then they could think that greifing would be allowed, and other things which could get them banned
