Still Really Confused...

  1. As of now my friend and I just have a house and some stuff to keep us going but I still have no idea what this whole "Empire" and "Residence" stuff is.

Is Frontier the same as Empire? Or is Frontier just a part of the plugin "Empire"?

I made a post trying to claim my area: https://empireminecraft.com/threads/claim-republic-of-lundra.66774/#post-1212957 so I think that means I'll have a town-like area where I live? And I'll be able to make a teleport there so I can go back and forth from shops to my base?

If I won't be able to make a teleport, am I really expected to run ALL the way to spawn/shops and then run ALL the way back to my home. Or alternatively run ALL the way to spawn/shops then put my stuff in an ender chest and die to respawn at my bed spawn. Even with that alternative I really don't want to take the hours it will take to run there, just for some items.

I really enjoy what the server has to offer in terms of originality and population size, but everything is just really confusing at the moment. I'm sure I forgot a whole lot of other questions that I have and if I think of them I'll edit this page to ask those questions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
  2. So lets start with the Residence.

A Residence is a 60X60 Plot that you own that is located in /town. You can get to your residence by /home. Your residence is a place where you can build and no one else can. You can give people flags with the command /res cpset [player name]. Note if you give a player flags and you just want it to be temporary you would open /res cpset [player name].

    The frontier
it is a place where you can create outposts and farms essentially. They aren't supposed to be used for mining and what not. In order to create an outpost you must be atlas 5000 blocks away from the outpost you spawned in and you must be 3000 blocks away from another established outpost. Also you cannot create teleports from this outpost back into town. You must either walk it or nether rail it =P (The old fashioned ways)

    The Wasteland
This is the place where you can go mining for materials such as sand dirt stone cobblestone diamonds iron coal ect...
This is the main place for mining and collecting resources. You do not want to build any magnificent builds here because they get reset every so often.

Hope this helps Pm me about anymore questions you might have
  3. No you won't be able to teleport from town to your base and vice versa. This is to keep the vanilla like aspect of EMC intact. If you were able to teleport back and forth then there would be no difference between wild and town and everyone would live in the wild. I've been doing this method for years without complaint so it's not that big of a deal honestly.
  4. its also why many ppl play in the frontier on other server. i have my home on /smp4 but i play in frontier with a friend on /smp9. so if i want 2 play survival i just do /smp9 and i can play. when i want 2 go back home again: /smp4.

u dont get 2 take your stuff home this way but it really helps me.

  5. Heya Sups! There are lots of different styles of game play on EMC. Some people live entirely in TOWN (which is where your residence is - you can get there by typing /home while in town). Some people live in town and go out into the FRONTIER (permanent area for creating large builds) and WASTELANDS (subject to resetting, not permanent, for collecting materials) to collect materials - here is where you are most likely referring to as your "home" - some players prefer to actually live out here exclusively and only come into town occasionally.I highly recommend going through the /tutorial again and read up on the wiki for more thorough answers to your questions.

If you establish a base in the Frontier, yes, you will have to "run" back and forth from there to town. Most players who have a base out in the frontier have nether rails which take them to their area A LOT quicker than by simply walking. The only issue with building rails, is it takes a little bit of time to gather / buy the materials. So spending at least some time in town may be a good safe starting point.

EMPIRES is a future expansion to the server, where you will most likely be able to teleport from town to your base (outpost) yes. Nothing at this point is set in stone however. Think of Empires as a more elaborate system of gathering your own personal group of friends to complete tasks together.

    Hope this helps,

    -ET
  6. @CallMeSups
To clarify a bit on Equable's post, the "Frontier" isn't intended for heavy strip-mining - the kind of resource gathering that typically goes on when building large structures in Town, or replenishing shop stock. Mining out materials to build your base is perfectly acceptable, and expected. The "Wasteland" is where you go to strip-mine a desert for sandstone, or flatten a mesa for clay.
  7. Okay so we're on smp3 and we aren't in a town. Does that mean we're in the Frontier? If we are in the Frontier, then where do we find a town? Are towns player build or pre-built from the server? Do I just have to find the closest town to me to use shops, etc. ?

Also, if I do /waste to get to the wastelands, how would I get back to my home?

To AyanamiKun: So you use different smps for different things? For example smp1 for town, smp2 for Frontier? Almost like each smp is a different save file?

If I have 10diamonds in smp1 and I go to smp2, will I still have those diamonds or is it new for each smp?

Thanks so much for the help, every one!

  8. How do I create an outpost? Is that what I attempted when I made that '[Claim]' thread? I prefer living in the frontier rather than a town, so I'm glad I'm where I'm at now.
  9. Your claim post is to make an outpost.
  10. When will it become an outpost officially?
  11. Soon. A staff member will reply to the thread telling you if it has been approved or how to fix it.

  12. You could. From town, you can always go to the wastelands or the frontier. From the frontier or the wastelands however, you can only go back to town when you're on a spawn area. (where you start when you go there, you can easily find them on the live map or using a compass, I believe)
But if you want to go really far into the frontier, it's often inconvenient to get back to town, as you'll have to travel all the way back to a spawn area. So many people go into the frontier on some smp's and stay in town on others.

XP is shared between servers, inventory is not. However, you can transfer the diamonds by using /vault. /vault costs 10 rupees each time you use it, after which you can use it freely for 5 minutes (if I recall correctly).
You can access /vault from any server so this way you can easily get items anywhere. You can't access /vault while in the frontier or wastelands though, so this is another reason to stay in town on some smp's.
By default you'll have one vault page, which is essentially one double chest. You can however get another one for 10k (max is 2 for non-supporters) or get more by using vault vouchers, available from player shops or voting (from voting, I got more vault vouchers than I'll ever use!).

  13. You should try /map from in game and click on the different type of servers listed to the right to help you get your bearings. There should be Town, Frontier Nether, Frontier, Wastelands Nether, and Wastelands with both top view, and an isometric view to actually help see 3D depth to terrain and structures. Also here on the EMC website you can hover over the major link community to bring up a drop-down menu that has "Servers" listed in it. Go to Servers and then select which SMP or Utopia you would like to see a map of.

Here is a link to the servers map list :

    https://empireminecraft.com/servers/

As for living in the wild, I have actually trekked out beyond 100k myself, and am content to survive off the materials I find there or produce via replanting / harvesting from stone / cobble gen. I do have an alternate account which I use for town access to check on my residences and help others out that are in town, the waste, or in closer proximity in the frontier. vs. a 100k trek. Also, be mindful that you cannot check your mail while out in the frontier. I usually switch over to my Utopian residence to collect my mail and store stuff I have received on my main character there. This leads me to voting. I would recommend voting for the empire as you can get great rewards which include armor, tools, weapons, vouchers, diamonds, and emeralds. Also you will receive a stipend of rupees and tokens for each vote. Check these links out for more on Voting :

    https://empireminecraft.com/wiki/vote/

    https://empireminecraft.com/wiki/voting-information-bonuses/

As for your last inquiry, a member of staff will have to verify that your outpost claim is not overlapping one of the other existing outposts. Also be sure to put a locked chest down when you are ready to claim. Staff use a locked chest for the center point of your outpost. More info on the outpost process can be found here :

    https://empireminecraft.com/threads/how-to-establishing-your-outpost.46390/

Good luck on your Empire journey, I hope you can tell the community is very helpful and will do what we can to help you out :)

  14. So how to the different smps correlate with each other? Like what's the purpose of having one in a town and one in the frontier? How does that benefit you if you can't share inventories between the different smps?

Edit: If I do get the Outpost claim, will I be able to set a home there?

    Thanks for being so informative!

  15. Did you read my post? :)
You can transfer stuff between smp's.
And the purpose of being in town on one and in the frontier is another is that some people like being in the frontier, but they don't like spending hours walking back and forth. So they stay in the frontier on that server and use another server if they want to be in town or the wastelands.
  16. "XP is shared between servers, inventory is not. However, you can transfer the diamonds by using /vault. /vault costs 10 rupees each time you use it, after which you can use it freely for 5 minutes (if I recall correctly).

How do I transfer my stuff from my frontier smp to my town smp and vise versa? The reason I want to do this is to go to shops to buy and sell things so I can progress my frontier without having to run all the way to a town the run all the way back to my frontier home. If I can't access the vault in the frontier, then I technically can't transfer things between my town smp and my frontier smp.
  17. Please use the "Reply" button for quoting posts.
No, you can't access your vault in town.
But you can transfer items between smp's. Technically, you can.
It might not fit in your preferred way of playing, but it does in the ways of most people.
  18. I did use the reply button, I didn't use it in the last quote because I wanted to highlight parts.
  19. You ask : "How does that benefit you if you can't share inventories between the different smps?"

Like 607 is pointing out, I can transfer the mail I get in Utopia to SMP2 when I return to town on smp2. What I usually do though is put the stuff in a chest in my Utopian residence, then use my alt to take it out and make use of the stuff in town on SMP2 when he returns there via a /vault transfer. I do this because I prefer to stay on SMP2 with my town and frontier activities. Also, by having an ALT in town, I can attend events that other players hold, can build on my town residences if that is the mood I am in, and ultimately I have a character with which to help other people that is in close proximity to them vs that long trek. Currently, I am working on building the Tempered Outpost Headquarters on 9 residences in SMP2 town, and working on Tempered Outpost infrastructure ( Roads ) in the wild.

If push comes to shove, I will kill myself in the wild like a did a few weeks ago, and return to town ( I was claiming some more residences next to my castle) and then walk / run / ride / row my way back to my outpost in the wild which took a few weekends as my time during the week is limited. Along the way, I was able to check on the various checkpoints and safe houses I have built along the way out to the outpost, so that made the trip worthwhile. Even though I have not laid claim to those places, I still like to keep them in good shape.

Yes, it is not instant, and that may be hard to comprehend in this microwave society, but it also rings true in the builds found in the wild that the creator really invested his / her time to create. Because I know how difficult it is, I look at what you build out there with a different kind of respect, than I would if it were : buy at shop, teleport, build, teleport, buy at shop. Don't get me wrong, I do look forward to the update in which a teleport to our outpost may become a reality, but even then, to have become independent of shop purchases will only make your build less costly. You can truly place value on the purchase of an item and it's real worth. Sometimes in a pinch, and your just too tired to harvest materials it can be a good compromise, but even then let it be a compromise and not your only thought process to purchase at a shop.

If you do indeed must shop, then be sure to check out my daughter's shop at /v +HSP . She tries to keep most things in stock and at a fair price. Two other great shops on SMP2 would be /v +Poof, and /v +SSRC, they both have a good selection at reasonable rates.

If you ever get tired of SMP3, try taking it down a notch and coming to the server the Admins live in : SMP2 :)

  20. true! if u want 2 transfer ur items you will always need 2 head back 2 an outpost. if ur on an outpost u can use commands again like /town, /vault and stuff like that.

when we started playing in frontier we made sure 2 bring stuff with us and find a spot which had some resources. so i dont transfer stuff but simply leave it all in the frontier.

i think this is also why frontier is better if ur more familiar with emc. if u concentrate on waste 4 now then you can get used to it and also mine 2 get lots of good stuff! then when you collected enough stuff u could use that in frontier 2 get started with a cool build in wilderness.
