ISSUE: java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

Discussion in 'Empire Help & Support' started by Drenzler78, Jan 16, 2017.

  1. Anyone know what the deal is with this?
Is it a java update issue or an issue with the version of java I have?
    Is it something else entirely?
    Didn't start until I updated to 1.11.2
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  2. Not from mind because you don't give us much to work with here. Does it say anything else in your logfiles?

But a common cause can indeed be Java. I've seen too many weird hiccups surface on the Minecraft fora (and experienced dozens myself) that I've grown to learn that Minecraft can be extremely picky. Small unrelated comment: I've seen Minecraft refusing to start the launcher! And merely because I cleaned up my versions folder (where it keeps all the downloaded Minecraft versions itself).

The first where I'd start looking is to ensure that your Java version is up to date. You can grab the latest runtime here. Warning: be sure to look out for all the extra stuff it wants to install. It might be better not to. Current version is Java 1.8.0_112 ("Java 8u112").

However... If this doesn't work then I suggest doing something a little more drastic: re-install Minecraft. Go to Minecraft.net, click the menu and select download and grab the version you need (Windows or Mac).

This will not overwrite your save files or such, but theoretically it could reset your profiles (didn't last time I used this).

Reason: Minecraft ships its own Java runtime. Not always the most efficient version to use, but using this for now will at least rule out any problems which could be caused by Java itself. For the simple reason that I know that this 'shipped version' might be quite dated, it works. And also easily allows you to play on the Empire with the latest MC version.

Hope this can give you some pointers.

  3. I see what you did there. It seems to be a client crash. Most likely wrong communication between client and server. You can always to be safe, delete minecraft and reinstall. If not you can always download the Minecraft.jar file which is loaded as binary and is cross platform. Last time I had this was a client issue. The fix was a reinstallment. Especially if it happens too often.
  4. Ok I updated my Java. Will see if that fixes it. If not do I just copy the entire log file that is the most current in here? Last time I looked at one of those they were pretty long.

Thanks for the assist and the info.

    Update:

So I have reloaded java and I also did a full reinstall of Minecraft when I updated to 1.11.2.
For some reason forge didn't want to play right.
Anyways, my game did this again. I am running two accounts on the same PC, would that matter?
Also should I copy and past the log info into here to is that way too much info to put in here?
    Equinox_Boss likes this.
  5. You should definitely put the log in a spoiler if you do post it here, but if it's too long you could share it from a site like pastebin.
    Equinox_Boss likes this.
  6. Depending on the length of the log, you can use www.pastebin.com for shorter logs, and paste.ubuntu.com for longer logs.
    Equinox_Boss likes this.
  7. so you are playing with mods? if so try again with minecraft vanilla.
    Equinox_Boss and ShelLuser like this.
  8. Ok would it be better to just copy the log from the point it shows the kick message? That is a great deal shorter.
    How do you snip something?
So I have this game loaded on 2 different PCs and it seems to only have this issue on one of them, then again when I use the second one I am generally afkin and not playing very actively. Could that have anything to do with it? I have also double checked to make sure that the same versions of everything it loaded on both and they are. I might just try a reinstall again, but before I go through all that I wanted to make sure it wasn't something else.
All of your advice and help has been greatly appreciated.

  12. Ok so I had to break this up into three different things, but that is what the log shows before the kick and right after it prior to me reconnecting.
Any clue what all that means?

  13. Possibly unrelated question, but which version #### of Forge are you using?
    Equinox_Boss and ShelLuser like this.
  14. From first glance it looks to me as if you timed out and Forge went berserk. Keep in mind that Forge 1.11.2 is beta (as is shown above the title screen) so weird stuff can definitely happen.

Beginning this week Aya & me were on my private server goofing. Every time I threw a splash potion for the 3rd or 4th time both our clients would crash. Forge 1.11 is, at this time, highly unstable. I managed to fix this in the mean time by changing my particle settings from "decreased" to "full".

Of course nothing happened when playing vanilla...

Anyway, right now I'm not very concentrated ( :D ) but I'll go over the stack trace tomorrow to see if I can find something more.

  15. I am using Forge ver. 1.11.2-13.20.0.2214
    Equinox_Boss likes this.
  16. So here's my advice... First download & try the latest Forge. You're on 2214, the current version is 2223, this could make a difference. Like I said: this is all beta and snapshot code, so anything could happen.

Second: if this crash does happen again could you upload your latest.log (not all of it, but the last section with the crash) to pastebin? See here: http://pastebin.com/ This makes it much easier for us to go over the stacktrace, because the formatting won't be so off (the formatting made it really difficult to check).

Finally: what mods do you use, can you give us a list? Maybe it's a mod which is acting up.

The reason why I started thinking in this direction is this tidbit:

It doesn't have to mean anything (I've had issues that the server thought I was still connected to another SMP, even though I was on vanilla) but the error did strike me as odd. Especially in combination with the several mentionings of you being away and back and away again.

But for now I'd start by upgrading Forge to see what happens.
    Equinox_Boss and 607 like this.
  17. I don't think it was mentioned but I would look for issues with your router and internet connection. Having horrible internet connection myself, I've seen the remote host thing a lot whether I'm running forge or not AND with updated java.

  20. thank you all for the information.
I have been looking around the net and it seems that this is a pretty common issue with forge.
Like you said forge is still in beta so I guess I am kind of stuck.
I noticed it only happens if I am afk too long because if I am playing I am active then I have no issues.

the mods I am using are:
Inventory Tweaks (which is having its own issues right now)
    Voxel Map
    OptiFine
    Dokucraft for my textures
    in game info XML
    Forge
    and liteloader

Funny thing is I have two pcs so sometimes I will use that one and I never get the issues, but both PCs use the same router so I am not certain how it could be the router.
Anyways, if it happens again while I am afk I will use the postbin to upload the logs.

Thanks again for all the info and advice.
